Description

One blind date. One case of mistaken identity. One Navy SEAL faced with his high school crush. What could go wrong?

To Score…

Holy cow, my blind date is rawr-hot. Everything in me aches to explore more with this man, but I can’t. I’ve got too much on the line professionally, with me starting at my new medical practice on shaky ground. But I can’t deny that I want the sex. A fling is perfect. Bonus—I will prove my idiot ex-boyfriend wrong. I’m not cold.

Or Not to Score…

Once she mistakes me for her blind date, my plan is clear. Be this Rick the Lawyer she thinks I am. And for the space of this coffee date, talk to the only woman who’s ever made me feel any spark outside of combat. Best case scenario, I get to be outside my skin—free to be whatever the hell I want. Worst case—she recognizes me as we chat. She’ll be pissed, call me an asshole, but it won’t be anything she hasn’t called me in the past, so… Win/Win?

Not having read anything by Ms Quarles prior to this book, I have to ask myself, "why not?" Her writing has created characters that are easy to relate to. She did a great job of bringing two broken people who have history, albeit not necessarily a good one when they were teenagers. Through a case of mistaken identity, the stage was for instant and explosive chemistry. Between Pepper's need to prove herself to maintain her job as a sports doctor, and Luke's fears of needing to prove himself for acceptance, these two have the perfect opportunity to help each other (though subliminally) by coming together to prove to each other they are more then their pasts. With humor and sexual charge, the author brought personality and dimension to the entire story. The supporting characters added to the core of the story in a soft yet important way. I hope that we haven't seen the end of these characters, there's a whole team that needs love interests, essentially Connor. This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

You had me from the opening when we have a case of mistaken identity and the overly paranoid Luke and how everything would work out in the end. I just needed to read this book in one sitting because curiousity almost killed me as to how things would end up. Pepper is so complicated and cute that i am rooting for her throughout the book. "Holy yummy presence, Batman" favorite line in the book, anytime you can reference Batman in a romance book especially by a leading lady you know it's going to be a good book. I can say that I have used that line a time or two since reading this book, Thanks for that! I love the way the author describes the game of Hurling. It sounds so rough and only really tough guys would even consider playing this game. So it beefs up my image of Luke and makes him even more rugged and manly in my mind as I read this book. Overall great writing and fun characters.

Earning It is the first book I have read by Angela Quarles but it won’t be my last. Pepper and Luke are relatable characters and their interaction and banter makes for a great love story. I look forward to reading more by this author and will recommend this to readers

I thought this was a cute, sweet romance. Enjoyed the characters and loved how Luke and Pepper came back into each other's lives due to a case of mistaken identity. They couldn't fight the overwhelming chemistry between them. And despite their backgrounds, doubts and insecurities, together they take a chance to find out what being in love is. I look forward to reading more in this series and hopefully more about Luke and Pepper.

I found “Earning It” because I adore Angela Quarles and am always eager to read her works. I first learned about this story when it was a part of the anthology “Some Like it Geek” and was super excited for a chance to reread it when it was made into a stand alone! I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review and I can honestly say I loved it! This story focuses on Pepper and Luke, high school acquaintances that reconnect as adults 15+ years later. I love that their adult meet cute moment is a case of mistaken identity. He remembers her, but she thinks he’s someone else. Things progress quickly *ahem* and you end up with a tangle of body parts, lies of omission, assumptions, and an agreement that this whole thing is a one day only experience. Yeah, like that will go according to plan! Once she learns who he is through a work experience, the knot begins to untangle and makes for a fantastic reading experience. Considering the long-novella-esque length, I felt that we got a lot of character development for Pepper and Luke, as well as the secondary characters. We learned what made them tick, as well as how their minds worked. Lots of introspection and thinking about their feelings for the other person. Plus a few hawt bedroom scenes. That thing in the car? HECK YEAH! Anyway, after the last two scenes, I have no doubt that these two will find their happily ever after. The story also heavily features the sport Irish Hurling and, after watching a few youtube videos, I am a huge fan. It is a mash up of field hockey, lacrosse, volleyball, rugby and pretty much every other contact sport you can think of. This sport, much like Angela Quarles writing style, is guaranteed to take you on a fun adventure. So, go give this book a read. You’re going to love it!

What can I say, this was remarkably funny and very, very sexy, i've read Angela's time travel series and I like them so imagine my delight in finding out she wrote this excellent story, which by the way, is a short so you can read it whilst having a coffee or glass of wine, whichever takes your fancy. I received an ARC from Netgalley and voluntarily leave my own opinion

My Review: This is a short book, but it's filled with so much great story. I really liked this one. The best thing about it was being in Luke's pov and just how much he was torn by how their meet-cute happened. See, Luke and Pepper went to school together. He always had a crush on her. She always thought he was a jerk. But there was so much more going on in Luke's life than Pepper ever realized. So, when she mistakes him for her blind date (yes, he's changed a LOT since high school), he goes for it because he desperately wants another chance to make a first impression on Pepper. And then things just kind of run away from Luke. He truly didn't mean for any of that to happen. And when it all comes out, Pepper is furious and humiliated. It's a GREAT story and meeting between the two of them. I really liked it and especially how all that played against the history Pepper had with dating clients (something that neither Luke nor she realized at the time that they met, either). This is a quick read, but it's incredibly emotionally satisfying. It also features a new sport that I've never heard of, but need to seriously check out because it sounds really sexy. I thoroughly enjoyed this first little story and am intrigued with where Angela Quarles plans to take the rest of the series. Wherever it goes, I plan to read it. This is a definite recommend, especially if you only have time for a couple of hours to read. I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
