What a snooze fest!

I tried to find a nicer way of saying it but literally from start to finish I was bored out of my mind waiting for it to get better. There was no action!

The writing style felt like of a poorly executed John Mars imitation. In John Mars novels there is a lot of build up that seems to not be connected until you hit the end but at least in those novels there is action during the build up.

The twist in the book was so easily predicted that the last 30% of the book did not need to be an explanation of what happened.

I genuinely kept reading because I was waiting for something to happen and it never did.

Having one narrator for the audiobook did not help the book at all, I felt like everything g blurred together and I always thought one character was the POV.

An excellently plotted mystery with outrageous details and a cast of not-quite lovable characters. The entire premise of finding out when you will die and how that affects the rest of your time has been done so many times but not quite like this. I really loved the overall story and found the characters to be intriguing and their individual stories really made this feel more like a sweeping novel than a cozy mystery. The mystery was fantastic and I read this is on sitting because I just needed to know what happened. I was able to figure out the mystery but not the details and the author did a great job wrapping everything up nicely. Audio was perfect!

The audio was great!!! I was hooked the whole time and did keep wondering but I was expecting more of a shock. Either way definitely still worth the read, this was fun, quick and I thought a great time!

The characters were all unlikable from the beginning. Always had a problem with something. There were more than 7 reasons based on the title, but the length and writing were perfect!

As a diehard Agatha Christie fan (books, movies, tv series), I absolutely loved this book. My first taste of Agatha Christie was “And Then There Were None” and this is a great take on that plot.

A definite plus is the narrator of this audiobook. Jacqueline King does an amazing job. I love listening to her voice, rhythm for speaking, and portrayal of characters. Top notch.

The characters are definitely interesting. In some cases, you may know more than you ever wanted to know about them. They are colorful and a perfect nod to the typical characters of these types of novels.

The mystery is great. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I will just leave it at that. There are several time-jumps because of the nature of the plot.

If you love Mrs. Christie’s work or know someone who does, please buy them this audiobook.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for this ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

I was expecting more of a murder mystery - this was more of a profound exploration of human nature and how people react in the face of their own mortality - reminiscent of And Then There Were None, but far more drawn out and introspective

Seven Reasons to Murder Your Dinner Guests is a sharp and unusual tale that blends mystery, suspense, and a touch of dark humor into a truly unique reading experience. From the very first chapter, the setup is gripping—a dinner party that slowly spirals into a nightmare where guests begin to die in shocking and unexpected ways. What follows is a tense unraveling of secrets, lies, and motives that leaves the reader constantly questioning who or what is behind the chaos.

The strongest aspect of the novel lies in its originality. The premise is both intriguing and unsettling, and the author capitalizes on that with a steady stream of “oh no” moments that keep the tension alive. Each twist feels designed to upend the reader’s assumptions, ensuring that the mystery remains engaging all the way through. It’s the kind of story where every page tempts you to keep reading, if only to figure out which character will be exposed—or eliminated—next.

The characters themselves are a fascinating element of the narrative. On the surface, many come across as innocent, but as the story develops, layers are peeled back to reveal that not everything is as it seems. This sense of duality—presenting ordinary dinner guests who may not be ordinary at all—adds to the book’s eerie atmosphere and deepens the mystery.

That said, the story does occasionally linger in certain places, with sections that drag slightly before the next big reveal arrives. However, the originality of the plot and the clever twists more than make up for the slower pacing, and patient readers will find themselves rewarded with a conclusion that ties together the tension and unease in a satisfying way.

Overall, Seven Reasons to Murder Your Dinner Guests is a fresh and inventive mystery that takes the classic locked-room dinner party setup and injects it with new life. It is quirky, unsettling, and at times darkly funny, making it a memorable read for fans of unconventional mysteries who enjoy being kept guessing until the very end.

Seven strangers meet for an anonymously hosted dinner party where a card appears with the age at which each guest will die. Two weeks later, one guest dies at the age on the card. As time goes on more guests die. This book is told from the perspectives of each guest which I enjoyed because I got their story and history. Some characters I enjoyed more than others. I will say as the book got closer to the end I had no idea who put together the dinner party and made the cards. Then the twists came and I was surprised. This was a mysterious and thought provoking book. It would make for a great book club pick!
