Description
Signe and Rune Carlson are thrilled to welcome Nilda and Ivar to America, but life on the farm remains a struggle. Though Gerd has softened and grown to love the Carlson family, Einar is still harsh and unforgiving, obsessed solely with felling as many trees as possible. Rune is trying to build a new home for his wife and children, but Einar refuses to help and forbids anyone from the nearby community from stepping foot on his land. What dark secret must lie in his past to have caused him to isolate himself--and anyone living under his roof--in this way? When a tragedy lays the truth bare, the Carlsons and Strands will have to come together like never before and become a true family.

I could tell this book was well written, and I know Lauraine Snelling is an amazing author. But I tried a few times to get into this book. I don't know if it's because I was reading the second book in the series, or if it's because the main character's name was Gerd... which is also an acid reflux condition... which I have, so it just reminded me over and over again of my issue. It was also just hard for me to keep track of the characters.
I could see things vividly, however, and I loved how she described the scenes, and how the characters spoke. You can also tell that she researched well.
Lauraine Snelling has done it once again!
Her writing is just unshakable! She once again brings us family business, hard work and learning to live in a new country
There's some hardness on family issues and can the new family members learn to get along or even forgive?
Bitterness, people who don't want to forgive it just tends to eat them up inside of themselves. In other words it only hurts that person.
I loved living on the frontier farm with this family but I really wanted to shake Einar and especially Gerd! Oh my!!
I don't understand why they're so hard to live with! Or their ways!
. With his hardheadness a d meanness it really made it hard for the rest of his family.
This story made me shake my head in so many scenes!
You can tell the author has done her research! I love that about her!
I recommend this book. NO compensations were received. All opinions are my own. Thank you Netgalley!
