Description

 A woman with no roots…

Naomi fled the cult-like nightmare of her childhood and learned to rely on one person—herself. Her resourcefulness keeps her alive during a catastrophe in the mountains, but it’s no help at all when it comes to Chaska Belcourt, the sexy EMT who saves her life. Raised to feel shame about her body and sex, she is putty in Chaska’s hands as he strips away her armor, exposing the vulnerable woman beneath, awakening desires in her that she’d been taught to ignore.

A kiss that changes everything…

Chaska Belcourt grew up on the reservation, the son of a hereditary Sun Dance chief. He left all of that behind for a new life in Colorado as an engineer with an aerospace firm and a member of the elite Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. He doesn’t share his sister’s belief that he was led by fate to find Naomi. But from the first moment their lips touch, he can’t get enough of her.

A love that transforms…

As the passion between them turns into something more, Chaska is forced to admit that his sister is right. There’s no other way to explain the depth of his feelings for Naomi—or the fact that he and his people might hold the key to unraveling the mysteries of her past. But she will have to learn to trust again before the two of them can find the answers she needs—and claim this once-in-a-lifetime love.

 A woman with no roots…

Naomi fled the cult-like nightmare of her childhood and learned to rely on one person—herself. Her resourcefulness keeps her alive during a catastrophe in the mountains, but...

TEMPTING FATE is a fun, light read; and a nice addition to the "Colorado High Country" series. I liked Naomi, and it was good for the manly, quiet Chaska to have his story. Although this series is no I-Team, it is getting better by the book. Lots of sexy, studly S & R guys, and more to come. I felt like the summary of this one gives too much of the storyline away, however.

TEMPTING FATE is the fourth book in Pamela Clare's sexy and fun “Colorado High Country” series. Although there are mention of previous characters and events, the book is easily read standalone. Recommended for Pamela Clare’s fans; as well as anyone enjoying quality contemporary romance.

I always enjoy her books, this was the fourth book in the Scarlett Springs series, and we finally got our hottie Chaska. Chaska is out with his sister when his wolf senses that something is wrong, and takes off, and they find a young an unconscious woman, Naomi. Poor Naomi, was assaulted by two escaped convicts, and she was smart and resourceful and was able to get away from them before they were able to do worse thing to her, but they did still shoot her. Chaska immediately contacts team, and they get her out, and if any of you have previously read about the town of Scarlett Springs, you know how loving they are, and how they pull together. We read about the attraction of Chaska and Naomi, and was happy to read that he finally has his love story, and she was worth it, and when you read what that poor girl went thru, it was sad, but she did get her HEA, and I can't to see who is next. Will it be Winona, or Britta?

This was a book filled with unique perspectives and a fascinating in-depth look at Native American cultures, in particular that of the Oglala Lakota nation. I was intrigued by the set-up in this book, as most books I have read with Native American heroes tend to be historical. To have this take place in modern day, and encompass so much of what it's like to grow up Lakota in a country where ignorance of the culture is common, makes this book one-of-a-kind in my personal library.

Chaska Belcourt is an engineer by day and a volunteer member of the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team by night (and weekends). During a hike with his sister and their wolf, Shota, they discover a battered young woman who is lucid but unable to walk. After rescuing her, and sending the police to chase after her attackers, Chaska and his sister welcome Naomi Archer into their home. Bearing the appearance of a Native American but with stunning blue eyes, it's clear Naomi has secrets, and the attraction between her and Chaska is almost immediate. Wary of getting involved but helpless to resist the pull between them, Naomi and Chaska grow close. Having grown up in an abusive environment with her adoptive parents, Naomi knows she's found something special. But when she discovers the secret in her past, will she be brave enough to finally accept who she is?

Chaska and Naomi had instant chemistry, and it was really exciting to watch their relationship develop! While I balked a bit at how much focus Chaska and his sister seemed to put on what Naomi's ethnicity is (I tend to think that it shouldn't matter), I began to understand why as the book delved deeper into their culture. Chaska was deeply religious and liked to keep the traditions of his heritage alive. As he taught Naomi about the Lakota nation, including their language, it was sweet to see how much trust they put in each other. Her background being what it was, Naomi surprised me in her kindness and understanding of others. She definitely was a unique individual who deserved a happy ending.

I have read books by this author before, and I never leave dissatisfied! This was a great read with a lot of great cultural information about a group of people many in the US know very little about. Not only was this a nice romance, it was also a great educational book for me.

The distracting manboobs and hair on the cover aside, this was an unexpected treat of deep emotions, family roots, and soul searching. This was trademark Pamela Clare: strong characters with deep family and community roots, outdoors rescue drama, and simmering sexual chemistry. But what made this stand out was the deft and respectful incorporation of Lakota tradition and values into Chaska and Naomi's romance.

At first, I stayed up reading to find out what happened to Naomi on the mountain; the River Wild style tension was beautifully done. Then I had to stay up even longer to find out if she solved the mystery of her parentage - the emotional highs and lows that Chaska and Naomi experienced while opening themselves up to each other and their families was gorgeously done. By the time I hit the hilariously tender horsepower bride price scene, I knew that Naomi and Chaska were destined for a true HEA. Then again, any couple that could get through the equally hilarious "jalapenis" debacle should be guaranteed a HEA :)

5 - You were led to her... Stars!

We return to the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue team for the further book in Pamela Clare’s outstanding Colorado High Country series.

IMAGE.

Tempting Fate is Chaska Belcourt’s story, and I loved this book from its first paragraph to the last of the epilogue. I’m a relatively new reader of Ms. Clare’s work, this series has basically been my initiation into her awesome writing style, and once again she did not disappoint.

"Don’t think I’ve gotten enough of you because I haven’t."

This book is a little of everything but all built around a great romance. The author took the Native American heritage that Chaska lives his life by and the beliefs he has that stem from it, and weaved it into the story, as well as the romance that built between him and Naomi from the moment of her rescue right to the point where they declared their love for one another.

"What you are… is a survivor. Who you are is entirely up to you."

Both characters aren’t actually looking for love and romance, so it comes as a bit of a surprise when their feelings towards each other change almost immediately. The chemistry between these two was off the charts, but the sexy times weren’t rushed. Naomi and Chaska’s ideas about love, sex and relationships are wholly different due to their upbringings and I just adored the way Chaska went about restoring Naomi’s confidence in herself sexually and as a woman in general.

"May be the Great Mystery behind this world see’s all you’ve endured, knows how brave you’ve been and how alone, and wants you to be happy…"

This was just an all-round enjoyable read. It’s like going back and catching up with friends and family now, I just adore the whole dynamic with the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue family and each book the author releases that adds to the depth of knowledge I have of the area and the characters, and it just makes each book even better.

"This place, these people… Naomi could come to love this."

This is a series that will hopefully run and run, the author has set up Scarlet Springs, its residents, and the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue team in such a way that I don’t think she will run out of stories to tell or characters to put in them any time soon.

I had a hard time putting this book down. It started off exciting with great suspense and action, and then it drew you in to connect with the characters and their struggles, particularly Naomi. Pamela Clare did a great job of weaving Native culture into the story without it feeling like a gimmick to draw readers. Her writing conveyed a great respect and sense of realism which only comes from research. Once I read the author note at the end of the book, I understood where her respect originated and respected her work even more. I am not a person who thinks a real and valid point can only be made through non-fiction. While I enjoy fiction for the enjoyment and escape it gives me, I also like being challenged by a book to alter the way I think or to learn more. All that said, it was also a nice work of romance and suspense with a heavy hand toward emotional struggles and the connections of family.

This was my first book in this series though I have read a couple of the author's I- Team books. I had no problems at all reading this as a standalone though it did leave me with a curiosity which will likely have me checking out the previous books soon.

I was so eager to read the 4th book in the Colorado High Country Series. The main reason: Chaska
I've been so intrigued by this tall dark and handsome hero. All of the Search & Rescue team members are heroes. There's just something I loved about Chaska- even as a minor character in books 1-3.
The setting of course, is Scarlet Springs, CO. Not too far from Boulder. It's July, in the mountains above Scarlet Springs, CO
This is told in 3rd person POV. The heroine, Naomi is new to this series. Chaska and Naomi's meeting is very dramatic.
The beginning of this story really takes off. Naomi is pretty much all alone in the world. She's a talented photographer and nature/wildlife jewelry artist. She's camping while she explores and photographs the scenery and wildlife.
Chaska's sister Winona had just been on Chaska's case to find a special someone. He's been busy with work as an aerospace engineer and volunteering with the S&R Team. Winona runs a wildlife sanctuary. She has a wolf, Shota, who plays a key role in helping save Naomi. No sooner did Winona mention finding someone.... they come upon Naomi. I don't want to give too many specific details. I love how the story unfolds.
Yes, it's dramatic. Naomi is rather mild mannered, timid. She's much stronger than she realizes. Her early life was really tough to read about. It made me angry and sad. Naomi felt like she didn't belong anywhere. She had the look of a Native American, but with blue eyes.
Chaska and Winona didn't press her for details-at first. She gradually reveals her past.
Chaska and Naomi grow closer. Chaska is very gentle and protective of her. He tells her that this is one of the definitions of a warrior. Chaska and Winona are Oglala Lakota. Chaska and Winona aren't in touch with their parents but are close to their grandpa, they call "Old Man". I absolutely love Winona and "Old Man". Winona is my all time favorite book-sibling. Old Man (Grandpa Belcourt) cracked me up. His wisdom and sage advice had me missing having a grandparent around.
The town- people of Scarlet Springs are very kind and welcoming to Naomi while she recovers. They seem too good to be true. I went with it. I'm sure that there are small close-knit communities that regularly help out those who need it.
The suspenseful part is in the first half of the book. That leaves the 2nd half for Chaska and Naomi's relationship to grow. AND of course-- the romance. Whew. Chaska, WOW. He's so wonderful to Naomi, and very patient and romantic.
Naomi (and I) learned a lot about the Lakota ways. Naomi learns more about her own heritage.
There were no slow parts for me. I was really caught up in this wonderful story.
Naomi was NOT weak at all. Chaska & Winona, Old Man and many others recognized her strength in surviving-and beginning to thrive. It wasn't really a coincidence that Naomi & Chaska met. I think that Naomi was drawn to Scarlet Springs. She found her way home, her real home.
I loved the ending. It was so funny and romantic. The epilogue was very good. HEA.
Be sure to read the Author's Note at the end (98%). I sometimes skip those. Ms Clare mentions her personal and journalist experiences with the Native peoples.
I will be re-reading this book many many times. Chaska and Naomi's love story is about finding their one and only. They were in each other's path.

Chaska and Naomi's characters made for some good reading, so too, Winona's. The series as a whole has been outstanding reading and Tempting Fate by Pamela Clare was another great instalment.

If you haven’t read Pamela Clare, you definitely are missing some stunning stories and Tempting Fate is by far one of her very best works I’ve read of hers.

Book four of her Colorado High Country Series, Tempting Fate is the journey of a young woman trying to find her roots, heritage and finally belonging to a community that would be become a part of her life. Victim of a crime when vacationing in Colorado, Chaska Belcourt, the son of a Sun Dance hereditary chief, saves Naomi. As a genius aerospace engineer and a member of the elite Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue Team, Chaska believes in fate and destiny and he was meant to save her from near death.

Staying with Chaska and his sister Winona, Naomi truly learns the works of life. Having being adopted by a cult family and ruled with an iron control, Naomi has been bound by the walls of the cult. But now recuperating in Chaska’s home, and with his sister Winona lending a helping hand, Naomi truly learns the works of life.

As Naomi heals under the loving care of Chaska, the sparks of attraction consummate the growing love for each other. Tempting Fate is a beautifully written multicultural love story, steeped with support and care, friendship and brotherhood, love and passion, family and heritage. Pamela Clare’s depth of detail and knowledge of the Lakota heritage, and her real life experiences give the story charm and reality, enlightening the readers and a pleasure to read this romance.

And the clarity and characterization of Chaska and Naomi must be read to understand their chemistry, their love and the relationship that gives them the courage and strength to make a future.

4.5*

Whether she’s writing romantic suspense or contemporary romance, Pamela Clare excels at creating three-dimensional, realistic characters and delivering an emotionally engaging and compelling character arc--including the love story between the hero and heroine. TEMPTING FATE, the fourth book in her new contemporary Colorado High Country series, is no different: whilst it doesn’t evoke quite the same level of feels as its predecessor, FALLING HARD, it both delivers a heartwarming, charming story about finding one’s true self (and love) and honours & educates us about the Native American community (specifically, the Oglala Lakota). At the heart of it, TEMPTING FATE is about two modern members of the Native community finding their place and true love outside of the confines of traditional life on the reservation, but it is a story that rings resonates with everyone, regardless of what community they belong to. Heroine Naomi Archer is searching for her identity and place in the world after being abandoned as a newborn and raised in a repressive religious cult that both disdains her Native heritage and teaches her to be ashamed of her sexuality and her body. Hero Chaska Belcour, the grandson of a hereditary Oglala Lakota Sun Dance chief who left the reservation to pursue engineering, isn’t looking for love but wouldn’t mind if Creator puts the woman of his dreams in his path. Fate brings them together to kickstart a love story that is equal parts sweet and sexy. Watching Chaska help Naomi realise her inner strength, come into her own, and discover sexual freedom and empowerment is incredibly heartwarming. Chaska is seriously the type of man most of us women dream of meeting, and watching him fall for Naomi is just as moving. The chemistry between the two is off the charts from the outset without ever feeling forced or unrealistic. And Ms. Clare wraps it all up with her trademark superb writing style and cadre of outstanding secondary characters (including a cameo by my all-time favourite hero, I-Team’s Zach McBride!). Can’t wait for the next instalment in the series!

Chaska is an engineer and a volunteer with the Search and Rescue Team. He is also a member of the Oglala Lakota nation. When he rescues Naomi on the mountain he is immediately attracted by her bravery and beauty. She has overcome a tragic past and has no family. Romance blossoms between the two of them and Naomi discovers who she is in this enjoyable romance.

Who knew that getting assaulted while camping would bring about changes in Naomi's life, changes that would help Naomi find love, a place to belong and a big family. Even as I was scared for what was happening to Naomi, I loved that right away she thought of ways to thwart the bad guys, that she was going to fight and fight hard she did. Her actions were great, giving her a way to escape.

Chaska's one comment on his walk with his sister, Winona was great, it was like he was daring the big guy to make it happen and happen it did. It was a good thing that Naomi was found by the brother and sister and to be in Scarlet Springs. Chaska had the skills to get help for Naomi and Winona took Chaska's comment to heart and gave Naomi a place to recover.

As Naomi settled into the house with the siblings it was fun to see them all interact, for Naomi to be around other Native people and not be looked down on, for the attraction between her and Chaska to grow, for her to share her painful past. I loved how Naomi's past came into play, loved that she was finally able to learn about where she came from. But the best part of the book was the courtship between Chaska and Naomi. Chaska took things slow, with each move he made it was clear how much he thought about Naomi and wanted her.

The other great part of the book was the town embraced Naomi, how they wanted to help her and let her know she was welcome there.

I liked how this one ended, loved that our couple had a HEA, loved how they blended both cultures, loved that Naomi's dream was realized and the last question to her past was answered.

As usual, Pamela Clare delivers another amazing book. I seriously love this woman and the strong characters she writes. I will admit that I haven't read any of the other books in this series. Contemporaries and myself have been having a difficult time getting along lately. This can be read as a standalone, as I did so with no issue. Lots of characters but I never felt overwhelmed with past characters from previous books from the series. The story was engaging and endearing. The romance was spot on and wonderful to read. I would highly recommend this to any friend who needs a good book to lose themselves in.

Chaska and his sister, Winona, are out for a hike near their property with their wolf, Shota. As only a sister can do, Winona is pestering Chaska to date a woman on his search and rescue team. No sooner than he off handedly comments, “I’ll wait until the right woman comes along. Creator can feel free to put her in my path anytime,” Shota rushes ahead, leading them to find an injured, unconscious Naomi lying in the opening of a mine shaft. She managed to get away from two ex cons who found her campsite, only to shot, break her ankle when she fell and suffer from hypothermia overnight.

I’m a huge fan of Pamela Clare’s I-Team series and blazed through that, so I was thrilled to get my hands on an advance copy of a book in another series of hers. Her I-Team series is easily comparable to Maya Banks’ KGI series or Elle Kennedy’s Killer Instincts series, but “Tempting Fate” is in a class all its own! Rich in Native American history and traditions, the characters are multilayered, vivid, captivating and irresistible, and the storyline is compelling and fascinating. The secondary characters are quirky and endearing, and the descriptions are rich, dramatic and picturesque. The town of Scarlett Springs is so warm and welcoming that I would move there in a heartbeat if it actually existed!

Chaska’s character is one that wins the heart immediately with his brilliant mind, warrior’s heart, handsome good looks and compassion, and Naomi is a woman I wanted to applaud, idolize, comfort and keep safe all at once. Their relationship is tender, sweet, beautiful and sexy, complete with sizzling chemistry. And this is the first time I’ve ever read a scene that catapults from smoking hot to gut- busting hilarious in the blink of an eye! Not to spoil it, but I’ll certainly never look at milk the same way again. This captivating book is a feast for the senses, an enchantment for the heart and a true delight to read. Don’t think twice about grabbing this gem. You won’t be sorry!

Another great addition to Clare's bookshelf. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and loved learning what I would assume to be actual facts about the Lakota Nation. It was inspiring to read about their history and sad to read about their current struggles with unemployment and low numbers of those seeking higher education. I did find myself stumbling over trying to pronounce the Lakota language. I would have liked a glossary of terms with the phonetic spelling to help me.

Only thought was to have a final ending to those horrific adoptive parents.

A+!!

I loved this book! This is an awesome series and I really enjoyed Chaska’s story. I love all the characters in Scarlett Springs and it was great to see the Team at it again. Naomi was an excellent match for Chaska, she was strong and independent but so in need of love and roots. I loved watching Chaska fall hard and fast for her, no matter how hard he tried to deny it was happening. I also loved getting to see more of Chaska’s sister Winona and I have to hope we’ll see her happy ending soon. This book is fine as a stand alone but this entire series is excellent and I recommend them all. I was graciously provided a copy of this novel by net-galley for an honest review.

This is my 2nd novel by Pamela Clare and she's found her way to my auto-but list. The first two books of this series are already sitting on my kindle waiting for consumption. Clare is such an amazing storyteller who sucks you in, and you find yourself invested in her characters.

I don't even know where to begin when reviewing Naomi and Chaska's amazing story, a story laced with Native American culture.

Chaska tempts fate when he tempts the creator to place his other half in his path. Immediately, he is led to Naomi, unconscious in a ravine after fleeing two convicts who approached and made plans for her at her campsite.

Clare has a way with words and pacing, painting a beautiful story full of feels and passion.
A great read.

Such a powerful story, I couldn't put it down. Chaska is part of the search and rescue team and true to his Lakota heritage. Naomi is on vacation when a turn of events sends her into Chaska's arms. I really enjoyed their discovery of love while surrounded by drama, murder and mystery. The author handled the background of Native Americans with dignity and respect and once I read the author's story after the Epilogue I understood why.
The story well well written and captivating. I enjoyed the characters in this small town and the feeling of family.

**I received a copy of Tempting Date from Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review**

Tempting Fate by Pamela Clare is such a sweet and poignant book it will have your heart from the very first page to the last one. It's the fourth book in her Colorado High Country series and I hope there are many more to come as I'd love for Winona to have her own book. I've read several of Ms. Clare's I-Team stories and now will need to read the rest of the books in this series to catch up with the High Rescue Squad.

Naomi Archer's story is a touching one as she was abandoned as an infant with only her Medicine wheel necklace. She was adopted and raised by a religious couple who believed the girls should be married young to the much older men of their sect. She escapes at 16 works hard and is out camping near Scarlet Springs. She's worked hard as a waitress to bring her dream of a store to display her Silversmiths art. But when she's attacked by two escaped convicts who later shoot her, but she escapes but breaks her leg. She finds a cave and hides until the next morning when Shota a wolf finds a her. Chaska and his sister rescue her and take her in to recover. What follows is a journey of discovery for Naomi of who she is Lakota, finding her father and falling in love with Chaska. I love how the bride's price to her father was portrayed in the book it was awesome.

Chaska Belcourt is proud of his Oglala Lakota heritage and he's also designs propulsion systems for satellites. He's also a member of the high rescue team as well as a climber. But when he tells his sister that the Creator would send a sign that his half side little does he know that it will be Naomi and that he would help her find her father Doug Otter Tail. The attention to detail in this story is well researched and Ms. Clare's own information at the end tells her own journey to make sure each story she writes is accurate for the Lakota people.

The town of Scarlet Springs rally around Naomi and welcome her long journey to find herself, her beautiful art and of course Chaska. I'd gladly give Tempting Fate 10 stars if I could.

WOW! The intro into this book is a page turner. I couldn't put it down once I started, but that how all the books by Pamela Clare are for me. This is the fourth book in her series Colorado High Country. I found this one to be one of my favorites so far in this series. This book had me in tears, laughing, gasping, angry, and scared. I felt like I knew the characters and even though I was reading I thought the author did such a great job that in my inner mind I was watching it like a movie. I was wondering how she was going to write Chaska’s story and disappointed I was not! Naomi’s background story was so heart breaking and yet her reward for not giving up is the best reward one could ask for. She is a strong loving person and I admire her for her strength and willingness to be a good person. I loved to way Chaska and Naomi became close and the way he rescued her in more ways than one. You have to read this for yourself to see what I mean.

I loved "Tempting Fate" by Pamela Clare. Swoon-worthy, intelligent male lead and a smart female with the wits to match him. Aah, this one is a good one!
Naomi was abandoned as a baby and raised by an awful couple, neglected and abused and left to feel less than worthy. She was able to run away at 16 and become a jewelry designer. On a week-long vacation in Colorado, she is attacked by two prison escapees who chase her through the woods, shoot her and leave her for dead.
Chaska, a member of the Lakota tribe, rocket scientist, member of a volunteer rescue climbing team - can it get any better, is out for a walk with his sister and her wolf (yeah, wolf) and stumbles upon Naomi. He calls for her rescue, she is pretty badly hurt, and gets her out of there.
Naomi has nowhere to stay after she is injured and is worried about the cost of her hospital stay and surgeries, Chaska's sister invites her to stay with them and recuperate and she takes her up on the offer. That's when the sparks really start to fly. Naomi and Chaska are pretty instantly hot for each other - but they are friends as well and actually like each other. So refreshing to read about a couple who want to be together and are willing to work and talk through their feelings in order to be together.
Hot, hot lovin' in this book. All of the situations Chaska and Naomi face may be tied up a little too easily, but this is romance - suspend your beliefs for a bit and be happy for the couple. This is the first book I've read by Pamela Clare, definitely will look forward to reading more!

I've enjoyed Pamela's books for many years and with every story she tells, the way you are drawn into the book she so easily does. And with Tempting Fate, it was exactly that. Chaska, so caring and loving but so protective and pure alpha was exactly what I was expecting from his character. And Naomi, oh I just wanted to hug her. Finding Chaska was her destiny and her fate. Together they were beautiful and another great addition to this series!

ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
Naomi did not know that her vacation in Colorado was going to changed her life.
While camping, she was attacked, but she was able to escape.
She was rescued by Chaska, his sister Win, and the wolf Shota.
They gave her a place to stay until she got better.
It wasn't just her physical wounds that needed healing,
Abandoned as a baby, she never knew who her father or mother were.
Because of the medicine wheel she always carried, her past start to unveiled
Piece by piece, her past is presented to her.
She does not know what to think.
Let's not forget Chaska.
Dark + handsome, a total Alpha male.
The first time he saw Naomi, he already could see her beauty
As he got to know her, he saw that she was beautiful not only on the outside, but on the inside as well.
They feel in love gradually, but inevitably.
It was a really sweet love story.
I feel in love w/ Chaska + Naomi,
They felt so perfect for each other.
The way Chaska asked Naomi's father for her hand in marriage. Hilarious!
Totally buy this book. You will not be disappointed.

Naomi fled the abusive cult-like nightmare of her childhood when she was sixteen with the only possession she had of her birth family, a medicine wheel. She learned how to rely on just one person - herself. Her resourcefulness became handy and keeps her alive when she is taken hostage by two escaped convicts that force her to cook for them and threaten to rape her. She manages to escape but ends up shot and falls down a ravene only to end up with a broken tibia, that was when Chaska Belcourt finds her with the help of his wolf, Shota.

Chaska grew up on a Lakota reservation, the son of the Sun Dance chief. He left that life behind when he discovered his father was disgracing the Sun Dance ritual and the desire to become an engineer. Chaska followed his dreams and works for an aerospace firm creating products for NASA and a member for the elite Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team in Scarlet Springs. He doesn't believe that fate led him to her at first, like his sister, but eventually he does come to see that he was.

After being abandoned beside a dumpster and almost dying, Naomi believes that her parents didn't want her. With the help of the medicine wheel, Chaska, and his grandfather they soon discover that her father is Lakota and didn't know she existed and her mother loved her but was forced to give her up by her parents as a teenager. She finally has a family, a life, and the man of her dreams.

As usual Pamela Clare brings two fictional characters to life, a town full of people that care for one another and come together to help someone in need. Scarlet Springs is the town that I wish really existed. It's always nice to see characters from previous books, and the Rescue team at work at Tommyknockers. I always look forward to the books of this series, and I always know that I'm going to need tissues, but I always love the stories. I was not looking forward to the book ending but I couldn't put it down. This was one enjoyable book and I look forward to reading the next book of the series.

Anytime I pick up a book by Pamela Clare, I know I'm going to have a tough time putting the book down until I finish. This book is no different! While technically this is the fourth book in the series, it can easily stand on its own. After rescuing Naomi from certain death, Chaska and his sister Win take Naomi into their home to recuperate from her injuries. While there is a certain amount of matchmaking on Win's behalf, it is easy to see that there is a definite attraction between Chaska and Naomi.
One of my favorite parts of this book were the elements of Lakota culture that were interspersed in the book. And if you read the author's note at the end, these facts come from the extensive time she has gotten from her work as a reporter covering important issues to the Lakota nation. So aside from being a very enjoyable contemporary romance, I feel like I actually learned something. How often does that happen in a romance novel!

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

Pamela Clare has once again given us an emotionally charged intense read with Tempting Fate. It is part of the Colorado High Country Series but read v well on its own. The past being resolved in a unique fashion along with the Native American culture that is part of the story makes this one of Pamela Clare’s best romance stories.

For a while I didn’t see anything new by Ms. Clare then the Colorado High Country Series came out. This is a marvelous series with Tempting Fate to be an excellent addition to the series. I loved the mystical element, the strong characters especially Chaska and the attention grabbing and holding story-line. This author has come back to the front my reading list better than ever. You go girl, keep on writing!

I am a big fan of this series and have enjoyed all the books so far. I really enjoyed this one as well. Both Naomi and Chaska were wonderful characters that fit well together. I also really enjoyed the information about the rescues, the native american culture and the animals and landscape of Colorado. There was a small mystery and just enough action. The romance was sweet and I enjoyed watching Naomi grow throughout the book. Chaska was a wonderful hero and not only was he sweet, hot and smart but he loved to take care of people. As always the secondary characters were interesting and added to the book.

Excellent story with a slow burn building to a perfect heat.

This is a story with multiple peaks, not just one climax. Naomi is assaulted while on a solo camping trip. Chaska is one of her rescue team. From there, their relationship develops and deepens.

This is a great read. Five stars.

Tempting Fate is the fourth title in the Colorado High Country series, a contemporary romance series that features members of the Rocky Mountains Search and Rescue Team. I thoroughly enjoyed the previous title in this series Falling Hard, and could not wait to read Tempting Fate, and I was not disappointed. I found this title to be highly entertaining and engaging and I was captivated from the very first page.

Tempting Fate is Naomi and Chaska's story, and although it's a contemporary romance, it features and element of intrigue and suspense. The chemistry and connection between this pair is undeniable. Ms Clare has created a pair of characters that are well developed, complex, realistic, endearing and charismatic. The banter between this pair is honest and heartfelt, but also fun, flirty and at times humorous.

Chaska is a warrior through and through, he is incredibly proud, dedicated and respectful of his Native American heritage. I was captivated by this tall, dark, sexy warrior who is also incredibly kind, gentle, caring, intelligent, brave and protective.

I loved that despite her vulnerabilities Naomi is a survivor, and incredibly like-able with an inner strength to be admired, with such honesty, talent and very sweetness.

Chaska and Naomi's story is well paced and well written and told in a dual point of view. I loved the strong themes of family, friendship and community that flows throughout. I love a series with titles that are interconnected, with characters that appear in previous and subsequent titles. I loved that the characters that appeared in the previous title Falling Hard, appeared throughout Tempting Fate in cameo roles. I will be eagerly anticipating future titles in this series, and hope to see more of the members of the Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue find their happy ever after.

I love reading books by Pamela Clare. Her books have so much detail that the picture forms in your mind effortlessly. She always show how she has researched her book and it comes through in her writing. You love her characters and love her writing style. You cannot go wrong with a Pamela Clare story. Naomi has had to overcome a cold and unloving childhood. A tragedy lands her in the hospital in a strange town, which turns out to be a miracle in disguise. She learns that people can be loving and warm without wanting anything in return. She meets the love of her life who stands with her through all her problems and shows her how easy it is to love her. I loved the Native American aspect as well as the bond of the community. You really just want to move into town. And there is Shota, who is awesome.

TEMPTING FATE is one of those books that's more than a romance. It's a dive into another world of unique, funny, and relatable characters and a story based in strength and hope. Chaska and Naomi each have their need for independence, but when their paths cross, seemingly by divine intervention, they fall together an undeniable passion. It's not fast, it's not easy, but it's perfectly sweet and sinful and oh so right. But it might be so right that neither can believe and trust in it. Even though when they're together around the house, out and about or with the Team the fit together in a way they can't turn away from. It's too much of a good thing, when they've never known something this good before. And that perfect fit leads Naomi to a truth she never expected and always craved, but it could be the very thing that steals her away from Chaska.

Chaska and Naomi together gave me all the warm and fuzzies. He's incredibly kind, sweet, and insanely sexy that will make you hot and bothered in all the right ways. Naomi, is that little bit of wildfire, and little bit of insecure that's in all of us. And her path to where the ending finds her, grabbed onto all of my emotions and tugged until I was rushing to finish this incredible story. I can't quite explain it, but TEMPTING FATE just sucked me in and left me needing more from this eclectic and lovable group of people. Chaska and Naomi really felt like an epic love to me, but what they found with each other, the acceptance and embrace of others they never knew they needed also touched something deep in my heart as well. A fantastic addition to the Colorado High Country series and I'll be desperately waiting for more from Ms. Clare!

Happy Reading!

Love! Not only was this an amazing love story, but the insight into the Native American culture was informative, interesting and flowed wonderfully with the story.

I love the Rocky Mountain Rescue Team and Naomi is a great addition to the team. Chaska and his sister, Winnona, rescue Naomi after she had a nightmare experience in the mountains. Winnona is convinced they were led to Naomi and she is meant for Chaska. While he at first doesn't agree with each passing day and each new thing he learns about Naomi he begins the think that might be true. These two end up have great chemistry and passion which they can't deny.

Naomi has a terrible upbringing, but a clue from her past might be able to unlock her true identity. Chaska enlists help from his grandfather and soon to part of the story leads to a discovery that had me in tears of happiness, love and thankfulness.

This story was written beautifully with descriptions of the mountains and wildlife so real I felt I was there experiencing it as well. Naomi has a talent for jewelry making that was gorgeously described that it made me want the own a piece.

Pamela Clare done an amazing job giving us a beautiful love story while giving Naomi love of a community, family and culture. Amazing!

The story had something for everyone. Action, romance, sex, family, tradition and for me it also gave me an education. I learned a lot about the Lakota nation and their way of life. All of the elements were integrated seamlessly and turned this story into a book could not put down.

I was impressed with the research gone into with the story. Pamela Clare has yet to write a story that I was disappointed with. Look forward to the next book.

Tempting Fate is a wonderful addition to the Colorado High Country Series. I just cannot express how much I love this series! This book is every bit as good as the previous three. I enjoyed the story of Chaska and Naomi and loved their characters! The storyline was a really good one, and it kept me riveted. The Rocky Mountain setting in this series is very appealing, and I really enjoy the backdrop of the Search and Rescue Team. You can't go wrong with the books in this series!

TL;DR: A GREAT STORY ABOUT NATIVE PEOPLES AND CULTURE THAT I REALLY ENJOYED

THE STORY:
Naomi lives a solitary life, and has taken some time from her busy jewelry business to spend some time alone in the Colorado mountains. Unfortunately, her relaxing vacation is cut short when two escaped cons from a nearby prison accost her and assault her. She manages to get away, but falls and injures herself. She's found the next day by Chaska, who is an emergency rescuer, his sister, and their "pet" wolf.

Chaska and his sister are members of the Lakota Nation, and slowly, Naomi begins to realize her roots are there, too. The story from there involves a lot of interesting aspects of tribal customs and ceremonies. Naomi gets a lot of questions about her past and future answered, along with the eventual capture of the two cons and a run-in with parts of Naomi's past that she'd rather not revisit.

TECHNICAL ELEMENTS:
The most interesting thing about this story to me was that there wasn't just one simple plot arc to follow. There were many threads that weaved concurrently around the two central characters, and the whole story was completely wonderful.

I am not native nor associated with native people, so I can't speak to the book's general sensitivity to and about native peoples. It seemed pretty well-rounded and not racist, but I don't feel like I'm a good judge of that. If the Lakota phrases and customs are real, then I think it's very interesting. There is an author's note in the final pages that explains the author's relationship to the Lakota nation that was also interesting.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
I really enjoyed all the aspects of this book, and the romance part of it was no exception. Chaska and Naomi were hot hot hot. I loved their romance and the love and friendship that developed between them. Just an altogether wonderful story and I look forward to reading more of this author's work.

This book started right off with a heart pounding experience when 27 year old Naomi is camping by herself in the Colorado mountains and two escape convicts approach her campsite. The next day, Chaska and his sister, Winona are walking Shota, a wolf rescue on the trails when Shota suddenly takes off. When they catch up to Shota, he is nudging an unconscious Naomi in need of medical attention. Chaska, being part of the local Search and Rescue team puts a call out for the team.

Naomi was very lucky. She fought off her captors and escaped but not before she suffers being shot at and breaking her ankle. What the author unveils for us from here is a beautiful and heartwarming tale of a town that comes together to help a stranger heal physically and financially, all the while Chaska and Naomi grow closer together.

I really enjoyed the small town setting and these wonderful people who care more about others than most of us experience in real life. It's the small town filled with people that we all wish we could find for ourselves. It trully added more to this story.

Chaska is hands down one of the best Hero's I've read. Not only was his physical description drool worthy, but the way the author described him as a human being was so much more appealing to me. He was such a kind, giving man. He's a true Lakota warrior with the way he takes care of anyone who needs it. He was not a womanizer and showed such respect for woman. Even put into a difficult situation with another woman, he handles it in such a way that had me falling for him even more.

I was fascinated with all the Native American culture details the author put into this story. I would suggest reading her authors note at the end of the book. I felt this one in my heart. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Pamela Clare strikes again and reminds me why I love her writing so much. When she began this new series about the sexy group of individuals dedicating their lives to rescuing those in need, while enjoying the rugged and adrenaline packed lifestyles of rock climbers, I was skeptical that she would make me love it. Honestly I have a crazy fear of heights and would never go anywhere near a rock climbing gym much less actually climbing those freaking deadly mountains, but she has made me a believer once again. I LOVE this series. This fourth installment also hit close to home because I have always wanted a chance to learn more about my native American heritage, but with such a physical and emotional distance for me, I just have to enjoy that adventure through stories and author’s like Pamela, so obviously devoted to authenticity and research, remind me why I fight so hard to make people understand the greatness of this genre. Chaska and Naomi meet under interesting circumstances, but the connection between them is instant and deep, leaving them both floundering a bit at the intensity. Soon though there is no denying that they are made for one another. I loved seeing Chaska fall in love with Naomi, sacrificing for her happiness, while always keeping in mind his duty to his team and his people. He is the perfect hero and I would love to have a chance to meet a man just like him… Hmmm maybe it’s time for a trip to Colorado, even though I am so not climbing anything… but I digress. Naomi was the perfect match for Chaska. While she has had a pretty shitty past, she maintains her fighting spirit, determined to make her own way in the world, but when she meets Chaska and his sister the draw is irresistible. Once he finds a way to not only steal her heart but discover the truth of her heritage and give her back her true family, I thought for sure she would destroy him, but the love she has is just too big to leave him wanting. Pamela as always finds a way to bring two people, that might never have found one another, together under amazing conditions, twining their pasts together and giving them a chance at a future that will give them true happiness and fulfillment. There is also the outstanding level of heat and passion between Chaska and Naomi that is a trademark of any Clare novel, but in my opinion this story went even higher with the connection between the H/h. I am dying for the next story in this amazing series and am definitely spreading the word that this series is one of the best romances out there and that if you’re not reading them then you’re not truly a Romance Junkie!

Naomi was a fighter , she had a hard life and no one to turn to. Naomi made jewelry and supported herself. Naomi does have a lot of insecurities. Naomi was vacationing in Colorado and met up with some bad people. Then Chaska discovered Naomi and he rescued her. Winona took Naomi in while she recovered. Chaska is part of a volunteer research and rescue team. Chaska is a Lakota Indian. Chaska was also an aerospace engineer. Winona ran a wildlife sanctuary and has a wolf named Shota. Winona and Chaska are not close to their parents but are close to their grandfather and called him” Old Man”. Naomi felt like she didn’t belong anywhere.
I absolutely loved this book. I loved how Naomi grew in this book. I love Chaska and Naomi’s relationship grew instead of just jumping in. This was a sweet and easy read that held my attention all the way through. I loved how the author weaved the Native American heritage namely Lakota’s in this book. I did choke up at times while reading this. I love the I loved there was some mystery and suspense mixed in with romance and history. I really loved how gentle and understanding Chaska was with Naomi. Winona and Old Man definitely added to this book. I love the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend.
