Sadia

Sadia is an inspiring story that offers a unique perspective of how three Muslim girls experience their lives in different ways based on their families and what they went through before arriving to Canada. 

As someone who is also new to Canada and who comes from a country where there's a high percentage of Catholic population, I was pleasantly surprised of how diverse Canada, or at least Toronto (where I'm living), is. Not only regarding religion but also sexual preference, gender identity and more. It's taught me a lot, made me more open minded, empathetic, and happy of the country I chose to move to.

Of course my experience doesn't compare with what Sadia and her friends go through in the book, so I loved reading about their stories, their background and the problems they have to face. These are girls I ended up admiring deeply for their courage and vulnerability. They along with a fantastic group of supporting characters, let you know that there's more to each person than what meets the eye. 

Now, could we pretty please get a companion novel with Amira's POV? 

*SPOILERS*

My only issue with the book was how much Sadia criticized Nazreen for taking off her hijab. I'm still learning about Muslims so I'm not sure if I'm right but I thought that wearing a hijab was a choice and since Sadia wanted to be accepted and respected to play basketball while wearing hers, I thought she would offer the same respect and acceptance to her friend for not wanting to wear one.
