This delicious return of Maddy and Baby was everything I needed in a cozy mystery—and then some. Valerie Burns crafts a sweet-yet-sinister tale that's as irresistible as a frosted cupcake, and Jasmin Walker's narration brings every character to life with charm and nuance.
I devoured this audiobook in just two nights (I was supposed to be going to sleep!), trading adult responsibilities for crime-solving and cake crumbs. Jasmin Walker’s voice performance was flawless—Maddy’s sass, Baby’s attitude, the layered cast—it felt like I was living inside the story.
If cozy murders are your jam (with a side of buttercream), this one’s a treat I wholeheartedly loved and appreciated.

⭐️⭐️💫 (2.5 stars, rounded up)
Our favorite #influencer-turned-baker Maddy is back! Along with her fiercely loyal pup, Baby, and once again, murder is on the menu. This time, Maddy heads to a local bridal convention to compete for a chance to have her dream wedding planned by none other than the famous Serafina. But when Serafina turns up dead, it’s up to Maddy and her usual crew to crack the case.
I typically read this series more for the cozy vibes than the mystery itself, but unfortunately, this installment felt rushed and lacked the charm I love. Once the murder happened, the pacing became too rapid. We barely had time to dig into the suspects before the (very obvious) killer was revealed. While the motive was eventually explained, the unraveling of the mystery felt abrupt, and I missed spending more time with Maddy and her quirky circle as they stumbled through solving the mystery.
A few side plots had potential but weren’t developed enough to add real depth. The story could have benefited from more breathing room to showcase the cozy elements and character dynamics fully.
That said, the audiobook narration was solid, even if the repeated #hashtag references started to get a little annoying.
What still works in this series are the heartfelt themes of family and community, and the added recipes continue to be a delightful bonus.
Huge thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Cozies for the advanced listener copy in exchange for my honest review.

I love everything about this series from the appealing covers to the pun-y titles and all the characters, especially English Mastiff Baby Cakes, Maddy’s drool worthy sidekick! And, honestly, when I started in on the first book, I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to connect with a twenty-something social media influencer but Maddy won me over with her sass and heart. Even if she likes to throw in the occasional hashtag now and then. In fact just call me a #BakerStreetMysteryFan!
Burns knows how to keep a reader engaged with her carefully (and diabolically) crafted mysteries and winning characters. One of the things I have come to appreciate about this series is the tremendous character growth we see in Maddy and that is really highlighted in this fourth book. I found her struggles with insecurity achingly honest. And the way Michael supports her is totally swoonworthy! The romantic elements are divine, and fitting since it’s their engagement story. They just have to solve a pesky murder before their wedding plans can really get underway. And that means the Baker Street Irregulars are on the case!
A lovely blend of cozy and mystery with just enough light romance to keep my heart atwitter. Absolute cozy perfection as far as I’m concerned. Praying there are many more Baker Street Mysteries in my reading future!
I listened to the audio edition of ‘Icing on the Murder’ narrated by Jasmin Walker who did an incredible job bringing all these characters to life with distinctive voices to match their personalities. Such a pleasure to listen to her performance. The audio books are definitely the way to go for this cozy mystery series.
My thanks to RBmedia and Net Galley for providing me with an audio copy of this book.

Another fun, cozy mystery from Valerie Burns! In this fourth installment of The Baker Street Mystery series, Maddy is back at it again, trying to solve another mystery after the highly unlikable Serafina is murdered. Maddy is in the middle of planning her wedding, and this only adds more stress, but luckily, she has the support of her Baker Street community.
Valerie Burn's books, particularly this series, are always a good time. It was refreshing reconnecting with familiar characters and joining Maddy on her exciting journey.
Thank you NetGalley, RBMedia, and Valerie Burns for this ARC!

3.75✨ This one’s a sweet and cozy mystery featuring a bakery owner turned amateur sleuth and a larger-than-life wedding planner caught up in a very messy murder. Think Scooby-Doo meets buttercream frosting, with everyone as a suspect.
I didn’t realize until I was into it that it was part of a series, and I definitely would’ve enjoyed having more background on the characters, but it still worked fine as a standalone.
Was it my all-time fave? No.
But was it a fun, easy read I don’t regret picking up? 100%.
I’ll be going back to read the earlier books, and maybe grab a cupcake while I’m at it.

Version: Audiobook.

When I requested this book I didn't realize it was the fourth in a series... so naturally I had to listen to the other three first. This is such a sweet series! It reminds of a quaint little community in a Hallmark movie or something... we a side of murder mystery.
The emotional and mental growth of Maddie's character over the course of the series is lovely to watch. Her lack of ability to see her strengths and what she brings to the table is difficult to listen to though. She gives everyone else credit and couldn't possibly see how she also contributed to the good things that are happening. With each book you do see her confidence in herself grow though with the support of all her friends made family.
All the supporting characters are so sweet and bring their own special flavor to each novel. Mrs. Hannah is my favorite. She's so fun and feisty! You will never have to question what she's thinking or where her loyalties lie! Baby's instant love and loyalty to her is very special and he makes for great light-hearted moments throughout the novel.
This is a great, wholesome series and I would highly recommend it. Thank you to Valerie Burns and RBmedia or allowing me to have an advanced copy of the adorable novel.

This is actually the fourth book in the Baker Street Mystery series, but it’s the first one I’ve read—and honestly, I didn’t feel lost at all. You can totally start with this one.
The story follows Maddy, who’s about to marry the love of her life, Michael. She’s overwhelmed (because it’s a wedding, obviously), and she really wants this fancy wedding planner, Serafina. But Serafina is out of her budget, so she enters a contest to win her services.
Except... Serafina ends up murdered on the same day, and Maddy becomes a suspect because they had an argument right before it happened. So now she has to solve the murder or risk showing up to her wedding in orange instead of white
I liked the book—it’s light-hearted, funny in a cozy way, and there’s a nice sense of warmth between the characters. It felt like a group project where everyone pitched in to solve the murder, which I found really fun.
But yeah, it was a bit too predictable. There were some interesting things—like these mysterious apples and old tunnels from slave times—that felt like they were going somewhere, but then nothing really came out of them. That was a bit disappointing.
Still, it’s a nice cozy read if you’re looking for something fun and not too heavy.
And one thing i would like to add, the narrator was CHEF'S kiss! Amazing. ✨

One of my favorite audiobooks this year! This is definitely one of my favorite series! Maddy is social influencer turned bakery owner after inheriting her aunts baker and big English Mastin Baby! This time around she’s planning her wedding and in true baker street mystery fashion a murder takes place. Maddy and friends with Baby by her side try to find the killer. I cannot wait to buy this book and add it to my collection !

Rating: 3/5
Maddy Montgomery has taken over her Aunt Octavia's bakery, "Baby Cakes Bakery," after she passes away. It is named after Octavia's giant mastiff, Baby, who now is also owned by Maddy. Maddy is engaged to Michael Portman, the vet in town. When Maddy goes to a wedding expo to promote her business, she also has entered herself in a wedding package for an event planned by one and only Serafina. Apparently, Serafina is actually a horrible boss and treats everyone around her terribly. For the final round of the wedding package competition, Serafina brings up each of the couples to be interviewed. But she instead brings up humiliating information about each of them. When Maddy goes up for her interview, she realizes she has cake skewers in her apron. She removes them when she gets poked by them. Everyone was shocked when that same skewer gets lodged into Serafina's neck and she's discovered to have bled to death. Who could have done it??!
This audiobook was decent, but I don't know if I was the correct audience for it. Maybe it would have been better if I would have read the first 3 books in the series (this is #4)? I felt like a lot of the book was extremely cringey -- the dialog, the #hashtags, the obsession with documenting everything for social media. It gave off a YA book vibe, but it still had some adult reading material in it, so I was a little confused. Eliminating the cringe, I thought the "who done it?" aspect of the book was pretty good. It was a quick read that I enjoyed, overall.
Thank you to NetGalley for the Audiobook ARC!

This is the fourth book in the Baker Street Mystery Series, and the first one I have read. While I could tell that there were somethings that happened in previous books, it didn't dampen my experience with understanding the characters and investing in the book. In fact, it inspired me to track down the previous books to deepen my enjoyment. For this book. Jasmine Walker voices The Irregulars with aplomb-I was very invested in this cozy mystery and appreciated how it unfolded: it was immersive. If one were to choose this format, one won't be disappointed. I read this alongside my mother and we emoted after every detail was revealed-this made the perfect buddy read. It isn't overly long and would make a great book to play during a family road trip.

Thanks to the author, narrator, publisher and Net Galley for providing an ALC of this book in exchange for my review.
This is book 4 in the series, and I have read one or two books in this series. I enjoy the characters and the writing style. I love that it is set in South Western Michigan (I grew up there, and there are so few books set there! Not one of the more exciting locations, but still a great setting, authors!)
In this installment, we catch up with the Baby Cakes crew and in this book Maddy is preparing for her wedding. Baby is a big focus in the story and in the investigation.
4 stars

This was a wonderful book that brought me back to this series. We get to see characters that we love doing their investigating. We get a smidge of baking and decorating from the wedding cakes Maddie is bringing to the wedding convention event. So some might be disappointed that we don’t get to see much baking. I liked that the whole thing took place in the wedding convention event space. It made for an interesting investigation. I also liked how different characters investigated different pieces and reported back to Maddie. It definitely made it seem like a group event. This isn’t a realistic investigation, but it was a fun cozy for me.

This was a great addition to the series. As a former wedding professional, I loved the setting of the bridal show and enjoyed learning about new trends in wedding planning. I enjoyed the time spent with Maddy, Michael, and their friends as they tried to solve the mystery. I love dogs and Baby is a fun addition to the series, though bringing a dog to anything that serves food doesn’t seem sanitary. This was a fun, quick mystery that had me guessing and second guessing the guilty party until the very end. Looking forward to the next in the series.
Narration was well done, no issues.

Maddy is back! This time we finally get our Happily Ever After with Dr. Michael. I love seeing how Maddy has grown through this series, starting off as a social media obsessed girl who cares way too much about herself to being a woman thriving with her found family and big baby of a dog (literally named Baby), while learning to run her own business.
We see Maddy mature a bit more in this book with her coming to terms with her insecurities when it comes to Michael's ex-girlfriend, and finding an unlikely friendship there to actually making decisions based on what she wants and not what others want her to want, and I'm talking about more than just her wedding planning.
We are still discovering more about Aunt Octavia and following Maddy and April (the town's sheriff) as they solve yet another murder together.
These books are seriously so good. They fit perfectly in my very specific niche of cozy mystery, with comedic timing, a strong female lead, and a dash of romance. Fans of Elle Cosimano and Jesse Q. Sutano must give this series a try!

Big Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for the advanced copy! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
'Icing on the Murder' is the fourth book in the 'Baker Street Mysteries' series. I read the previous three books prior to listening to this audiobook. The audio narration kept the story engaging. I listened at 1.25 speed.
The book follows Maddy, a 28 year old social media influencer turned baker in the past year. The romance developed into an engagement in the previous books sets the protagonist, Maddy, on a quest to land a famous wedding planner for her nuptials. she sets up to meet a famous wedding organizer to help. However, things get complicated when organizer is murdered.
Half of characters (who are all lovable and funny)carryover and the rest are introduced as part of solving the murder mystery.
I did not find the fourth book as enjoyable as the previous three books. I didn’t find new layers to the carryover characters nor did I see them evolve. The new characters did not evolve in my opinion. The new character I liked most was the French chef, the audio performance of this chef had me laughing! focused a bit too much on Maddy's story. Was hoping for more Baby Cakes role in book. Baby Cakes and Hannah continue to be favorite characters of the series.
I look forward to reading the fifth book in the series.
Lastly,, I loved the recipes at the end of the book.

This series is cute and I like that the protagonist is a POC. There is a generally cozy mystery vibe that is fun, flirty and suspenseful.

I've read all of the books in the series and I still do not like Maddie. I do not find her likeable at all. I continue reading for the the secondary characters, including Baby.
I found the narrator to do a great job, the pacing was really well done.

Icing on the Murder by Valerie Burns
Narrator, Jasmin Walker
Baker Street Mystery Book 4
This book was okay but I did not really love it. The murderer was pretty obvious and I did not really like the FMC very much. Too ditzy and unable to make a decision. I honestly don’t know how her level headed fiancee puts up with her. Also, how is that dog in the bakery all the time? Does the town of New Bison not have a health department?
Narration by Jasmin Walker is very good as always.
Overall, not the series for me.

Icing on the Murder didn’t quite work for me. While the cozy mystery setup had its charm, the premise—especially around why the protagonist needed a wedding planner—felt a bit frivolous. Some of the characters came across more like caricatures than fully fleshed-out people, which made it harder to stay invested. That said, fans of light, easy reads with a touch of whimsy might still enjoy the ride.

This was the fourth book in the Baker Street Mysteries series and it is a fun series. This was a very short cozy mystery that was pretty straight forward. I like these characters and was glad to see a new volume, but this one had more about Maddy’s upcoming wedding than the mystery and the solution was rushed a bit (and not as twisty as I would have liked). I listened to the audiobook and I really liked the narration. Maddy is getting ready for her marriage to Michael, but she is worried that she will not make the right choices and she wants it to be perfect. She enters a social media contest with a famous wedding planner because she knows having her tell Maddy what she should want would give her the perfect wedding. Unfortunately the wedding planner is murdered before the contest can even be finished.
