Description

Get Fords complete story in Ford Tough: 100 Years of Ford Trucks and see why they’ve dominated the truck market, selling 1.5 million trucks every year in the US alone.

In July 1917 Ford Motor Company introduced a one-ton chassis for commercial trucks, marking what many historians feel was its official entry into the dedicated truck business. Sure, after-market pickup beds could be added to a Model T car to convert it to a pickup, but with the debut of the rugged Model TT truck chassis, Ford was firmly in the truck market.

Eight years later, Ford introduced its first factory-produced pickup, a sturdy half-ton job the public loved. During the century that has passed since that first Ford truck chassis, the F-series has become the best-selling truck in the world, and the best-selling vehicle of any type in America.

Ford Tough: 100 Years of Ford Trucks tells the entire Ford truck story from the very beginning, when Ford got its start in truck production. This book provides the history of the wide array of models Ford has built over the past century, including the Model A roadster pick-up, stylish 81C pickups, legendary 1948 F-1, Bronco, Courier, Ranchero, and Econoline.

I don’t know how I never knew that the Cadillac Automobile Company started out as the Henry Ford Company. I think Cadillac I think Chevy, not Ford. Plus the Dodge brothers (yes those Dodge brothers) originally produced (not designed) the engines, transmissions, and axles for Ford. Now I probably have heard all that before, but for some reason it just didn’t sink in. For the most part this book does not cover the history of the Ford company, just the truck. One of the things that made this company profitable was the ability to turn out new trucks quickly and at a price low enough for the emerging middle class. I will be honest, reading the book does get droning at times, but the historical pictures, advertisements, etc. are fascinating. Plus the author pulls out snippet of information to highlight for those who may just be flipping throughout the book.

This is a great book and my husband loved it! He is a massive car fan and he said that the book was full of facts and interesting details covering the first 100 years of Ford Trucks. The book is laid out really well, the pages are nice and bright and it is very easy to read. The book covers from 1917 right up to the present day - an ideal present for any Ford fans or those that have a genuine interest in the history of cars.
