Description

MENO-Vations: a.k.a. Menopause Motivations: Helping to Color Your Menopause Perspective with Art and Attitude
We all experience and relate to things differently, and menopause is no exception. In this book, MENO-Vations, we share real thoughts on menopause, offer suggested actions to cope, and provide vibrant art and blank space to encourage personal reflection. We call these thoughts MENO-Vations—a.k.a. menopause motivations.

MENO-Vations is designed to help us connect and look at ourselves and the menopause journey with humor and positivity. It allows us to incorporate the reality of womanly changes and the beauty and subjectivity of art into daily motivation.

Take a few minutes each day to relax; refl ect on a topic, along with the associated painting; and relate them to you and your experiences. Before you know it, you are smiling and unbothered at the thought of a menopausal inconvenience.

MENO-Vations is perfect for women’s book clubs and small-group discussions that want to share perspectives, laugh, and deepen common bonds.

If you or someone you know is approaching, going through, or can remember the “joys” of menopause, this unique book is a must! From hot fl ashes to forgetfulness, menopause is full of challenges that are best managed with a positive attitude. Take time for a bit of MENO-Vations each day and let its contents motivate you to strut through menopause with humor and art.

"A meditation journal to help women through a tough transition in life is useful, to be sure, but what elevates MENO-Vations beyond just a journal is the energizing artwork that enables the reader to meet challenges with a positive outlook (and some sass).” Cathy Bernardy Jones, Editor, Dog Ear Publishing

Meno-Vations....menopause motivations, in words and artwork. How could I resist this book? The subtitle is great too - “Helping to Colour Your Menopause Perspective with Art and Attitude.” What’s not to love about that?

At nearly 50, I haven’t had too many of the symptoms described here (so far), but I can definitely recognise a few only too well. I like to think I’m embracing ageing so far... I love the increased confidence and take-no-s**t attitude that getting older has brought. It’s not always plain sailing, though, and Meno-Vations explores some of the downsides in a very creative and innovative way.

This book is a collaboration between Cynthia King (thoughts) and Angela Walker (art). Brief reflections and practical tips on various aspects of menopause are accompanied by Angela’s gorgeous, colourful paintings, which I loved. Each section has a keyword (e.g. “Adapt.” “Uninhibited.” “Energized.”) and space for personal reflection. There is plenty of food for thought here - and evidence that we are not alone in whatever we are experiencing! The authors suggest reading one thought a day - I didn’t do this, I read them all, but I will definitely return often to sections and paintings.

If you are looking for an in depth guide to the signs and symptoms of menopause, this is not your book, nor is it meant to be. Each section is very short. But it would work great as a complement to such a book.

Because of the artwork and the spaces for readers to make their own notes, I think this would ideally be read in physical rather than e-book format, although it worked well for me on an iPad.

Affirming, inclusive and both thought- and (often) smile-provoking... I think this beautiful book will reward a lot of re-reading.
