I received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

Wow this book is cool on so many levels. The recipes themselves were pretty great- lots of new ideas and instructions to make syrups and other mixers (I am definitely trying out the Pink Peppercorn syrup) that are not easy to find.
I love that all of the recipes are from female bartenders, as I think they are often overlooked. Really inventive ideas.
I also liked how the drinks were paired with a famous woman's story. Very rad, however I am unsure if some of these ladies would appreciate being paired with a boozy drink. HOWEVER I think it is very important to tell these stories: there were a few in there that I hadn't heard of.
Definitely worth checking out!

This is a more than just a bartender's guide (although the recipes are unique and look really good)..It is also a showcase of talented female bartenders, and a tribute to amazing women past and present.

Enjoyable to browse through for the cocktails recipes, or for inspiration for creating new drinks, but really wonderful to learn more about extraordinary women in herstory,.

Oh, I have never cursed my rural existence more than I have after reading this book. It's hours to the nearest bar that could produce these drinks and there are soooooo many I would love to try!

Divided by liquor, these drink are by women, inspired by women, and unique! They all sound delicious, but most are far too intense for the home cocktail artist. Don't expect to make these at home, but if you're going to drink them, you should be drinking in the company of other interesting women anyway!

It was also interesting to see profiles of lots of women that I had never heard of before - along with some famous ones. Great concept, great book!

Fabulous read. Interesting recipes and very hard to put down! Great book to give as a gift. Thank you for the read.

That's a great book not only because of the cocktail recipes, but also because all the recipes are by female bartenders, which showcases their talent and it would be an amazing gift.

This is a beautiful coffee table book. It has some interesting stories of women from distant and modern history paired with beautiful cocktail recipes. Each recipe has been created by a talented female bartender to embody the spirit of the subject of the story.

Drinking Like Ladies is a unique cocktail book focused on famous women from history and dedicating a cocktail in their name. There are 75 different cocktails within the book with the main ingredient ranging from Gin, Whiskey, Rum, Agave, Vodka, cognac and ending with punch and low alcohol tipples so there is something to suit everyone.

To start with there is a nice guide to the essential things you will need to make the cocktails including the main spirits, garnishes, glassware and mixers along with some mixology terms that people who are new to the cocktails world may not have come across before.

Each of the cocktails in the book are named after different women throughout history, with their story then a cocktail that has a related name to the person plus a lovely illustration of each person on their page. There are some that I already like the person so was more drawn to the cocktail such as the Princess Diana cocktail ‘Park House’ or Lili Elbe ‘The Danish Girl’ but in other cases, I really enjoyed finding out about the people.

There are only a few main drawbacks I found with the book, there aren’t really any simple cocktails that could be used as a starter cocktail so you’d have to be rather serious with the cocktail making plus it would take a bit of investment if you were hoping to try a few from home.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the digital advanced copy of Drinking Like Ladies. I enjoyed reading the descriptions of the various women and I think it’s an inventive book. But as much as I love fussy recipes, there were few cocktails in here that I could recreate without major effort in sourcing materials. I might try a few of the rum recipes (we are mai tai fans in my friend set), but overall this is more of a coffee table book to flip through in the bar than a practical recipe compendium. I am glad the authors were able to publish this after much effort, even if it’s not quite to my taste.

This is such a fun book! Insights into various female characters throughout history and drinks to go along with them. My bar is expanding already as I buy the ingredients for the especially interesting prohibition era cocktails.

I was not prepared for how fantastic Drinking Like Ladies is as both a coffee table book and a cocktail recipe book. More than just a bartender's guide to incredibly unique cocktails, Drinking Like Ladies features women who have left a lasting impression on the world. From spies to Princess Diana, the book features women from all over the world and the difficult tasks they faced head on in spite of what was expected of them. There is Mary Coffin Ware Dennet, a social reformer I did not previous know of, and of course, a page dedicated to Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the aptly named When There Are 9! cocktail. Along with each woman's short biography is a note from the bartender that created the well-themed drink, a nice touch I appreciated that made the drinks feel more personal.

Ultimately, many of the ingredients or tasks to make the cocktails require more bartending knowledge and ingredient access than I have. My friends and I have set out to try to create as many as we can, but I certainly will need to do extra research to complete some of them properly. That said, all sound fantastic and I was very impressed with the detail given to describing each liquor base and the flavoring it brings to a cocktail. Blossom & Six is at the top of my list to try, but I'll probably be distracted when I open the book by the gorgeous pages and the incredible history held within.

Thank to Misty Kalkofen, Kirsten Amann, Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry, Quarto Books, and Netgalley for the advanced reader copy of “Drinking Like Ladies: 75 modern cocktails from the world's leading female bartenders; Includes toasts to extraordinary women in history” for an honest review.

I knew from the moment I saw this cover and read its title that I was bound for the world of being header heels in love with. Book about good drinks? Check. By *leading women* in the field? Check. With toasts to *extraordinary women* throughout history? Check.

This had gold written all of it. Or it had the makings of a big flop of disappointment.Thankfully to say, it was the prior. This book turned out to meet all my dreams and exceed them from there.

The beginning starts with how the book came into formation and then a short, sweet, but very detailed 101 on essential spirits, mixers, mixology, tools, garnishes, and glassware. Then its broken down into the sections of types of drinks: gun, whiskey, rum, agave, vodka, cognac, brandy, pisco, and punch.

And those toasts we spoke of? To the women of history? They. Are. Amazing. And on top of that? There’s a gorgeous drawing of the women in history to go with the well-written, always about half a page background detailing all about them. As well as quote. Or a saying about them.

This is an amazing production and I cannot wait to both own it and buy it for those wonderful girls in my life who would so appreciate it.

Thank you Quarto books for sharing the e-galley of Drinking Like Ladies with me in exchange for an honest review. Such a wonderful idea for a cocktail book! Each recipe is inspired by a famous woman in history. There is a short but very informative bio next to each recipe created by some of the world’s leading female bartenders. The recipes are complex and more like you would find in an upscale bar than at home but they are delicious. More aimed for special occasions and girl’s night at home than everyday, this is a fun book to flip through and taste test!

A wonderful mix of history and drink.

An extensive variety of mixed drinks with links to important women in history.

It might seem odd that I would recommend this for reading clubs, but there are short biographies of the women who inspired the beverages contained in its pages. Why should librarians be interested? Because our brilliant Librarian of Congress Dr, Carla Hayden has her very own drink!

Creative and professional recipes of cocktails where the creators were inspired by incredible woman such as Princess Diana and THE BRETON WOMEN OF THE FRENCH RESISTANCE. This is a good book to use this summer.

I think the idea behind this book is genius - presenting awesome cocktails created by female bartenders inspired by some great women from history? Yes, please! While reading this book we meet spies, queens, princesses, mothers, activists, inventors, and Betty White - oh, I was so happy when I saw a vodka cocktail and Betty White!

I like cocktails, I like great women. This would totally make a good manual for a Drink and Discuss Inspiring Women Club! And it was a great challenge for the bartenders to find specific ingredients to capture the essences of these awesome women.

My biggest complain is that... the short bio we get on each woman is a bit bland. I did not hear of many of the women presented in this book and I am glad I got to meet them, but I wanted something a bit more than a bio. My problem is not with the short biography, but the writing style. A bit more entertaining and this book might have snatched another star.

I love this title. Broken down into your basic to drink making and then by each type of liquor it's easy to flip through. Then for each cocktail you make you'll have a fascinating story to read about amazing women in history. This book could be a great gift for any of your girlfriends or for an interesting coffee table book.

I loved this. The drinks sound great and I loved all the stories about the awesome women. Can’t wait to make these drinks.

This is a delightful mix of cocktails and historically renowned women. There are seven chapters titled Gin;Whisky/Whiskey; Rum; Agave; Vodka; Cognac, Brandy, and Pisco and Punch and Low-alcohol tipples with a total of seventy five cocktails. After explaining the essential spirits, mixers, mixology, tools, garnishes and glassware the first chapter focuses on gin cocktails. The first cocktail is called 'Warne-ing Shot' after Kate Warne, detective. A brief history of her achievements are given alongside her cocktail. Each cocktail is attached to and named after women from history and their story.
A lovely book to browse but also a fantastic selection of cocktails to choose from. Many of the women I had not heard of but all had an interesting story. I think you would need a massive cocktail cabinet to contain all of the ingredients mentioned, but being selective you could have a lot of fun testing out the ones that appeal most to you.
Thank you to Net Galley for a ARC.

I loved how this book took important women from history and named cocktails after them. I loved that there were some lesser known women featured, not just the obvious names you think of when thinking of women who have made an impact. The drinks look yummy, so I will definitely be making them in the future!

What an AMAZING IDEA! A compilation of delicious drink recipes paired with a short biography on wonderful empowered women. How can you go wrong?!
The drink recipes were very comprehensive, there were a couple that had ingredients that would be hard to find in my area, so they would be a little difficult to make, sadly. But, they are set out in a very easy to follow format, and the short biographies on the women were really interesting!
I would definitely recommend this book to any drinkers, or anyone who just needs to be reminded that there are women out there who were/or are wonderfully intelligent and strong.

I didn’t know how much I’d love this book. In addition to the gorgeous recipes, this book really celebrates women. I think I’ll end up buying a hardcover copy to have on my coffee table and to use at home.
