This delightful book is perfect for young children who are fascinated by trucks. One of the standout features for me was the driver: a woman, or at least someone portrayed in a gender-neutral way. It's a refreshing departure from the usual gender stereotypes found in children's books.
While the story isn't heavy on plot, that actually works in its favor for very young readers, making it easy to follow and engaging. What surprised me most was how much real-world trucking detail it included. The book touches on everything from rest stops and weigh stations to truck maintenance and challenges like black ice. At the end, there's even a fun and informative guide to trucker slang and a diagram of a truck’s anatomy—great extras for curious kids (and their parents).
If I had one small critique, it’s that the language isn't especially rhyming or lyrical, which some kids (and adults) tend to enjoy in read-alouds. That said, it’s a minor point in an otherwise fantastic and thoughtfully crafted book. A great pick for any truck-loving kid!

My 4 year old loved I Truck! The illustrations were really cute and matched perfectly with the story's personality. I feel like my son actually learned something reading this together.
I removed a star because I felt the cadence was off at times with some words randomly rhyming and some not, making the flow a little wonky.

Very cute book with beautiful illustrations and an actual plot. If you have a child who likes trucks they will love this one!

Boy, do I know so many children who would love this book. My preschool class (3-4 year olds) is obsessed with truck books and I know they'd like this one too. The illustrations were nicely done and it was pretty easy to follow along with, nothing over-complicated.

Another cute and short book my toddler enjoyed. He’s 2.5 and loves trucks. The colors are vivid so that’s a great eye catcher and attention retainer. Super cute!

Thanks so much to NetGalley for the free Kindle book. My review is voluntarily given, and my opinions are my own.
There are so many young kids who are fascinated with trucks, and parents are always looking for grow books and toys for their children. This is a great book all about semi-trucks.
Definitely would recommend!

Great illustrations. Definitely has kid appeal. I thought the vocabulary at the back was useful for parents reading this to children of different ages. I would recommend this book to teachers, parents, and librarians.

Amazing book for any children who love trucks!
This book goes through the trip of a semi-truck through the POV of the truck itself. It talks about everything from safety checks to severe weather warnings, going down mountains to getting to the destination safe and sound and anything in between. Lovely book with bright, colorful art.

Such a cute book for truck lovers! Really nice artwork. I love that it has lots of great information about the life of a truck and driver, and it shows why trucks are so important. I also learned a lot from the facts about semi-trucks in the back of the book. I will definitely buy this one for the truck loving kids that I know! Thanks for the ARC!

This is an excellent example of how to incorporate a lot of informative material for children into one volume; providing them with fun facts and trivia about something that they're likely to come across. The book gives an inside look at the journey of a big rig from beginning to end, describing all of the elements that make up that journey in between. From picking up the merchandise (toys, which is a nice touch) to mapping road conditions, making multiple stops and dealing with unexpected delays, the truck keeps on pushing until the trip is finished. Kelly Schmitt has clearly done her research and demonstrates an investment in the material that's clearly felt. Jong Nam's illustrations are simultaneously simple yet full of detail, with great depictions of movement and the contrast between environments. The full page spreads illustrating the components of the trucks were some of my favorites.
Schmitt's narrative choices help make the book engaging, starting with the title. (I initially read it as a statement à la "I. Claudius" until I realized that's it's an action statement at the end.) The events of the book are told from the perspective of the truck itself, including their reactions to the sensations and environment, including the feelings of the driver. The passage about the truck keeping the driver and her dog warm during a snowstorm while they're sleeping, and how they know how much the driver misses their family, was sweet without veering into the unrealistic. I really enjoyed that the driver here is shown as a Black woman with a family. Not only does this reflect the reality of female truckers in the workforce, it also shows that many truck drivers are providing for family members back home who love and miss them.
The great appeal of the book lies in the way that Schmitt takes care to always highlight the human element behind the business. This is elaborated on in the end notes. As exciting as the trucks themselves are, the author stresses the reality that it is the people who make them run and provide these necessary services. She talks about the difficulty of being on the road for months away at a time and moving heavy equipment to multiple locations, and I think that this is excellently done. It's imperative for young children (everyone, really) to understand the real labor that goes into this work, and to gain a greater appreciation and admiration for what they do.
I liked the interactive nature of the book as well, and the addition of trucker slang and the seek-and-find activity at the back. Young readers will also look at the toys they play with (and other potential deliveries) in a new way while gaining a better understanding of the process that brings things to their proverbial doorsteps. I'm looking forward to reading the other books in the series and will keep my eye out for them at my local branch.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, Millbrook Press (Lerner Publishing Group) for this DRC in exchange for a fair and honest review. The thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.

Great book, My kids loved it and I am sure they will ask me to read it every night for a while. Thanks you netgalley and publisher for the ARC of this book in exchange of mu honnest review

I really enjoyed how this one talked about the safety check, weigh stations, runaway ramp, and weather conditions. Giving an insight to trucking for kiddos who love the big trucks they see on the road.

Thank you to Netgalley for this e- copy of I Truck by Kelly Rice Schmitt in exchange for a honest review. This is a great preschool read for truck loving kiddos. It tells the story from the perspective of the truck and relates how the truck has to overcome weather, and road difficulties to get its load to its destination . I like how the trucker is a woman with a dog which offers a different perspective of the trucking industry. It also has a trucker lingo section and offers a diagram of all the parts of a truck . Great for a bedtime read!

I loved reading this book! It had a lot of info about Truck Driving that I did not know! It was interesting to learn all of this. I think this book will keep kids interested and motivated to learn new things. This book is about what a Trucker does as their job. This would be a great book for parents who are Truckers and want to share with their kids what they do for their job.
The drawings are great and the story is interesting. I think kids specifically will enjoy how the story is told. For example, the sound effects that are written in the story such as when they say the dog goes "How-Woo".
This book is well researched and at the end the book has info about the parts of a truck and what they are used for. It also has a glossery of "Trucker" terms. I think that parents will enjoy this book just as much as their kids. Kids that are into Hot Wheels or the "Cars" Disney movies will also love this book!

My son loved this one! He liked learning about the truck going all the way across the country. He especially loved the illustrations!

What a cute book! I chose this book because my son loves anything trucks! I do agree with the age suggestion (5-9) due to the length.
Written from the truck's point of view, this book details what a cross-country trip entails. This book delivers information about trucking with gorgeous illustrations that I know would keep my son interested. The bright colors and imagery from the words make this a must-read for kiddos who love big trucks!
A bonus for me is that the author, illustrator, and Driver are all women! We love to see inclusivity!!
Thank you so much for the opportunity to read your book - I can't wait for future ones! We will be buying a physical copy!

This is perfect for those kiddos who love construction equiptment and trucks. It is a great way to show the little ones how we get our goods from manufacturer or farm to our home. The colors are vivid, and the drawing is more of a block style, giving it more of a toy look.

I Truck is a cute book that is perfect for any child who loves vehicles! The book follows a truck and its driver during a cross country journey through all of the routine checks and stops, as well as challenges a trucker might face along the way. It is engaging and easy to follow and understand for kids, although it was a little harder to find a good cadence/flow when read aloud. I really enjoyed the information sections provided at the end that provided facts about trucks, trucker lingo, and explanation of truck parts, equipment, and common words. Overall a very cute read.

I downloaded this book because my dream job is to be a cross-country truck driver with my dog as my co-pilot. This book was super cute and I loved all the facts at the end. Seeing it was a female author and illustrator made it even better! I would definitely purchase this for my nephew!

This was a cute little book that I read with my 9-year-old. He enjoyed the story and liked that it was written from the perspective of the truck. Cute story. Would recommend.
