5 Stars!!
“Phatty was perched with his big belly balanced atop his favorite army-green armchair. His fat-or, as he called it his ‘splendid undercarriage'- hung over the sides of the chair like excess dough that had been squished out of a baker’s pan. He let out a deep, relaxing yawn, followed by his typical gymnast stretch, his front and back paws extending. Then, as quickly as the stretch began, Phatty released it, and his legs once again dangled down. Although it was certainly not the most flattering position for a cat of his size and stature, Phatty felt like a king.”

I am one of the biggest cat lovers you will meet. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to read this when the publisher offered it to me for review. Also…as a teacher….it’s a story about bullying and I think it’s important. It has some really cute pictures too! WIN!

Phatty is a big kitty at 30 lbs, who likes to spend his days chilling on the back of the chair and looking out his window at the goings on of Central Park. He lives with his brother, Clyde who is brave and fearless.

He is pretty content with life as he knows it until one day the meanest hawk he could ever meet, Crawler, makes an announcement that he is coming for Phatty and his animal friends. Crawler has been bullied himself and is striking out. Along with his super smart cat friend, Payaso,(who can open doors) Phatty must overcome his fears and set out on an adventure to put all to right for himself and his little fur friends. The story is cute, imaginative, humorous as well as hopeful. I enjoyed it and think kids will too. I especially loved the drawings in this sweet chapter book.

Many thanks to the publisher, iUniverse and the author, Marie Unanue for a digital copy provided through NetGalley to read in exchange for a review. Highly recommended! Grab a copy! Comes out August 24, 2018.

Princess Fuzzypants here: I absolutely fell in love with this book from the first page to the last. I adored Phatty. He is admirably aided by his brothers Clyde and Stanley and his best friend, Payaso. He lives high up in an apartment that over looks Central Park in NYC. He is a sweet, kind and generous cat who is being tormented by a hawk who threatens his home and his family. Phatty is a cowardly kitty until he feels he must defend those he loves and sets out on an adventure that will change the lives of many and their perceptions of both him, themselves and the world.
He meets many new friends along the way from a young “special” boy who can communicate with animals to a raccoon, a turtle, and a bird before he confronts his nemesis. As Phatty learns to value himself, he teaches others, including the reader, about things that truly matter. He shows that being different is not bad. He teaches that kindness is more powerful than cruelty. And mostly he shows that we may never know our own strength until we test it.
There are delightful drawings that accompany the story. It is just a charmingn story that is sure to become a favourite of its readers.
I give it five rousing purrs and two paws up.

This engaging book, with sweet black and white illustrations of Phatty the cat and his best friend Payaso, teaches children six essential life skills: curiosity, gratitude, grit, self-control, social intelligence, and zest. While the furry pals go on a madcap adventure, they also learn about the importance of kindness, teamwork, courage, and forgiveness. 5/5

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.
