I had so much fun reading Not Today, Satan, by Samantha Joyce. This is a coming of age, young adult romantasy about a girl whose father is Satan and as she’s quickly approaching her eighteenth birthday, grapples with her thoughts and feelings on taking over Hell when her father retires. So, when I say coming of age, I’m not only talking about turning eighteen!
I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Especially Nate, who was by far my favorite character of all. He was truly a rare breed, selfless and thoughtful, not something you usually find in a seventeen-year-old. I loved how he remained true to himself and kept his faith, even when plunged into the depths of Hell. He stayed steadfast in his belief that he was sent there by mistake, and it didn’t take long for Devica to realize it as well.
Their travels through Hell and subsequently returning to modern day L.A. had me turning the pages so fast to see what was going to happen next. What a road trip these two went on! Devica was such a strong character, despite the dismal upbringing she had and the lack of love from her father. But I guess I should have expected no less, he is Satan after all. Even when she thought she was weak and wanted to give up, she kept on moving forward and fighting for what she thought was right, and she eventually realized that regardless of who her father was and how she was raised, she really was a good person with good intent.
I could really see this book being turned into a movie at some point, I could picture it all so clearly. The ending felt a bit rushed compared to the pace of the majority of the book, but it perfectly sets up what I can only assume is going to be a second book. If so, I am totally there for it!
Thank you to Entangled Publishing for providing me with an advanced review copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for this truly enjoyable, exciting, and humorous book.
I enjoyed all the humorous parts in the book as well as getting to know Devica, (Satan's daughter and heir to hell), and Nate, (innocent victim cast in hell pleading his case).
The story was an easy and fast read. I am 64 and I throughly enjoyed reading this YA book.
I have no problem recommending for readers of all ages.

Not Today, Satan is a witty young adult romantasy. The main character Devica is Satans daughter who is kind hearted and is loaths the idea of taking over hell upon her 18th birthday. Along comes a “shadeling”, Nate, who swears he’s innocent of his crime and their journey through hell begins.
The development of the characters is thorough and the book is quite PG. I did find it frustrating the lack of explanations to several plot holes in this book. However, it left off on a cliffhanger so redemption could be had.
I would recommend this book to YA because the writing style and vocabulary is easy to follow. I did find the first half of the book to be very slow but it picked up after the left hell. This book is a unique twist on Dante’s Inferno. The message I got from the book is to love yourself. It’s a great coming of age story.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to read "Not Today Satan" before it's official debut! I'm honored and very grateful for the opportunity.
Overall, I did enjoy the book, but I do feel there were a few big issues I'd like to address:
Pacing and Story: While I feel the pacing at the beginning and through the middle of the book was pretty solid, I do feel like the pacing began to falter in the last section of the book. Most notably, I found myself getting a little bored in the last 20% of the book, as even though I knew there was the climax of the book left to go, I was having trouble understanding why Devica's father could just leave the Underworld and put someone else in charge. It felt like it was done solely to have a climax as such, not that it really made sense in the story, as we'd been told previously in the book that her father was only ever able to leave for short periods of time. I suggest either adjusting the beginning of the book to have this not mentioned, or to add in other reasoning for him leaving Festus in charge. Additionally, we never see any interaction between Satan and Ferus, so I have a hard time believing that's who Satan would choose to leave in charge, AND if it was that Satan didn't care who took the throne, he just wanted to get out of there, I don't understand why he would have had Devica in classes so long to learn to take over. We only ever learn about Satan through Devica's eyes, so I think it would be a great idea to have at least one scene where he interacts with Devica directly (or him dismissing her, just something so we see that happen in real time for ourselves and we KNOW who his character is by his actions, not just by another character's words and memories), she overhears a conversation between Satan and Ferus/another character, etc.
My biggest issue overall with pacing came at the end of the book, as I found myself not as invested in the story and picking up my phone to get a distraction. My personal suggestion would be to cut the last 20-25% of the book by around 10-15 pages.
Character/Character Development: While for the most part I thought the relationship between Devica and Nate was written well, my biggest gripe came at the midpoint of the story, because again, it felt like it was written JUST for drama factor and not that it actually makes sense for their characters. When they're standing on the bridge surrounded and Devica makes the choice to say those awful things about Nate and that she was just using him, I do not, for a SECOND, believe that he would believe her so quickly. Why? Because they've been traveling together for MONTHS and have just shared a very intimate moment with each other in the ice castle, not to mention she pulled the SAME STUNT at the beginning of their journey together, and it was easily turned around and he understood what she was doing. My personal suggestion to fix this would be to do one of two things: 1) have Nate NOT believe her at first, and he thinks she's pretending again, and she does something drastic that makes him believe she really was being truthful. Perhaps it's her cutting him with her sword, or maybe there's one aspect of her Mom's story she didn't tell him, and so when she just tells everyone right there, he really DOES think she's using him. 2. The first time they pull this stunt closer to the beginning of the book, have it be Nate's idea to trick them, OR he makes her believe for a second that maybe there's some nasty trick being played on her by her Dad (maybe he was testing her loyalty and here she is trying to escape and now she thinks she's failed) -- just something so it's not nearly the same identical situation twice.
Dialogue: My other biggest issue with this book is a lot of the dialogue. Now, I fully understand that I am 24 years old and past the intended age for YA, but YA books are primarily what I have on my shelves and still love to read. In fact, I'd say 90-95% of the books I read each year are YA, and I read many YA books that have fantastic dialogue that feels it fits with the age range while also being believable. This dialogue felt a little too over-explanatory many times, in the way that I almost felt the author isn't expecting their audience to be able to pick up on more nuanced or complex writing. Many times, we were TOLD things rather than SHOWN them, as if the author wanted to REALLY make sure we didn't miss something, but by doing so, I felt an eye roll coming on, and I'd say to myself, "yes, I got that from what you just described, I don't need it to be said in dialogue too." My suggestion here is to remember that the audience -- even if they're 15-16 years old (and they shouldn't be any younger than 14 with some of the spicy lines and situations described, meaning that the younger style of writing REALLY feels out of place) -- are smart. They'll understand what you're showing them or telling them without you needing to explain every detail. I would also recommend just going back and reading lines out loud to see if they sound natural, as I feel the author will find when they do so, there are ways to reword some dialogue so it sounds more natural.
Overall, I think this book will have a really solid audience with some tightening up. The premise is unique, it's engaging, and it's fun. I know it's still got a few more months until release, so I can't wait to see what adjustments are made and how it gets even better!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️
Action-packed, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt—I loved this book! Devica’s Earth commentary had me laughing (the “Earl Grey tea” line is perfection), and the message about embracing imperfections and balancing light with dark really hit. As someone scared of cats, the “furry demons” line was spot-on. I thoroughly enjoyed the author’s humor and voice, and I can’t wait to read more. Thank you to Teen Entangled Publishing / Entangled Insiders Facebook Group for the ARC—I’m leaving this review voluntarily. ❤️🔥

Not Today, Satan by Samantha Joyce
What a fun and refreshing read! Defiantly a good read for YA. This book had me laughing nonstop with the two main characters. It centers around Devica (Satans one and only heir) and Nate, the totally-out-of-place boy who somehow ends up in Hell. Their journey through Hell is full of laugh-out-loud moments, clever twists, and surprising emotional depth.
Devica is just trying to figure out who she is in a world that expects her to be the next Satan.Together Devica and Nate navigate Hell and the bond between them grows on their journey.

Devica is the daughter of satan, and in a little less than a year, expected to take over his role in the underworld. She’s still learning her powers and how she fits into this world. When a new soul enters the underworld and makes her start questioning everything her world turns to chaos. A few rash decisions and she’s on the run with a human boy trying to escape the underworld.
The story is light and funny with many great quotes and one liners. A perfect portrayal of coming of age and learning about yourself and your world through experiences. I enjoyed both Devica and Nate, and how their personalities and minds complement each other well. It was cool to travel through He’ll and see all the lots/provinces and what makes them unique / what punishment or obstacles are set fourth for each sin.

I really enjoyed this YA novel. Devica is a seventeen year old teenager who is set to inherit the Prince of Darkness throne. No one really wants to be her friend since she will rule one day and her father is literally Satan. One day Nathan Reynolds a human shows up and is claiming he is innocent in the judgement he receives for committing murder. Devica later finds out that her father hasn't been truthful in something so that she sets out to find the truth. I love how descriptive this book was on the levels of hell and the characters that come along with it.

Spice: 🌶️
I enjoyed this action packed, funny, and heart warming novel! It had the perfect mix of comedy, charm, and plot. I didn’t think it was very spicy, but it doesn’t need it. I was swooning over the MMC - Nathan’s caring and sweet nature. His puns & flirting skills were also top notch.
I laughed at how the FMC- Devica, talks about things she doesn’t know about on Earth. Since she has lived in Hell her whole life. “He must be good at this tea thing if he’s been promoted to Earl.” (Talking about Earl Grey tea.) 😆
I was pleasantly surprised with the message I interpreted from this book! Some of my favorite quotes that can further explain: “Those imperfections make me who I am, and I’m proud of all of me.” “It would be impossible to have light if we didn’t also have the dark.” I didn’t think such a dark themed book would have an empowering message, but it did!
My favorite quote: “Weren’t cats the furry demons Father sent to Earth to punish the living?” I don’t fully agree since I am the biggest cat lover, but I get it! They can be the biggest A-holes.🤣
I can’t wait to see more from this author! I thoroughly enjoyed this authors writing style, humor, and heart warming message in this book.
Thank you entangled publishing, NetGalley, and Samantha Joyce for this ARC! I am voluntarily leaving a honest review. ❤️🔥

Thank you to Entangled and NetGalley for an ARC of this YA Romantasy. I really enjoyed this book, following Satan's daughter, Devica as she meets Nate, who obviously shouldn't be in hell. It was a cute coming of age, ending on a cliffhanger and I am super excited to read book two once it comes out!

This book was so good! Fast paced and funny, was definitely a fun read for me. I thought some of the scenes were a bit rushed and felt like they could’ve had a bit more depth to them, and the ending was kinda meh, but it didn’t really ruin the story. Overall I did enjoy this book! 3/5

This book has everything I didn't know I craved. Satan, Angels, star crossed love, pure love, humor and a kick ass heroine who kicks ass. There is familial angst and trauma combined with found family. Everything flows into a stunning story of figuring out who you are and your place in the universe while finding the family and live you didn't know you needed. The lots of hell and their punishments are so well thought out and frightening. The whole story takes you on an amazing ride with a cliff hanger end to leave you dying for more.

What a fun new take on Hell!
This YA book stars Devica, the literal daughter of Satan who is only a year away from taking over the throne. She isn’t sure she is ready it as her powers haven’t manifested all the way, and everything is thrown for a loop when she meets Nate, a human doomed to his lot in Hell for murder, even though he claims he didn’t do it…. And Devica isn’t sure he did either.
This was a very quick and modern take on Dante’s Inferno filled with plenty of sass and snark!
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I absolutely adore this unique story about Satan’s daughter! The vivid description of Hell and references to Dante’s Inferno were well done.

Being a teen is hard enough without being the Devil's only daughter. Devica just wants to decide her own fate not have to take over hell when she turns 18. When Nathan claims that he is innocent and should not be in hell, Dev has to make a decision on whether she helps him, and goes against everything she has grown up to believe, or leave him to his fate.
This book has a funny concept mixed in with real teen issues like image issues, family dynamics, first love, etc. The characters are endearing, funny, and supportive. I thought this was a really good read and can't wait to see what happens next!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this book. I really enjoyed the story! We follow Devica, the heir to Satan's throne. Although she is in hell, she still has a lot of good in her. It really starts coming out when she meets Nate. He claims that he shouldn't be in hell, so Devica looks into it.
That starts a journey for them. I loved Nate. Especially the nicknames he has for Ferus... Ferret, Flatulence, and Fishsticks 😂😂. He added a lot of humor to the story.
The ending will leave you wanting the next book with that cliffhanger. Next Stop? New Jersey.
Thank you to Entangled for sending me an ARC copy!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of “Not Today Satan”, a YA Romantasy. I think the author did a great job depicting a version of Dante’s Underworld and the Shadeling’s Lot assignments based on their sins on Earth. The 17 year old main character is relatable in her coming of age struggles with family dynamics and development. The cliffhanger ending in the Epilogue could have been expanded and developed more. I look forward to reading what happens in the next book!

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Teen for an advanced digital copy for review!
I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand, the world building was really fun to read, and the pacing was good for so many plot twists, and the romance was really sweet.
On the other hand, the main dilemma of the story makes 0 sense. <spoiler>How would the afterlife not know someone was framed for murder? How could Satan lie with an angel and not like explode if an angelic blood weapon is so dangerous to demons? </spoiler>
This unfortunately felt like some self insert fan fiction at some points, and maybe that’s because it’s YA and I’m not the target audience, but I really didn’t like Devica. She was constantly switching up, getting out of trouble easily, and a lot of the plot twists were just predictable.
If you’re a fan of the show Lucifer or the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, you’ll probably love this.

Not Today Satan by Samantha Joyce, publishd by Entangled Publishing is a witty and fun read.
Wonderful characters, a great storyline and fantastic characters.
Devica is the 17 year old daughter and heir to Satan.
She has to groe in her powers, has some growing up to do in general, has to fall in love for the very first time.
All that delivers the author in the wonderful novel.

This book is incredible. it has such a unique concept that i havent seen in any other book to this day. i thought it would be a basic romance however this book is action packed and full of adventure and had me hooked from the first page. honestly theres nothing that could be improved and i can 100% see this book going viral when released.
Thanks to netgalley for the ARC
