This historical romance featured a second chance romance which is one of my favorite tropes. It follows Rebecca and Nate meeting 10 years after a scandal forced them apart. Nate is now a spy and they have to work together to catch smugglers. I liked the book and recommend it to anyone who loves historical romance
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. Opinions are my own.

✨ What I Loved
Potion-powered drama: Lyons takes the classic Regency romance formula and sprinkles it with a touch of magical mischief. It’s not overdone—it’s just enough sparkle to keep you hooked.
Second-chance romance feels: Rebecca and Nathaniel’s history gives their banter a delicious bite. There’s heartbreak, longing, and the kind of tension that makes you want to yell at them to just kiss already.
Spy games + society scandals: The espionage subplot adds a dash of danger, balancing the frothy fun with real stakes.
🧐 A Few Quibbles
If you’re craving a slow, deeply historical drama steeped in period detail, this isn’t that. Lyons keeps things light on the history and heavy on the banter and potion-induced chaos. And Nathaniel? He’s complicated—some will swoon, others will groan. Personally, I enjoyed the mess of him.
🥂 Final Verdict
The Truth Serum is like sneaking champagne at a ball—bubbly, slightly scandalous, and guaranteed to leave you giddy. If you loved The Love Potion, you’ll be right at home here. If you’re new to the series, it’s a charming entry point into a Regency world where love and magic collide.
Rating: 3/5 potions – A sparkling second chance at love, with a dash of spycraft and a splash of magical truth.
