Description

There’s a fine line between love and hate. And these two can’t decide which side they’re really on. . . .

Poetry professor Naomi Price is loved by her students, happily works around the clock, and has credentials no one could deny. Except, it seems, for her arch-nemesis at Hainamor University. The man never has anything polite to say, and now the two of them are competing for a prestigious honor that just so happens to come with a cash award. With every move Naomi makes to impress her colleagues, her rival is right there beside her, elbow to elbow, making it impossible to ignore how devastatingly hot he is—even if he is a total bastard.

Sebastian Blake knows what Naomi thinks of him, and he’s trying hard not to care. Maybe he’s been grouchy with her in the past, but she isn’t making his life any easier with her crusade to win over the Personnel Committee and earn an honor that is rightfully his. Naomi just doesn’t quit, and though he’d never admit it, there’s something sexy about her. Something that has him tied up in knots. Something that makes him want to move beyond his painful past and take a chance—at least for as long as it takes to kiss her silly and see what happens next.

Warning: Intense bickering leads to intense sexual chemistry!

I Hate You, I Love You follows English professors Naomi Price and Sebastian Blake as their office rivalry gets kicked up another level after being nominated for an award with a huge prize. They've always gotten under each others' skin and thrive on the daily banter, but being forced to work closer together makes them realize that the other may be just what they need to heal old scars.

I went into this super hype because it gave me major The Hating Game vibes. Office rivalry and sexual tension, I was all in, man. And for the most part, it was enjoyable. Unfortunately, I think it suffered from my constant comparisons to The Hating Game. It was too similar and it kept coming up short (which is not necessarily it's fault, as The Hating Game is my favorite romance of all time).

While I enjoyed the characters and their banter was top notch, the intensity of the rivalry felt over the top at times. In addition, while the delving into Sebastian's history and personal demons was done really well, the exploration of Naomi's past was done in a very last minute "oh wait, she needs a tragic history too, let's just throw this one scene in here" kind of way, which disappointed me, especially because it didn't really come up after that one scene.

Overall, I enjoyed this book but I doubt it will stick in my mind like The Hating Game has. Whether it fell short because of my constant comparisons or because it genuinely was just average, I can't be positive, but I read it in two sittings and it was definitely fun while it lasted. I just would prefer to recommend The Hating Game to anyone wanting a good office rivalry romance.
