The Flower-Powered Garden Supercharge Your Borders and Containers with Bold, Colourful Plant Combinations by Andy Vernon
This book is all about color and the combinations you can put into your garden.
Starts out with how the author acquired his love of the plants from his grandfather. There are color collections shown and summaries of each of them. What I really liked was the authors own special
collection and he tells about how to grow each from various methods, how to tend to them and keep them through the cold months.
So much to learn from this book, excellent resource book to keep on hand.
Received this review copy via Timber Press via Netgalley and this is my honest opinion.

4.5 Stars

This is a fabulous book for gardeners looking to develop color themes in their garden. With an impressive selection of seasonal (early, late) perennial blooms supplemented by some annuals, this book is dense with instructions, suggestions, and ideas. After a generous number of color scheme suggestions, Vernon offers what he terms a florapedia organized by color, to further assist the gardener in planning.

What is lacking in this book is a sense of planning for scale. The florapedia has no information about the height of the various flowers, only colors and sun/shade requirements. Unless you know that pansies are groundcover height and hollyhocks can be five to six feet tall, you are not going to have the best sense of what should go where, especially if you are planting seedlings. Aside from that fault, this is a fabulous book for inspiring a floral garden.

The Flower-Powered Garden is another wonderful book by Timber Press. It will be published on February 12 2018.
Written by a real passionate of the topic Mr. Andy Vernon, this time this book will let us discover the world of flowers thanks to a passion firstly developed and inherited by the author thanks to his grand-dad.

Starting from bed flowers, we will learn how to embellish our little or big corners of our house using a mixture of various, diversified flowers for creating a wonderful and stunning mix of colors in grade to bring harmony and joy in our existence and in the one of our dear ones in every season of the year.
Because flowers are first of all color! and they donate a poetic vision in grade to give to everyone peace. We will also learn how to be more creative with our seeds, flowers, how to choose the best soil, avoiding possible illness of flowers, how to grow a plant from seed or bulb to adult age. We will also understand that after all the problem of space with flowers is not so important. Yes, we will discover that we can plant flowers wherever we want, because there is no need to have a precise space for flowers just the fantasy of planting them.

At the end a section including a selection of flowers you can think of planting in your garden!

Your garden won't be anymore the same one if you will follow the instructions of Vernon!

Highly recommended!

I thank NetGalley and Timber Press for the eBook!

Dare to be bold:
This book has been written by a man who is passionate about flowers and the firework of colors they display when they are artfully combined in flower beds and other arrangements. In this book he suggests the reader to play with colors in the garden. For that he offers different themed color combinations that are sure to please the eyes. Each theme comes with an array of long flowering plant suggestions that, when combined, can sustain the color theme throughout the flowering season from spring to fall. All plants are featured with color photographs. The book is well rounded. In the beginning of the book, Andy Vernon talks about proper plant propagation and care. In the middle he features the different color themes. In the last third of the book he describes the individual plants. Personally, I am drawn to the royal velvet theme with its strong reds, violets and purples. Those colors will go on display in my front yard this spring.

Lots of information for those wishing to experiment with flower bed design. Horticultural advice for the uk only. Plants listed include Australian invasive weeds such as lantana which has cost Australian tax payers millions for its removal from native forests. Therefore not suitable for the Australian market. Lovely photographs throughout.

This is a wonderful book that will help me grow and enjoy flowers -- the only problem is now I want to have ALL the flowers EVERYWHERE in my yard (which is more than I can accomplish in a single growing season).
