Description

The Haunted History of Huntingdonshire explores many of the county's ghosts, myths and legends. The book provides a comprehensive collection of ghost stories, along with a wealth of historical quirky facts relating to each haunted location.

This is an honest account into the paranormal and the history of the county. The author takes a balanced view and if nothing happens in an investigation then he will say so, but if something does happen prepare to be surprised.

The book has over 300 unique illustrations (mostly in colour) and is a beautiful coffee table book. Already selling well in the UK and the USA, this is a fine addition to the NetGalley canon.

Advance Praise

"I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a First Edition of this book, and am over half way through it already. As one person who has reviewed the book already has commented, the odd spelling mistake but that's not a problem. A brilliant book so far - Mr. Egerton has obviously put a huge amount of effort into researching this book and putting it together. The photographs (almost 300) are a great addition to the stories featured, and apart from the Hauntings he mentions in each location, I found this book to be a fascinating insight into the history of the area as well." Amazon review. 5 stars.

"What a fantastic read! Some fascinating stories based on actual experiences from the author Mark Egerton, plus wonderfully detailed unique accounts from local people. Obviously well researched and beautifully written. The amazing illustrations and photography just take you right there. Would highly recommend." - Lee-ann Clarke

'Very Impressed with this book. I have the A4 size version with its lovely pictures. Well worth getting your hands on a copy of this.' - Amazon - 5 star review.

I can honestly say I have stepped out of my comfort zone with this read. I usually stay clear of paranormal stories and I’m not too keen on non fiction so now your asking why I’ve read it. Well I live in Bedfordshire which is the county next to Huntingdonshire where this book is written about.

This is an A4 sized book with plenty of pages to dig into. I found myself reading a few chapters each time I picked it up. The photos and illustrations are fantastic.

Great praise to the author on writing this story. He’s written it in such a way that a lay person like myself can read and enjoy. There’s a great wealth of information in this book that I found very interesting.

I can honestly say I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

Disclaimer: ARC via Netgalley

In fairness, I should not that this book committed one of my pet peeves – the use of whilst. Seriously, people need to stop with that.
That aside, this is a pretty good little book about the haunted areas of Huntingdonshire. Egerton covers a wide variety of places and different types of haunts. He also does the research and leg work into the stories, spending as much time the library or with local historians as camping out for the ghosts.
The style is light and enjoyable. You never feel like you are being given a history lecture or trying to be convert to “ghosts are real and you better believe”. There is a certain joy and wonder to Egerton’s style that transmits quite easily to the reader. He also gives you enough information for a reader to find the places.
Nicely done.

I love a good ghost story, and one based on real events is even better. Egerton explores the haunts of this British county (and there are a lot!), and he does it in a way that will appeal to people who like a little history with their goosebumps. Real information about real people and real places is given, along with the purported hauntings and the author’s impression and experiences at each location. I really enjoyed this book, it’s an intelligent person’s guide to ghostly (or not) locations

I am pleasantly surprised by the quality, content and style of this book on British hauntings. This is a subject often wrangled by quickie authors who haven't got much to add but in this case the author has really endeavored to clearly describe personal parapsychological experiences. When he gets into a particular incident he writes with detail. He lets us know what others have said or felt as well. He doesn't force us to read page after page of attempts to communicate that lead to nothing,. He supplies history as well and in the UK there's plenty of history to know. I was entertained by the book and inspired to go see some things for myself. Lastly, the author includes many excellent photographs. Well done.
