First off, thank you very much for this eARC that was generously provided by the publisher and author via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is exactly what I thought it was going to be. I predicted the motive, but I didn’t predict the twists at the end. It was pretty fast moving, suspenseful, and a good mystery. But like I said, it was exactly what I thought it was going to be and a little predictable. So while it was a good book, it was a bit too cliche for me. I liked it, but I didn’t love it. Nothing stood out compared to many other books like it and the ending was a bit disappointing.

The Therapist

Read and Reviewed: June 2025
Publication Date: July 2025

⭐️⭐️⭐️.💫

The Therapist is the latest psychological thriller by the wonderful Nicole Trope due to be published next month, July 2025.
In typical Nicole style - she didnt disappoint with this latest one and it was everything I expected it to be.

Thanks so much to the author Nicole and the publishers for an advanced readers copy of this one in exchange for my honest review.

This one is packed full of tension and suspense and I flew through it in one sitting.

This is defo one of those thriller reads where nothing is ever as it seems and it will keep you guessing and wondering who to trust for the entirety.

This was a fast paced one, with short grippy chapters and characters full of secrets, deceit and lies - with a twist or two thrown in for good measure - I was kept guessing everyones motives from the start until near the very end when the final twist was revealed.

The story focuses on a Therapist (a setting one would typically associate with safety and trust) Lana, who reluctantly takes on a new patient, Sandy when her therapist colleague Ben comes to her and tells her he can no longer treat her.

From the very first session with Sandy, Lana questioned what was true and what was fabricated or a lie and it stayed the same pretty much throughout. This one was full of twists and turns guys. I was immersed in the therapist/patient drama even if it felt a tad far fetched or unbelivable at times.

The character development was brilliantly done but I didnt particularly like any of the characters LOL!

While it isnt my favourite of hers - Trope kept up the suspense for the entirety of the book. The story is told from multiple POV's - (which I always love in a thriller) Lana - the therapist, Sandy - the patient and Mike - Sandys husband.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one.
It was a gripping domestic thriller - defo add this one to your TBR if your looking for a drama filled thriller.

The twist at the end...I didnt see coming AT ALL!

A good solid read in this genre
3.5 stars from me!

As always, Nicole Trope created a highly entertaining popcorn thriller that I devoured in one sitting. With an easy-to-read writing style, this was the perfect read for a break where your brain doesn't want to concentrate too hard, but you still crave that fictional world. I wanted to like the protagonist so bad in this one, but something about her just irked me. However, that didn't take away from the story whatsoever. It made it more intriguing to see who would go down in the end. The only complaint I have is that this is one of those stories where I felt like the last twist or so was unnecessary and excessive. That being said, there still has yet to be a book by this author that I haven't liked. If you're looking for a light, entertaining story, pick any one of these author's books, and you won't regret it. Three and a half stars.

Thank you, Netgalley and Bookouture, for this ARC.

Wow! Love unreliable narrators? Then this is for you! I never knew what to believe or what was going on. This kept me guessing so much between the wife, husband, and 2 therapists. What a crazy ride! I love this author and this was another big hit!

Nicole Trope has once again dished up a chillingly devious psychological thriller. This edge of your seat drama will have you flipping quickly through the pages to the masterful conclusion. Intricately woven layers of lies, deception, and twisty darkness get peeled away slowly to reveal the depth to which someone will go to get what they want.

The story centers around a therapy practice where the main character is Lana. Newcomer to the practice is Ben, who has a patient, Sandy, who has developed feelings for him. He persuades Lana to take Sandy as her patient, citing his feelings for her are becoming unprofessional. Lana reluctantly agrees and gets snatched into Sandy's tale of woe about being an abused spouse. But then Sandy disappears, and the real games begin!

This is a dark and twisty tale that captured me right away. It's told through multiple perspectives, giving the reader insight into each character. All the characters are unreliable, which only adds to the tension. Another jewel by Nicole Trope!

⚠️ The Therapist,

Written By

Nicole Trope;

My Book Review‼️ ⚠️

Blurb;
Everyone thinks they can trust their therapist. We are good listeners. But what if we’re good liars, too?

The therapist: I love my job. People tell me their worries, their fears. Then Sandy becomes my patient. Something about her tears as she cries about her husband doesn’t feel right. But I tell her she can trust me. I promise to keep her secrets… for now.

The patient: I never should have married Mike. My head is a mess. All I want is for someone to listen. At least I can trust my therapist – she believes everything I say. And I’m going to show the world exactly what my dear husband is really like.

The husband: We used to be so happy. I just want my smiling, beautiful wife back. I was glad when Sandy signed up for therapy. But one day, Sandy doesn’t come home. I’m frantic. Then her therapist knocks on the door and says we need to talk… what has Sandy told her about our marriage?

Someone is missing. Someone is in danger. Someone is a liar. Who will you believe?

A completely unputdownable psychological thriller that will leave you not knowing who to believe, from million-copy bestselling Nicole Trope. Anyone who loves Shari Lapena or Lisa Jewell will be totally addicted!

My Review;

I really enjoyed reading this book, & it drew me in from the very beginning. I liked the twists; never quite knowing where it was heading, nor whom to believe?!

I thought it came together well towards the end, & it was an easy read, with a good pace throughout, & well thought through, & cleverly written.

Out of a rating between 1-10, where 10 is the highest, I would give this book a rating of 8. It was a good, enjoyable, read, & I would deffo recommend.

This book will be available to purchase & download on 31st July! = So, COMING SOON!

This was an overall okay read told from three distinct points of view: a husband, a wife, and the wife's therapist.

We get some background on each of them, with the therapist character standing out as particularly naive and seemingly struggling with low self-esteem, which played into the dynamics of the sessions and past trauma.

The core of the story, however, follows the manipulative wife. It was a bit odd how the author continually emphasized others immense beauty or the lack of in other characters. The narrative subtly presents three different ways you can view the truth about why she's seeking therapy. The truth, the husband's truth and the wife's.

Another thing that didn't quite land for me was the author's tendency to tell you things happened versus truly showing them. This felt especially true in the ending scene, which felt rushed as we were just told about conversations that happened behind the scenes.

Ultimately, the plot was very straightforward and, for me, a bit predictable. It delivered what it promised without many surprises, making it a okay read.

Thank you netGallery for the arc!

I did not enjoy this book as much as I hoped I would. I typically love a therapist trope for a thriller, but the pacing was too slow for me. I felt frustrated by the all of the characters throughout the entire book. There were unresolved/unnecessary details that acted like it would help build the characters but ultimately fell flat. For example, I don't understand why it was necessary to make Lana and Sandy old high school classmates as it didn't do anything for the plot. I would have preferred their past be fully fleshed out, or just not mentioned at all.

The Therapist by Nicole Trope delves into the complex nature of the unique relationship between a therapist and patient, and the delicate balance of trust that exists in this vulnerable and very intimate dance.

Lana is a therapist who agrees to take on a new patient, Sandy, who claims that she is being abused by her husband, Mike. When Sandy fails to turn up for one of her sessions, Lana questions her husband who, of course, tells a very different story about the dynamics of their marriage. Who is telling the truth?

I always enjoy Ms Trope's writing, and here she has once again crafted a dark and twisty tale that is fuelled by a multi-dimensional cast of psychologically complex characters.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.

So another twisted read from this author whose books I devour in one sitting. The book starts with a shooting but we don’t know who what or why and then we meet Lana a therapist who reluctantly takes on one of her colleagues patient a young woman called Sandy who is in a toxic relationship and needs help. The only problem is Lana is sure there is something off about her and when her husband comes to a session as well she starts to question if she can trust her own judgement and when her client goes missing is she getting in too deep. This is a really dark read which will keep you guessing till the very end and totally surprised me. Love it!!! Please make this into a TV drama soon.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for sending this my way. All opinions expressed are my own.
The Therapist is an upcoming psychological thriller set to release in July 2025. It follows the interwoven unreliable narratives of a patient and therapist as they try and out the truth. I love Nicole Trope usually, but this one was unfortunately doing nothing for me. I found the writing style jarring and chapters too long. Maybe attributed to my personal circumstances, but I skimmed most of it, as I was not compelled to finished. A very disappointing read, but hopefully an outlier to her other fantastic works.

Loved, loved and more loved!!!!! This is what a true psychological thriller should be like. Where do I even begin????? Let me start off by saying WOW!!!!! It’s been a while since I read this author and I’m super upset with myself over it. This book reminded me of how great she is and that I need to catch up. Thankfully, I’ve only missed two so far but that is way more than I should have. Now on to characters. I didn’t know who or even what to trust. Each one of them was very unreliable. One chapter I would believe one character then the next chapter I wouldn’t believe that same character. That is what made this book for me. Next up is plot. When I first read the blurb I just knew I had to find out more. It piqued my interest and I just know it will peak yours. Now let’s talk about that twisted ending. It was like a roller coaster ride I never wanted to get off from. It was up and down until the very end. It all came full circle and left me totally shocked. I was like OMG!!!!! I can’t wait to read more by this author. I will definitely be catching up soon with all her books.

Nicole Trope’s The Therapist is more than a psychological thriller—it’s a delicate dance along the fine line between perception and reality, where the distinction between healer and harmed begins to blur until a fall feels inevitable. With razor-sharp precision, Trope explores the hidden currents of suburban unease and mental vulnerability, crafting a story that compels readers to question not only what they’re being told, but also who is telling the story—and why.

At the heart of the novel lies a therapist’s practice—a place normally linked to comfort and trust. But in Trope’s hands, that trust begins to fray, subtly at first, like a thread loosening from a sweater, until the entire structure unravels. She masterfully builds tension through quiet, almost imperceptible details: a door clicking shut, a pause before an answer, the flicker of doubt in a glance. These small moments create a creeping dread. Rather than relying on shock or gore, Trope delves into the kind of fear that lives in silence—the kind we ignore until it’s too late.

The characters resist simple labels. They’re complex, conflicted, and often unreliable—haunted by private pain and tangled motivations. One of the novel’s greatest strengths is how Trope toys with our empathy, drawing us close to these characters only to jolt us with unexpected truths. It’s a psychological hall of mirrors, where roles of victim and perpetrator continually shift in unsettling ways.

Though the book delivers the twists expected of the genre, its real power lies in its emotional intensity. Each chapter tightens the suspense while also revealing more of the characters’ humanity. It’s a thriller that frightens—but it also listens, empathizes, and reflects.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for a honest review.
