I have to say that this is one of the first books that I have had a hard time keeping up with. I got confused between the past, present and alternate reality and it was hard to keep up with the characters as well. I thought that the idea of this story was brilliant and was looking forward to reading this one but I could not being myself to finish it once I got confused with everything. Sorry! I tried and I would urge everyone else to give this one a chance for themselves, maybe it was just me!

Interesting concepts were explored in the storyline. Kept me hooked until the last page and can't wait to read book #3.

Leaves of Fire is an excellent story, the kind of story that loops into itself like a picture within a picture. The suspense of the intertwined history of author and artist contriving an immortal world to correct flawed magic is entertaining. This 2nd volume stands alone and is well written.

I liked "The Invasion of Heaven" well enough, but this book is full of misused words as Mr. Koep strains the dictionary trying to affect a different voice. Very painful to read so I didn't.

To be completely honest, I did not even start this book. Based on the materials sent by NetGalley, I thougt this sounded like it was right up my alley. Since I wanted to start at the beginning, I purchased the first book, but could only make it partway through. I put it to the side numerous times and then picked it up again later, however, I could not work up any enthusiasm for the tale or the writing.

Koep's Leaves of Fire is a brilliant thrilling mystery filled with fantasy-inspired fast-paced adventures. His masterful use of words yanks the reader inside a maddening, yet beautiful mythological world.

Just not my type of book. I thought from reading the description I could get into the story but it was just not my style of writing or my type of storyline.

I was very excited when I saw this title - it sounded so intriguing, and when I looked up the first in the series it looked amazing... I got the first (The Invasion of Heaven) from Amazon (it was a Kindle Lending Library book!) and tore through it. It was incredible - complex, full of twists and turns and loop-the-loops. Half the time, I had no idea which end was up - in the best possible way. I couldn't tell if the characters were delusional or the world was. And when the big reveal came, it all got even weirder and even better. It ended with a vengeance, and I couldn't WAIT to start this second installment.

Then I started this second installment. Sigh...

I know that second books in trilogies often suffer as individual reads (particularly when you read them for the first time). I've seen them compared to middle children, a comparison which makes me laugh because it's often so true - there's none of the magic of seeing everything for the first time, none of the closure of knowing this is the last time you'll be a part of this particular world... I try to give second books an extra bit of benefit-of-the-doubt as a result, since I know they often (unfairly) bear the brunt of keeping things moving and tying everything together. I tried that strategy with this one. And tried again. And again...

But no matter what I tried telling myself, I could NOT get into this one.

There are SO MANY characters and story lines, and they are so wildly divergent and rambling, that even though I knew that they must come together and that they'd likely do so in a crazy-cool-random way, I couldn't stay in the story(ies). It seemed so far afield from the constant action and bizarreness of the first book. In that one, there was never a point that I wasn't questioning what was going on or where the story would go next - I literally couldn't turn the pages fast enough, the questions were so thick on the ground and the uncertainties so compelling... But this book just dragged at me. I couldn't find myself caring enough to keep turning pages, let alone turn them with eager anticipation. I looked up other people's comments to see if I was alone in this feeling, and see if I just needed to slog through the beginning to get there. Unfortunately, it seems that my experience is all too common among readers. It's a tragic shame, because the concept is so cleverly played out in The Invasion of Heaven...

It's been three years since the release of that book; I may have to wait three more until the conclusion is available and try again, because I'd really like to know how this whole thing wraps up. But I just couldn't slog through it now, painfully and slowly, knowing I'd have to do it again when the next installment is available (because there's no way one could wait years between these books and keep all of the relevant weirdness clear enough to follow it to its conclusion)...

Excellent continuation of the "stories within stories" started in The Invasion of Heaven. Mr. Koep has such a mastery of language and storytelling that he skillfully wraps characters together in a twisting and spiraling relationship without ever losing the reader. I think that Koep is one of the best writers on the planet today. Looking forward to the next installment. (Just my opinion.)

In Part Two of The Newirth Mythology, Leaves of Fire, Koep entwines these lives and lifetimes as he explores myth, memory, revenge and the hope of forgiveness.

The Invasion of Heaven, the first in this series told the story of the Painter and the Poet. This second book is about the Healer.

An author whose writings are prophetic and change the course of history. The first one was a bit of a slide into madness, which isn't always bad as we see in this book.

A battle between Gods and the ones who are tasked with keeping them where they are.

I'm really torn with writing a lot about this book because I loved the way I fell into it and got sucked down the rabbit hole along with the Poet and the Painter.

Almost like Stephen King meets Dan Brown! But fresh, original and just when I was getting a little tired of the same old reads Mr. Koep comes along and blows me away.

Just when I think there isn't anything original and fresh out there, along comes a book to prove me oh so wrong!

You don't have to read book one first, but I would anyway.

Great job! June 4, 2017 Release Date!

4.5/5. I hope Mr. Koep donates his brain to science when the time arises because he definitely has something that a lot of us don't. The ability to effortlessly skate through time and characters and spin a tale of amazing thought processes. I reviewed the first book in this series and didn't know if I loved it or hated it but knew that I would pick this one up and continue the journey. I enjoyed this book more perhaps since I read "Invasion of Heaven. So many story lines and limited brain function to assimilate every thing going on. He challenges the reader and this read is amazing. I am glad I decided to continue. The character are more developed, the story mesmerizing and who wouldn't like to write their own life to reality!

I give "Leaves of fire" by Michael B. Koep 3 out of 5 stars.

After reading previous reviews for "Leaves of fire" I was excited to receive a free e-copy from the publisher through netgalley.

I really struggled to get into the story and to distinguish between the characters. If I wasn't so stubborn and adamant I have to complete every book that I start I wouldn't of completed this book, however, I am glad I perceviered as the last 20% did greatly improve and capture my attention leaving me now eager to read the final book in the trilogy.

Previous to reading the book I read reviews stating it was not necessary to read the first book in the trilogy "The invasion of heaven" but I feel it would of been beneficial in assisting me to differentiate between characters and to follow the story line if I had done so prior to reading "leaves of fire".

Koep has a great talent for painting a picture of the story and I did really feel like I was there as I was reading. This book was just over complicated causing me to lose all excitement for reading it during the first 80%.

Some of the characters especially William really grew on me and I found myself willing him on, however, others I feel did not need to play such a large role which in turn dragged the story out and over complicated it for me. The characters may have played a larger part in "The invasion in heaven" which again why I feel strongly I should of read this first.

I would not buy or recommend this book but I feel I cannot give a true or complete opinion without reading the first and last books of the trilogy.

I really like this book. I wasn't sure if I would or not as it is kind of a time travel deal but it was so interesting that I found myself getting drawn into it and really enjoyed it. Mr. Koep does an excellent job of bringing the reader into the story and keeping them there.
