Description

ABC Color pairs learning about lesser known colors with vibrant illustrations and the alphabet for a comprehensive, educational, and fun board book for young kids.

ABC Color combines learning the alphabet with several lesser known colors for an educational and fun board book for young children. Each page of this beautifully illustrated book features a different letter and little-known color, so children can learn about both topics at one time! Perfect for future artists and finger painters, soon they'll learn that A is for Apricot, B is for Burgundy, and C is for Chartreuse!

Parents will love spending time with their kids as they learn, and they might even learn a few new colors themselves. Plus, young children and slightly older kids alike will have something to learn, whether it be the basics of the alphabet, what the base color is (burgundy is very similar to dark red, after all), or what the more complicated color combinations are!

"A perfect introduction to combining (and naming) more sophisticated and creative hues." —Lee Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute

The Little Concepts series helps young readers learn their ABCs with adorable illustrations featuring unique animals, colors, languages, and even healthy foods. From A to Z, learning the alphabet (even in Spanish and French!) has never been so surprising and engaging.

Wow what a brightly-coloured book! A great introduction to lots of different colours, admittedly quite a few that I hadn't even heard of myself! I do wonder if so many different hues is above the intellectual need of a young child, however I suppose it can't harm to be teaching above and beyond the basic colour palette used in schools. The book is quite simply an explosion of colour, and asides from introducing so many colours, it's a great way of reinforcing the alphabet.

I loved everything about this book. The introduction of lesser known but gorgeous colors was an excellent idea. The pairing of specific colors on pages made the book beautiful. I think this will be a great gift to give to new babies or to incorporate into a study on art and colors. Looking forward to pub date for this title!

This is a sweet book for toddlers. It does a good job of working through the alphabet using colors and bright illustrations that will catch even those with a short attention span.

Xanadu?? Zomp??* How was I heretofore oblivious of these colors?!? See, even adults can learn new things from board books meant for toddlers! I've always loved quirky colors and the quirky names that come with those colors, so I was excited to get the opportunity to review this.

I love the concept of this book--teaching little ones that there are so many more colors than the basic six color wheel, presenting these "new" colors to them in fun graphics and patterns. Two colors/letters are paired on one page, with an illustration combining those two colors filling the facing page. The style of these illustrations is bold and sharp, and the patterns are not only pretty, but are also subtly mirrored in the illustrations. (You can see a few example pages on Amazon.) Although the colors aren't individually presented, the values and hues of the two that are together are quite different so that they both fully stand out and there's no confusion or color theory trickery. The full list of colors in the back is also lovely and would make an awesome poster, especially if you have an art corner set up for your little artists.

Having a precocious vocabulary in regards to colors, and by extent, being able to recognize the differences and variety of colors, is something I think fosters creativity, recognition, and observation. While being able to say "That's not green, that's chartreuse!" certainly won't solve any of the world's problems, it still teaches kids to see the nuances of the world and live a more color-filled life.

This book, and a box of the full set of Crayola crayons, would be an amazingly fun, art-inspiring gift for a little one. Or for an older kid who just loves colors!

*Read a tad bit about Xanadu and 10 other quirky color names at this great Mental Floss article (http://mentalfloss.com/article/53121/11-colors-youve-probably-never-heard). I unfortunately wasn't able to find much more than a brief, two line Wikipedia seb-section about Zomp :/ Smaragine from the article above seems pretty close to Zomp though.

(Review to be posted on my blog & Goodreads closer to publication.)

Okay, so after reading this book I actually went on line and googled Zomp and Xanadu to see if they were real and they are. The idea of this book is wonderful, and I am sure that it could be used in art classes with students much older than those that a board book would typically be used with.

Each colour is paired with a letter and then there is an illustration. These are not your regular colours everyone knows, but many are familiar such as apricot. The illustrations are bold and obviously colourful. There is a full list of all the colours presented at the back of the book. This would be a great book to use in art lessons where you are teaching about hues, mixing colours etc. The added alphabet will assist the little ones in those sounds and letter recognition in a colourful non-traditional way.

Simple fun color book that goes way beyond ROGYBIV. There is a color for every letter of the alphabet including Zomp, Eggplant, and Xanadu. Great and simple illustrations show off the where one might see these colors in everyday life.

An alphabetical picture book featuring colors often skipped in the typical color picture book. Each spread features two colors and an illustration that primarily features those colors. The last spread shows all 26 colors and their names again.

Wow, they definitely went on beyond orange and violet for this one! I even learned some new color names I had never heard before. (Anyone familiar with razzmatazz or zomp?) This will definitely expand your child's/student’s color vocabulary (and adults too…if you have this at home you may want to send this book to school with your kid so the teacher gets clued in before someone is massively confused). Definitely recommending our elementary library to purchase this and may have to get it for some nieces too. Oh, and the illustrations are cute on top of being uniquely colorful.

Most kids learn your standard red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple, but what about all of those other colors out in the world?

ABC Color Apricot, Burgundy & Chartreuse has fantastic illustrations that take kids on a color-filled journey through the alphabet. From apricot to jade, umber to zomp you're sure to learn a few new colors alongside your kids.

Illustrated to attract a young child, the advanced colours chosen to identify the alphabet are way beyond what most younger children and even many adults will ever want or need. But, with that being said, there is never any harm in expanding a youngsters vocabulary by introducing a more complex concept that red isn't always called red, nor is marigold always a flower. As for jade, quartz, turquoise and razzamatazz, well they are cool words whatever the colour they are attached to.

This is a great book for early childhood educators and parents of toddlers. The bright and fun illustrations welcome the children to learn not only their basic colors but "new" colors, showing the wide diversity of colors in our world. This board book will make a great gift.

A lovely ABC book featuring lesser-known colors like chartreuse, razzmatazz, and persimmon. A great way to teach kids the words for differing shades of primary colors.
