Six Months by Mona Sedrak is a story of courage, forgiveness and love for self and others. When you have lost everything how do you go on? After years of trying for a child Mikala and David finally have their little “butterfly”, Molly. She is protected and loved by the family that includes her godparents Rena and Jake who are college friends. Molly is five when she and David go off for a Daddy and Me day. It ends tragically with a one car crash in which Molly dies. Mikala is angry with God for taking her child and with David for surviving and not remembering what caused the crash. On what would have been Molly’s birthday, David takes his own life. Jake and Rena try to surround Mikala with love and sympathy but can they get through her grief?
This is a very emotional story from beginning to end. Mikala’s pain is so real it brought tears to my eyes. Jake and Rena’s pain at losing Molly and their frustrations at not being able to help Mikala comes through also. I felt I was pulled right in to the story and was part of the family. The characters are so real and David’s family really irritated me probably because I know some people like them. I give this book 5 of 5 stars. It is a touching extremely realistic look at grief and healing.
I received an advance copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This tale is a trying one on the reader. Dealing with horrific loss is something no one wants to face but many of us sadly do. Micky deals with one major loss after another and her trials are beautifully portrayed here.

One can gain strength just by reading how Micky is able to battle through that which could have destroyed her. The depth of the relationship between Jake and Micky is what carries this book.

A moving book that shows the power of the human spirit and the power of forgiveness.

For me, something concrete in terms of negative consequences for Leslie would have made this a better read. Further, a bit more fleshing out of Jake and Micky would have been nice too.

Still a powerful book that takes on loss without any holds barred and shows the power of one person to deal with and survive.

Warning: Harsh Language

First, I want to thank Mona Sedrak, Wild Rose Press Inc, and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

Mona Sedrak’s breathtaking cover captured my interest in this book originally in Six Months. The book’s cover has a sweet little girl with laughing as a butterfly sits on her nose. Flowers surround her and, in the background, you see a silhouette of a couple. I am a huge butterfly fan and this cover just melted my heart. Kudos to the graphic designer. When I did read the synopsis of the book I knew it was a must read book-I was right!
I feel that I must warn readers ahead of time that this book deals with a loss of a child at a young age. It also deals with the tremendous grief afterword’s and how each individual deals with it. If this is a trigger for you then this may not be a good book for you.

This book is dedicated to Mona’s husband Samy. He has always supported her and believed in her even when she lost faith in herself.

WOW! Mona had me hooked on page one and feeling all sorts of emotions. Warning you will need tissues! If you are a parent or like me a proud Auntie you will want to be holding them tight after reading this book. It was incredibly powerful.

You could tell that this book was very near and dear to Mona’s heart. You could tell by the way Mikala’s character and storyline was so passionately portrayed. It was a beautiful storyline that totally tugged on my heart strings. So many times I wanted to reach out and hug her for so many reasons.

I am a huge fan of butterflies for so many reasons. Not only are they on the front cover but they are mentioned in the book. The reader gets a little bit of education about butterflies which I thought was a cool idea. However, they are symbolism for Molly as well. I thought that was beautiful.

Touching, sensitive, and carefully-crafted.

This is a deeply emotional read that covers tragic topics quite sensitively. I found myself very drawn in, and though the subject was tough at times, I was glad that I stuck with it and enjoyed the engaging writing. I recommend this novel.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the free copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
