Twelve elves are coming to your house to do their traditional Christmas chores – or so you hope. Not at issue here is whether you've been bad or good, it's whether they finish their tour of Michigan first – there is Motown to honour, the car museum, the ski slopes, a Turnip Rock and Sleeping Bear Dunes. It all looks deliriously festive and wonderful, so the idea here is that we get in the mood but get into bed ready to be asleep when they arrive. This has a very limited audience – it's, er, Michigan, if you hadn't guessed – but for those living or visiting there it's really quite wonderful. If you thought of creating a Christmas book for your local area and your local area alone – this is probably the benchmark. It would be tough to better, in rhyme, colour or vivacity. Four and a half stars.

Perfect for Michiganders! I will definitely be sharing this with the littles in my life. The rhyming was a bit stop-and-go in some places, but I really enjoyed this book. I can't wait for Christmas in MI now! Thank you so much NetGallery for this ARC!

The pictures in this book are sooo cute!!! This is a great Christmas book. It is tailored toward Michigan but still enjoyable for all! The elves are adorable. And kids even learn about different places in Michigan. Thank you to Familius and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

A fun holiday book filled with elf shenanigans all while learning about the the great state of Michigan [yes I am biased. I am allowed. I lived/stayed there from the time I was 12 until I was 18 and love that state so much].

Littles will love this and its very colorful illustrations and depictions of all the cool places Michigan has to offer, and I am sure that it, along with the other elves book, will quickly become family favorites.

Thank you to NetGalley, Trish Madson, Chorkung [Sasiwimon Sunthonwikran] - Illustrator, and Familius for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love reading these series! They are always a fast but fun read. I have not been to Michigan but this story I feel like it captured a lot of its popular destinations. I’m left feeling like I should visit for my next trip. The illustrations are always perfect, I can’t help but think of Rise of the Guardians elves.

I know that kids will love this story! Perfect for anyone who wants to improve their reading.

Thank you to the author, Familius, and NetGalley for this e-ARC.

What an adorable book for the little Michigander in your life! 12 little elves of all shapes and sizes head off on a tour around Michigan landmarks and attractions to see who's asleep on Christmas Eve night. They highlight the state tree and state bird, then visit places you've heard of (like Tahquamenon Falls and the Sleeping Bear Dunes), and places you might not have (Turnip Rock, the fairy doors of Ann Arbor). The attention to accurate detail is lovely, like the penguin exhibit at the Detroit Zoo and the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile at The Henry Ford.

The illustrations are brightly colored and whimsical, and the rhyming structure is sweetly reminiscent of Twas the Night Before Christmas. This cute and festive book would be perfect to read to little ones before bedtime on Christmas Eve!

For starters, I was sorta surprised by this book. For some reason, went in thinking there was going to be some counting since it had 12 elves in the title. As a Michigan Native, I enjoyed seeing that many popular locations were mentioned like Sleeping Bear Dunes and Thunder Bay. It was a quick read so it should keep the kids attention to finish the entire story. Fun festive and quick read!

I really loved the idea of this story. I like how the story is christmas themed in addition to relating to travel. I think the travel aspect of the plot makes the story very appealing and unique. One aspect that really stood out was how the scenes featured a different location in Michigan. With the different locations in the state this would be a very relatable book for kids that live there and may know of these places. For kids who like to travel they may enjoy this book as well because of how it shows different places in a part of the world.

The drawings were very holiday themed and good for the festive season. The car scene was my favorite. I thought that the plot was easy to follow and I think a child would enjoy listening to their family read this book with them. The story flows nicely and is not confusing. I think kids will enjoy the drawings and how colorful they are.

The ending was very cute and I liked that it made the book interactive. The style of the writing is very fun to read which I think will make it appealing to kids. Overall I think it is a very festive story and original. This book will be great for families to read during Christmas.

As a native Michigander, I had to grab this one to check it out - I love when children's books use local points of reference to make things personal in a way to the child who may be reading it. There are a lot of great state locations highlighted in this book - some of them more recognizable than others - but all of them great examples of the variety of what can be found across the state.

The rhyming was well done - the first two pages felt a little choppy, but after that it seemed to flow really well with cadence and rhythm. I could see reading this to my children when they were younger and having natural places to engage and interact with them throughout the story. Overall a fun holiday children's story with a great local tie in.

This was a cute Christmas story. I loved that it was set in Michigan. Some of the landmarks are very well known. There were some that I've never of. I noticed that this is part of a series. I'll definitely check the other books set in other states.

A five minute read with fabulous illustrations. This book will appeal most to people familiar with Michigan and its landmarks. However, it can be also be enjoyed by people like me who do not know much about Michigan's tourist places.

This story was a cute adventure where the elves adventure the state. As a lifelong Michigander, I do wish some of the lesser touristy areas were mentioned, but this is still adorable. I can’t wait to gift this to my nieces this Christmas.

*12 Little Elves Visit Michigan* is a festive, rhyming adventure that follows twelve playful Christmas elves as they journey across the Great Lakes State to check on sleeping children before Santa arrives. Along the way, they explore iconic Michigan landmarks like Sleeping Bear Dunes, the Motown Museum, and Thunder Bay, all dressed in holiday cheer. This whimsical tour ends with a cozy visit to your own home, just in time for Christmas.

Trish Madson’s retelling of *The Night Before Christmas* is a heartwarming and regional twist on a holiday classic. The illustrations by Chorkung are bright, engaging, and full of playful details that young readers will love. Kids will delight in spotting the mischievous little elves as they make their way through Michigan’s most beloved sights, and adults will appreciate how the story celebrates connection and shared memories, especially for families who live far apart or have ties to the state. This would make a perfect holiday gift not just for children who live in Michigan, but also for those who’ve visited or have family there.

Thank you to NetGalley and Familius for an advance copy of this adorable book in exchange for an honest review.
