Description

“Perfect for fans of Helen Hoang’s The Kiss Quotient. A fun and steamy love story with high stakes and plenty of emotion.” - Kirkus

Kailyn Flowers was always calm, rational, and controlled-until she ended up sprawled all over Daxton Hughes, the former actor she totally crushed on as a teenager. Then she did the unthinkable: She became a mortifying fangirl in five seconds flat, which may or may not have included professing her undying love. And oddly, he didn't run away. In fact, their meet cute led to a friendship she never saw coming. Of course, she never saw his betrayal coming, either...

Now Dax needs her help. As guardian to his thirteen-year-old sister, he's in way over his head. And though Kailyn hasn't forgiven Dax, she isn't heartless enough to make him fend for himself, either. Soon their friendly meetings turn into flirty dinner dates, and Kailyn can feel their chemistry is as explosive as ever. But how can she possibly let down her guard again to a guy who has heartbreak written all over him?

Spectacular. Dax and Kailyn’s “meet cute” was the cutest, but what happens later on in their lives is even better. This story just hit me on so many different emotional levels, and I loved them all.

I am a sucker for a single hottie and his ward trope! This book was ADORABLE and such a fun, heartwarming read. It had lots of emotion and some speckles of humor, too. I really enjoyed it.

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the E-Arc copy of Meet Cute.
In starting off, I had never read Helena Hunting before so I didn't have a high expectation of what I was getting. I am so glad that I didn't because this book is a absolute treat. It will win you over within the first chapter. I am not a huge romance reader and found the book to be irresistible. The main characters Kailyn and Dax have great chemistry. It is hard not to like this book.

This boo was a bit different from the Helena Hunting we typically sell in the store. However, I loved the story and the characters. I have absolutely been a fangirl just never had the chance to meet any of my crushes. So, I lived vicariously through Kailyn and Dax. Sweet story.

Meet Cute by Helena Hunting: Kailyn has always been smart, but she's become more driven and focused on making partner before turning 30. She's one of the best lawyers within her area, but she's given up a lot of her personal life in pursuit of this goal. She's a major fan of a hit TV show from her teen years and she has the memorabilia collection to show for it.

Dax gave up acting and ended up finding a passion for the law. He enjoyed a more normal life while in college and law school and the years since he stopped acting. He's still recognized as the heartthrob lead after all this time. Now, he's putting in the hours to make partner in the near future and not really in the market for a relationship.

Kailyn has had some memorable run-ins with Dax, who is the object of her every teenaged fantasy. They ended up in law school together and they pushed each other to do better every step of the way, until Dax screwed her over to graduate at the top of their class. Kailyn is not pleased to run into him again years later, especially since she has to help him.

Dax is stunned to be given custody of his teenaged sister and both of them are reeling from all the changes. Dax has very different memories of their time in law school and he's grateful to have Kailyn in his corner. There was always chemistry between them, and now they have a chance to find new common ground while also addressing their past. Kailyn is a much needed support system and Dax shows her just how sweet, generous, funny, and thoughtful he can be. Getting involved romantically would be complicated, but it's hard to deny their feelings.

Meet Cute is entertaining, funny, and emotional. Helena Hunting provided banter, conflict, tension, teen drama, and heat. Ms. Hunting created a wonderful cast of characters, especially Dax's sister. Fans of Christina Lauren, Emma Chase, and Katy Regnery will enjoy Meet Cute.

I enjoy romances that also have something deeper going on and this was one of the good ones. Not only is there a swoon worthy romance but also family bonds, helping one another cope with tragedy, competition at work, and one of my favorites parts, fan girl moments that made me jealous and laugh. I really liked the depth of the story and also the characters. The two main characters are hard working, ambitious, witty, funny, caring, and I was rooting for them both. This is one of those romances that goes above and beyond the typical romantic plot that I'll be recommend the library patrons and friends. It was a fun read as well as something I invested in and I couldn't stop reading until I knew all three characters I cared about got their happy ending.

Loved Meet Cute! Modern day romance with plenty of sizzle and humor. Perfect contemporary romance for a spring/summer read.

Meet Cute is one of my most anticipated reads of 2019 and Helena Hunting didn't disappoint! It was emotional, poignant, and heartfelt, but also sweet and hilarious at times. It isn't quite the cutesy romcom that the cover depicts, but those elements are certainly there and fans of Hunting will still see her trademark wit and sense of humor. This story was part enemies to lovers, part second chance, and a whole lot about family. Daxton (Dax) and his relationship with his younger sister, Emme, is central to the entire book and though there is romantic love, there's also love between siblings and friends.

Dax and Kailyn have a complicated past, made even more convoluted by the tragedy that throws them together. As they reconnect, both are able to see the other in a new light. Old feelings come to the surface, while they try to maintain professionalism and consider the feelings of everyone involved. It was a realistic and honest conflict that they faced. I loved how they helped each other not only heal, but also move forward. I admired Kailyn's commitment to her pro bono work and how she was able to hold her own not only in her job, but also with Dax. Several times, she took him down a peg and showed not only her intellect but also her quick wit. Dax respected her for it and so did I. Things wrapped up quickly in the end and I did feel that the "villain" of the story was pretty predictable. I wish Dax would have heard Kailyn out before filling in all the blanks himself, but the epilogue more than made up for it! It left me with a huge smile on my face and was the perfect way to bring the story full circle.

What I loved about this book was the friendships, the banter, the whole storyline got caught in my heart and I found myself feeling like I was a fly on the wall! The characters really drew me in not only because of the sad moments but because of the devoted caring side of Daxton as well as Kailyn!!
These two characters had absolute hearts of gold! No word of a lie and I would gladly have both of them as friends!
Kailyns drive was amazing and the way she was with those close to her was just wonderful!
Daxton has a huge responsibility now and although hes making considerable effort is it enough??
Well you most definitely need to read this heartwarming story for yourself!
One of the best heartfelt stories of this year! Can’t wait to see what the author writes next!!

I think this was the most complex of Helena's books I have read. It's still the cute, sexy, and funny book I have come to expect from her, but this plot was more heavy from previous that I have read.

The banter, enemy to friends to enemies to friends to lovers theme in this book is spot on. I enjoyed every last minute of it. These characters made the book. They are so well developed, I couldn't not connect to them in a way that made the book so mesmerising I almost didn't want it to end.

The protagonist in this story added that extra layer to this story. It added a little kind of side plot that enriched the main plot of the book. It added angst and longing between Dax and Kailyn that was so palpable, I could feel all of their emotions.

This book is an overall extremely enjoyable read. I couldn't put it down. If you haven't picked up one of Helena's books yet, there is no better time than now to start.

I have read a couple of books by Helena Hunting, and what books I have read, were rom-coms, so to me, Meet Cute took this author to a whole new level. I was not prepared for the sense of devastation nor the emotional turmoil that Meet Cute was / is. Helena Hunting really took a step into a completely different box and did it beautifully. Meet Cute is exactly that, cute, but with tons of emotional baggage, the title and it's meaning fit perfectly for Kailyn and Dax. This novel faces real life issues, with real life expectations, and this author did an amazing job of showcasing the emotional roller coaster that comes along with loving someone and experiencing the unthinkable. It was so dang realistic and believable. I will say to me there wasn't really a character development in both Kailyn and Dax. That could be because this novel focus' on a span of a couple of months, besides the prologue. I really wish we could have seen more of Dax and Kailyn after the plot was settled. Other than that, it was a good read.

Kailyn is a senior associate at Whitman and Flood. Her goal and promise she made, is to make partner before turning thirty, so she doesn't really time outside of her professional life. She is a tell it like it is, no bs girl. She has a big personality that likes to differentiate herself from others, and has a love for silly pens, and childhood TV shows.

Dax is humble, so humble in fact, he wishes everyone would let him live down his childhood stardom, and recognize him as the professional he is. He has never been much of playboy, and has never really wanted to settle down. He is responsible, and always puts family first.

After a meet cute experience years earlier, Dax and Kailyn are face to face yet again. Despite the grudges held, they are forced to come together as Dax gains soul-guardianship of his 13 year old sister. The more time they spend together, the more yearning. Can the the grudges be left in the past? Or is more betrayal in the future?

This is one of those rare romance novels that can showcase a tender romance even in the midst of overwhelming grief. While sorrow is ever-present, Hunting takes great care to convey how the emotional bond is not one solely of comfort and pity. While there is empathy and care for each other, there is also sexual attraction, an intellectual meeting of minds, admiration, respect and an adult emotional connection that transcends the quotidian.

Thus, Hunting daringly and sensitively shows that even in the midst of a custody battle and bone-deep grief, it is possible for love to bloom. As the Dalai Lama says, “Sentient beings strive to survive and they do so by having a desire for happiness.” People are made to be happy — that is our norm – and we survive despair by aiming for happiness. That is how Kailyn survived the loss of her parents and that is how Dax and Emme deal with their loss.

Meet Cute is a novel where you will laugh and cry — sometimes, on the same page. It is a story of kindness and affection, sassiness and tenderness, where joy and sorrow are intermingled. You don’t want to miss this book.
