After reading this latest whodunit, Detective Joi Summers performance raises her to the level of all time great detectives. Her character and kick butt attitude puts her up there with the neuroticism of Brenda Leigh Johnson of The Closer, the steeliness of Olivia Benson of Law and Order SVU, and gutsiness of Lydia Adams of Southland. If there was an annual award for best female detective in a book series, hands down she’d be taking home the trophy this year. The author has developed a cast of quirky characters and weaved suspects and clues into a realistic murder mystery that leave you drinking coffee to stay awake as you bite your nails, on the edge of your seat and do what ever else to finish this book. The plot and sub plots won’t allow you to put it down. You must turn the next page and start the next chapter.
As a binge-watching fanatic of Criminal Minds, Law and Order, and Crime Scene Investigation, I was delighted to discover this story had it all. The author has you engrossed with lead detective Joi Summers and her gorgeous partner as they sift through clues and interrogate suspects in their race-against-time to find a killer and solve a string of increasing murders. She includes the reader in the crime scene and forensic investigation and even the politics of neighboring department jurisdiction. It’s almost like a lesson in solving a crime.
