What a cute read! The illustrations were very adorable. I learned a thing or two about Colorado from this! This would make a great gift for anyone with CO roots.

This entry in the "100 Words" series focuses on the Centennial State, introducing the youngest of readers to the iconic elements of Colorado. The book contains a list of things that contribute to the state's unique culture. I'm familiar with the series but this is the first one that I've read on a particular state, and I liked it very much. The illustrations are drawn in a soft, rounded style that shows the details of the things and people described, with simple text. I also like variety depicted here. In addition to showing common elements like state flag and the hot springs, wildlife and certain people, the book also features food and snacks, as well as common expressions and abbreviations that will be instantly recognizable to Coloradans. I also like the inclusion of little in-jokes, like the reference to the word "stoked." Each of the drawings are fun to look at and can spark further interest and research. (I didn't realize, for example, that Jolly Ranchers originated in Colorado.). Children will enjoy learning the words and pointing out the things they recognize. I can also see them referring back to the book as they experience visiting some of the places and trying the activities in the book for themselves. This book would work well in conjunction with other concept and alphabet books about states for very young readers.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, Familius, for this DRC in exchange for a fair and honest review. The thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.

These books are so fun and educational! My son and I absolutely love them! Thank you Netgalley for the ARC! Fun way to learn about all kinds of topics. I love Colorado and plan to go with my family to visit there. We will read this book a bunch before going

This was a delightful board book with words and phrases associated with Colorado, from nature (like aspen, rattlesnake, bison) to food (Denver omelette, Beau Jo's Pizza, green chili) to people (vaquero, Unsinkable Molly Bown), and more. The illustrations are clean graphics with a soothing palette of warm colors (orange, mustard yellow, brown, tan) and blues (turquoise and light blue). Sure to be a fun and appealing book for babies and toddlers in Colorado and beyond.

Thank you to NetGalley and Familius for a digital copy of 100 First Words for Little Coloradans. This little book is a delight. It's especially fun for kids who live in Colorado, but if you have family visiting, it's a nice little "See you later," gift. (It might keep some kids occupied in their travels back home.)
The illustrations were perfect, and I loved every bit of this.
I'm going to take my own advice and get a copy for any visitors we have.

🌳 100 First Words for Little Coloradans is a charming, cute board book with bright and animated illustrations as well as a playful sense of humor that will provide some great chances for parents and their babies/toddlers to connect through shared appreciation for their home state.

🌳 Instead of the normal baby book vocabulary, this one is full of places, people, foods, and animals that any local would quickly recognize. If you love gifting pop culture books and know Coloradans expecting a little one, this would make for a great gift! There's a good variety of terms to help build baby's vocabulary, and the squares make each item easy to identify.

🌳 Would definitely recommend for any little Coloradan's library! Would also be great for Colorado schools and libraries. The Colorado culture and landmarks are a highlight! Dinosaur Ridge, Casa Bonita, and there's even mention of the famous altitude sickness! Clever and cute.

5 out of 5 stars!

🌳 A giant thank you goes to Jessica Speer, Shea Speer, Familius, and NetGalley for the opportunity to take a look at 100 First Words for Coloradans. I will share my review to Amazon, Goodreads, and B&N upon release. ✨

This book was great!

I think this book is really eye-catching. I really liked the color scheme and all the pictures, as well as the animation style. It wasn't hard for me to tell what anything was.

I also liked how the words that corresponded to each picture were on a different part of the picture each time. It forced me to look at the whole drawing and, I think, engage with the book a bit more!

Love that this book includes the diverse areas, people, and places of Colorado -- and fun facts and slang too!

Gorgeous artwork! i love when I learn things from children's books. This one had lots of things to learn about Colorado and all things that happened there. My nephew really enjoyed this one.

This is a fun book for children to learn about the state of Colorado! If you have never been to Colorado, this book provides information on landmarks to visit and activities to do. The illustrations are clear and engaging! This would be a great book for children!

This is a cute intro to things that are related to Colorado. The pictures are very eye-catching. I think the text on each picture gets a bit lost among all the photos. I think the formatting distracts a bit from the words the book is trying to teach.
This definitely did not read well on the kindle.

An absolute TREAT for the eyes!

I suspected from the cover alone (don’t judge!) that I’d love this, and I was right. The color scheme? Perfection. The adorable little illustrations? Obsessed. The content itself? So charming it makes me want to become a Coloradan, or at least know one I can gift this to. I am, sadly, a Floridian.

I actually read a similar book recently aimed at little gamers, and I much prefer the cohesiveness of this one. (Though, to be fair, gaming is known for its chaotic color palette, so maybe that disjointed vibe tracks.)

This would be an ideal gift for anyone, no matter where they live. I want a version for all 50 states, please and thank you.

Huge thanks to NetGalley, Familius, Jessica Speer and Shea Speer for the privilege of this ARC (and an extra special thank you to whoever decided to include crocs as one of the illustrations. Kisses upon your forehead.).

Thanks so much to NetGalley for the free Kindle book. My review is voluntarily given, and my opinions are my own.

This 100 first word book would make a great present (or even just purchase for your own child) for any Coloradan. It's always great to find these books that don't have the exact same words, like A is for apple. Here you have things like D is for dinosaur ridge and S is for s'more.

This would be a great gift to take to a baby shower, addition to a daycare library or just a book for parents to buy for their child.
