Description

From the ashes, a legend will rise.

Amidst an eternal war between good and evil, headstrong Sofia explores the afterlife in search of her lost past in this illustrated dark fantasy epic.

. . .

Washed ashore on a desolate beach, Sofia arrives in the afterlife with no memories—only nightmares, and a darkness within her she cannot explain. As Sofia wanders the timeless world of the Orvida in search of answers, she discovers it is no eternal of paradise. Within the shadows of sprawling vistas amass the imuertes, the lost souls of the damned.

After a chance encounter with the Ebrahym, a mysterious, winged Sanguinir warrior, Sofia is drawn into a conflict a millennium in the making. Now, caught between the wary eye of the angelic Host, and the growing threat of the imuertes driven to war by a newly ascended lord, Sofia must find the strength to face the enemy at the gates—and the demons that lurk within.

'From the ashes, a legend will rise.

Mercer succeeds in creating and ethereal, mysterious atmosphere.
I like the authors imagining of an afterlife that isn't 'sunshine-and-daisies' but rather 'a-lot-of-blood-and-violence.'

My biggest issue was a feeling of never quite comprehending how it came to be or what Sofias backstory was. I understand that it's meant to be mysterious, like I said, that is one of this novels strengths, however, I personally have a preference for character driven stories and there wasn't enough information to remain fully invested in Sofia as a character throughout.

Regardless, this is a very well written novel and I'd recommend 'All That Will Burn' for fantasy fans who are interested in angels and demons with a twist (And some truly stunning artwork to accompany it.)

"From The Ashes A Legend Will Rise".

I mean between that, the title and the book cover I was like okay let's do this.

Its got great suspense. Loved Sofia as a character and the world building is amazing. Would definitely recommend!!

This was great fun! I loved the beginning, an excellent example of how to write a character that has no idea of what is going on without confusing or annoying the reader.
Sophia awakens in the sea, with no memory but a name. This is then the story of what she does next, and what she finds out.
A very simple premise, but then you're drawn into a large scale fantasy novel with beautiful and madly colourful winged creatures and depraved and twisted beasts. Splendid!
I loved the descriptions, the vivid imaging of the world, and the illustrations were superb.
A highly recommended adventure of one person struggling to make sense of the place she finds herself in.
My only quibble is that the ending was a little weak, after such excellent exposition. Bordering on trite. But! Nevertheless, a highly successful read.

Amazing! I'm not the biggest fan of fantasy but the concept was so interesting and I loved how the story went.

Thankyou to NetGalley and the author, Judd Mercer, for the opportunity to read a digital copy of All That Will Burn in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.
I found the storyline to be well written and interesting. I liked the character build with Sofia. Overall, it was a good story but for me, I felt something was missing.
Worth a read for fans of the genre.

This is a story of a woman named Sofia who enters a different world. Her encounters in the world are unlike anything I've ever read with different creatures and beings. She spends most of the story understanding where she is and why she's there. Although Sofia interacts with several people, the story never fully embraces another character until the very end. The first 50 pages lock you into Sofia. The story is breathtaking at first. However, the rest of the book lacks detail and transitions to help the reader fully understand the story of the Afore. Towards the end, the story bounces a little too quickly. It was hard to keep reading the short bursts of storyline. This story brings a new depth to life after death. You won't put the book down at first. Hang in there for the middle because the end leaves you thinking about life and death in many ways.
