I love seeing people of all sizes being confident in who they are. I was happy to see a wide variety of people represented in these pages and have quite a few additions to my social media feeds. Along with photos, the reader is treated to a bit from each participant about their personal style. I found this book well put together and a joy to peruse.
Thank you to Andrews McMeel Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this inspiring book in exchange for my honest review.
PLUS+ is such an amazing representation of body positivity. The visual storytelling vividly tells the story of women accepting their bodies and learning to understand and walk in their worth. This book teaches you to comfortably live in your bodies it is. But continue to nourish yourself physically and mentally with proper self-care as well. Enjoy fashion NOW. Why wait to be "perfect" according to societies standards, embrace a stylish, colorful, fun and trendy way of "being" now. My favorite element in this book are the Social Influencers contact names and social media handles shared. Priceless!
I wish I could give a copy of this book to every girl and women who feel less than because they don't fit society's standards of beauty. This book is filled with gorgeous and confident women with killer style.
I really like this book. It showed fat people as people, for once. As a fat woman, I understand it is no easy for us to find clothes. It amused me how confident and happy those girls were in pictures.
The only thing I missed in this book was some more text.
This was such a great book! There are two introductions from the women who put the books together and then the rest of the book is pictures of different outfits with the woman's name and twitter account as well as what she has to say about her personal style. As a fat person who really loves fashion this book was right up my alley, and I totally relate to the struggle of trying to find something that is cute, affordable, and fits decently [spoiler alert: finding all three is all but impossible and the main reason why I make half my own clothes].
As is mentioned in the introduction, there are so many more choices than there used to be, but also most of them are online so in my personal experience unless items are really inexpensive or easily returnable you can easily get stuck with a lot of ill-fitting garments. I also liked the wide variety of body shapes and clothing styles that were represented in this book. When you're fat there are so many rules of what you're 'allowed' to wear or what is 'flattering' to your body type or can hide your 'problem areas' but this book features women wearing all kinds of different clothes and not being ashamed of their bodies.
[if you go to GoodReads you can see two quotes that I posted that I really liked from the book and talk about below. One describes her style as 'Toddler Grandma" and the other as "futch fatty".]
I am totally using the term "Toddler Grandma Style" from now on since I already pretty much always say that I've skipped straight ahead to the old lady portion of my life where I've decided to just stop caring what other people about what I like or wear. Also love the second quote because I feel that it's so unfair that most fat girls aren't called cute unless they put tons of time into their hair / makeup / clothes whereas a skinny girl can just throw on a huge t-shirt and a tiny pair of shorts and suddenly she's the ~most fashionable thing ever~ whereas most fat girls just get called slobs if they do that.
I loved this book. As a plus size woman i love seeing people can be comfortable in their own body. Fashion can't be one size only. This book has a lot of body positivity and that was amazing. I will definitely add to my books.
Really a cool book full of beautiful women in awesome outfits. I think it’s very inspirational for girls and women who may are bored to dress always the same just because they are not “so well shaped”. This book open your eyes and empower your vision. I can’t recommend this book enough.
Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader :)

Everything about this book is just perfect. As a plus size, I felt empowered to see other girls like me wearing looks that I would never think of using: they showed me that I also could do it and be more daring on my clothes, regardless of my body’s shapes and forms. I’m a closeted fashionista, but after this book, I honestly think I just might step away from the closet and start wearing clothes that I would never have the courage to wear before. It’s truly inspiring!
I honestly can’t say anything bad of this book, it’s perfection.
This cover is so impactful and beautiful! As a presentation of contents we’ll see inside, this is a lovely opening – where do I get myself a pink suit like this?? *o*
Fashion lovers and Plus sizes that, like, didn’t believe that they could be trendy too.
Review to be posted on all sources mentioned on my profile in January.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
WOW, just WOW. I loved this book. I just love books about fashion, about seeing people dress in their favourite fashions, but quite often these woman are thin (sometimes even thinner than thin), so I was more than excited to see plus-sized ladies show us all about their fashion. To note, I am not plus-size myself, but I do like more variety in fashion, everyone should just be able to wear what they want and show it off to the world! Thin, curvy, plus-sized, tiny or big, everyone should shine.
This book shows us various girls/woman telling us about their fashion and quite often we see that they were told not to wear a certain thing as they weren't the right size for it (urgggh, people please). I loved seeing all these strong woman showing us proudly what they like to wear (and boy, I love their clothes), and I can just say that they were all fabulous and inspirational. Very inspirational. Very motivational. <3
Due to the book being an ebook, I had at times a bit of a hard time figuring out whose quote was that at the bottom of the page. Often we have one girl on two pages, but sometimes we have two. I was just going with that the above one was for left, the bottom one was for right. Hopefully that was right. :P
The photography quality was overall pretty high, though there were a few that seemed blurry/out of focus. I loved that the photographer is able to catch the sparkle in each of these girls' eyes, you could see the confidence radiate out of them. I love it when photographers are able to catch that.
All in all, this was a very inspirational book, definitely having me motivated to just try out those tops I haven't dared to wear. Now to just wait for the summer to arrive as it is a bit too cold to wear them in November.
As someone who has struggled with her weight her whole life, there was just something about this title that drew me in. I was in desperate need of both some body positivity and fashion inspiration, because let's face it: it's not easy at all to find good plus-size clothes out there that are affordable, look good and are comfortable as well. Although I wish PLUS+ would have had more text and more fashion advice handed to us by the different models futured in this collection, the forward was brilliant. The photos themselves are wonderful, showing the world us plus-size girls have the right to wear whatever the heck we want and that we don't have to hide our body. Body positivity to the win! I admire all these beautiful women for not being afraid to show everyone there style and looking fabulous while doing it. And I definitely felt inspired by quite a few photos.
Rad introduction to some of the biggest online influencers in the plus fashion/fatshion community. I would have liked more info from each person, but the quotes about their style are still pretty great, if short. Instagram handles are included, making it easy to follow them.
It might be my ipad, but the color seemed very dark and over saturated, making it difficult to discern details (took a star off for that--the photos are why we're here!
In the same vein as the street style photography book The Sartorialist, PLUS+ looks at the diverse street fashion of curvy women. This book is inspirational for those that aspire to be fashionably bold and to be confident in one's own skin. You don't have to be "Plus" size to enjoy this vibrant book. I recommend this book if you enjoy photography of street fashion and inspirational quotes on how to be fabulous in a world where being different isn't celebrated enough.
I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.
Reading this made me so happy. I'm not much of a fashion person. My sense of style is . . I honestly have no clue. Whatever fits? But I would like to be more into it. I see pictures of girls wearing cute things and I think to myself, I want to be like that. But so often I find the people I'm looking at to be thin. So this was so refreshing, and so inspiring. As a fat girl it is so hard to find good fashion inspiration, but this book has a ton of it and I found myself following many of the models on Instagram.
The only thing I would say is that the little bios seemed to get kind of repetitive. I found myself skipping them as most of them said something along the same lines. It might of been more interesting to ask the models a question that got more of a varied response, but that might just be my opinion. I definitely don't usually read books like this, but I'm glad that I found this!
Brilliant book filled with inspiration and beautiful women. What more could you ask for.
Oozing style , confidence , and charisma .
Love this book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the first fashion book I've ever read that I felt reflected in. Being a plus sized lady, it can be a struggle to find style inspiration and trends. This book really filled a gap and I'll definitely be adding all these lovely ladies on insta.
This is a gorgeous coffee table style book for fans of fashion. It is full of beautiful and vibrant fashion photographs of plus size women who are not afraid to dress how they want and are not confined by the societal pressure to dress a certain way due to their size. It is also inspirational for curvy women who are looking to step outside the box with their fashion style.
I adore this book. As someone who is personally plus size and constantly dealing with the dilemma of finding clothing that fits my style and my body shape I was very interested in this book. It features a huge range of body shapes and plus size figures, a massive amount of styles from all walks of life, and a way to continue following the styles you resonate with. Each beautifully clear photo is paired with a name, description of style, and a social media handle allowing anyone who picks up this book to follow the people they share style and interests with. This book promotes a positive feeling about your size and shape in a unique way.
I am LOVING the fat girl rep in this! Seeing so many beautiful, fierce fat women celebrate their bodies and their own personal styles is amazing, plus the intersectionality displayed in the variety of models? Incredible. There are women of color, trans women, queer women, disabled women, the list goes on, and I loved that so much. The only issue I had with it is that the photos themselves aren't always as high-quality as I would expect any photos that make it into a photo book like this to be. The other issue is just that the compilation of the book itself didn't "wow" me - it felt like something you could create on Shutterfly with a free afternoon.
"Style is not measured in the size of your jeans. All women can be inspired." - Kellie Brown @AndIGetDressed
I absolutely loved this book! As someone who loves fashion, this was a book I would grab off the shelve for the display cover alone! Rutter Bethany does a beautiful job with the collection of photos of plus sized women and showing their fantastic styles! As a woman, who has some curves and doesn't fit the skinny model look, I really appreciated that the line above by influencer, Kellie Brown. When my gal pals tell me, oh, I don't think that would make me look good or that doesn't flatter my shape. Like girrrrl, how do you know? I love that no matter the size of your jeans, you can find clothes that speak to you. To your personality. To your body type. Don't let ANYONE ever shame you for your size especially society! This is why I am a 100% supporter of this book! Definitely would recommend!
"My style is practical, stylish, feminine (at times) but most of all, true to me."

PLUS + is a must buy coffee table book.
Are you a plus size woman?
Have you ever been told that you couldn't wear a specific outfit due to your size?
If so, PLUS + is the book for you. With photographs of plenty of plus-sized women wearing whatever they want, this book will easily become your go-to when you need some inspiration in your day.
Each professional photograph is also accompanied by a quote from the model. These quotes range from: "I dress for the celebration I want my life to be" all the way to: "Fuck flattering! No rules. Just Style." The included quotes run the gamut from sassy to demure, and from angry to inspirational.
Finally there is a book that celebrates fashion for regular sized women, rather than for stick people with no curves. Body positivity is the message.
As an added bonus, each photo layout includes the @ tag for each model which allows readers to go online and follow their favorite model even after finishing reading this book.
If, after reading, you do not come away feeling better about your body, and your personal style, then you are missing the point and I suggest you read it again.
I rate PLUS+ as 5 out of 5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ and I hope to see this book become the go-to Christmas present for all your female friends regardless of their dress size.
***Thank you to #NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book.***
*I have received this book from NetGalley*
It's more of a tabletop book, which you can look at from time to time. The general idea of the book is to show that no matter the size, you should be body positive. The message of the book is to love yourself, love your body and be true to yourself. Being not only plus-size but also PwD can be challenging in a matter of finding clothes that fit, look good and are comfy. Ladies presented in the book are happy with themselves and you can definitely see it. Some of them are stunning, some gorgeous, all are amazing. Author of the book is absolutely right, that buying big sizes is possible almost only in online shops. Highstreet shops barely ever offer big sizes and more exclusive shops don't even bother to sell plus sizes. I agree with all the girls in the book, who say that it took time to accept their bodies and feel comfortable in it. For me, it took some time, too. Now I wear what I want, what I find comfy and what reflects my mood. Sometimes I like to dress up, but most of the time leggins and oversized sweater are my vibes ;)
Thank you for this book, Bethany Rutter!
This book is fantastic! I've always been plus size, and so I was interested in this book, but it was so much more than I expected it to be! The quotes that accompany the profiled are fantastic, and are truly inspirational. I've found so many new people to follow on instagram!
First off, I love the concept of this book. I think it is a very important subject and one that needs to be talked about. I loved reading the forwards. There were a few shots that I absolutely loved, the cover being my favorite. That being said, some of the photographs looked quite amateurish...and some of the fashion choices were definitely not ones that I would ever wear. Some I didn't find flattering in the least. But, that is the beauty of fashion... It is in the eye of the beholder, much like art. I commend these women for being bold in their own skin and loving themselves. That's by far the biggest and most important message in this book, and for that, I find it a success in it's own right.
PLUS + is a must buy coffee table book. As someone whos told often you can't wear that. I love this book! this book has pictures of girls in there I don't care what the world thinks. Each photo layout includes the @ tag for each model which allows readers to go online and follow their favorite model even after finishing reading this book. I love this Book thank you!
I love this book. I feel deeply privileged to have received an advanced copy for review. Everyone should own this book and let it help you feel more confident and comfortable in your skin. As a plus sized woman myself, I was really inspired by the eclectic fashions from all the models/bloggers. I appreciate the fact that this book features not only cis women, but trans women and non-binary folx. It’s a great intersectional look at the real bodies of plus size fashion and the endless possibilities of what to wear.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was not paid for this review.
So being a plus-sized woman can be difficult when it comes to fashion, but this book is so inspirational and just fun to flip through. I love the concept for this book and wish that there would be more out there on the subjects, or even just plus sized bodies and acceptance. The women in this book are so fierce and just ooze confidence. Books like this are important to have, especially for younger viewers. I am so happy that I requested this one and read it!
Really enjoyed it. As a plus size woman, looking through and reading about other woman and their fashion and confidence inspired me to embrace myself and my wardrobe. I was always hiding my self behind my clothing and through this have learned to be comfortable in my skin and what my body wants to wear. Loved it.
As a plus size woman, it is so empowering and validating to see a fashion book filled with women who look like me. In an industry so obsessed with size, it was great to see women outside of the norms. The only issue is that some of the pictures lacked sharp focus or the colors were over-saturated. Nevertheless, I loved the arrange of styles, and the foreword and introduction were wonderful.
Plus+ is a collection of plus size models showing their sense of style and confidence in photos and share their own words. You can see the confidence flowing through them and it makes me wish I had more for myself! They wear what they want because they can and who cares what anyone else thinks! The models are a variety of plus size, are different races, and there is even a Muslim woman expressing herself in fashion!
Most of the fashion choices were not ‘for me’ and would not be something I would wear, but that is not what this book is about. The title says it all and it did reach its purpose: Plus+: Style Inspiration for Everyone. Wear what you want because YOU want to whether it be colors or black, short skirts or long skirts, shorts or pants, etc! Be comfortable in your skin, as it is who you are.
Special thanks to the publisher Andrews McMeel Publishing for granting me an e-arc copy via NetGalley!
Collection of images of women of various shapes and sizes, many of whom are popular on social media channels for spreading body positivity and inclusiveness in an industry that is extremely toxic that don’t fit antiquated body norms.
I really enjoyed this and hope that it spurs conversations on why we continue to let the fashion industry promote a body type that isn’t inclusive of the majority of the population.
Pardon me a moment:
'k. Onto the review.
This is a simple, coffee table-style book featuring plus sized women wearing whatever the hell they want. And I. am. here. for. it.
This isn't fashion models. This isn't big girls being given designer clothes and told to pose to show off their inner beauty. These are women who display themselves on a regular basis on their Instagrams and other social media feeds, showing off their personal style, their aesthetic, their beautiful bodies without feeling any shame.
And they. are. gorgeous.
Mind you, I don't think every outfit is a winner. There are some things in these pages I cast quite the side eye at. But you know what? That's the whole damn point. Fashion is subjective, fashion is a choice, and fashion is all about what you feel.
I'd rather see outfits like this than the shit thrown into the pages of fashion magazines every day. These women put their looks together, from vintage to thrift store chic to modern trends, and they rock them and they love themselves in the clothes they wear. And that's what makes this book just the beeeeeeeeeest.
This book makes no apology for being loud and taking up space. As someone in the plus range myself, Plus+ is an inspiring walk through the dress style of many plus size women, a demographic often told they are not relevant simply for existing. This book shows that looking good isn't limited to those in the size zero range. If the industry doesn't provide, then we'll do it ourselves.
So many beautiful women being who they are and expressing themselves. The fashion was wonderful, I follow a lot of women fashion influencers on instagram and am excited to see this book made!
PLUS+ by Bethany Rutter sums up the body positivity movement in a fun fashionable way. Each vibrant photograph is accompanied by the model’s Instagram handle and a short piece on how they define their style. Seeing so many beautiful women embrace themselves gave me a whole new appreciation for the body positivity movement.
Bethany Rutter and a group of talented people created this work of art. The perfect way to read this book is with a beverage and your phone. While reading, I also scrolled through some of the model’s Instagram feeds. I came across some of the most fashionable accounts. The diversity made the book even more enjoyable. There were women with different backgrounds and from different places. Every page complimenting the next.
On an inspiration level it reached 110%. Thee variety of looks, styles and fashionable pieces made me in the mood for shopping. I like buying magazines like Vogue and Marie Claire, but I never feel like the fashion spreads are realistic. The models are mostly positioned in uncomfortable looking way and wear clothes that aren’t always practical. With PLUS+ we get to see how real women dress and how they create their own styles. I could imagine myself wearing a lot of the outfits and being comfortable yet stylish.
This is a book for anyone who loves fashion, being inspired and like seeing women embracing who they are. This is also the perfect gift. I plan on buying this for quite a few people. It’s perfect for quick inspiration and some body positive vibes.
* Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this arc in exchange for an honest review!
I'm not a fashion-y person, but I am trying to be more put together. This book was a great introduction to a variety of looks, styles, and attitudes. Definitely going to buy it as a future present for a fashion conscious friend of mine!
I received a digital ARC from the publisher via Netgalley.
Plus+ is a coffee table book exploring plus size fashion.
Popping with pictures of regular plus size women wearing what they enjoy, Plus+ shouldn’t be unusual. After all per the National Institute of Health, 2 out of 3 women are overweight or obese. However, I have never seen another book like it. How many large women have you seen in Vogue? Not many.
Plus+ is the perfect gift for curvy girls looking for new wardrobe ideas. There are a multitude of styles shown. I do wish there were longer bios of the models. 4 stars!
Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I would like to thank Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with a free electronic ARC of this book, via Netgalley. Any reviews I give are done obligation free, and are done free of any charge.
Now, if you’ve been an avid reader of my posts on this blog you will have seen the January one containing pictures of me. And you would have rightly guessed I am indeed a plus size person physically (as well as in personality ;-) ).
Sadly I have never fit into what was deemed fashionable. I am 187cm (6’ 2”) and have been since I was about 12 years old. And with the height came broad shoulders, wide hips and big boobs. So even when I am at my “thinnest” (unlike now thanks to illness) I just do not fit into “average” or “fashionable” clothes. This is hard for someone who describes herself as tall and fat. As, according to fashion outlets, tall people are apparently all meant to be rail thin and 16 years old… while fat people are meant to be dwarves and in their 50’s. And so I’ve always hated clothing (when it comes to wearing it – cutting it up into rag yarn is a totally different story ;-) ) and have never really found anything that fits me. So have felt the fault lies with me for being the wrong shape and size.
How the hell does this have anything to do with ‘Plus+’? Well, that little side story is explaining WHY I asked to read and review this book. And how life changing it has been.
I LOVE ‘Plus+’. It is not, as some people have said, a book on fat women in photos. It is an affirmation of life, love and how clothing is there to make YOU – the wearer – feel good… as well as cover the bits you want covered and keep you warm/ cool as temperatures require. Each page was a woman looking at me as if challenging me to just be ME. Dress for me, accept me in my odd shape and sizes, be free to enjoy clothing. Their quoted expressions and discussions on their style and loves, their choices and challenges… They are there to encourage the reader to realise “YOU are better than that. Dress to suit you, not to suit others”. And, for being someone who doesn’t like buying clothes online as I fear nothing will fit me - just like in face to face clothes shopping horror stories that are my life – I have looked up the sites mentioned in ‘Plus+’ and they have helped encourage my freedom from clothes fears. I have ordered clothes online! I have found women out there who – yeah we’re not all the same shape and size – have inspired me to give up on that fat and frumpy look that is making me so unhappy and have me seek the style that fits me right – mentally as well as physically.
To all the women that appear in ‘Plus+’ – thank you. You are beautiful; I love your styles, thank you for helping me unblinker myself from my fashion fears.
Now, the reason I didn’t give ‘Plus+’ a whole 5 out of 5 is due to the layout. This book is meant to be enjoyed in the paper form. I read it as an ACSM and couldn’t view as two pages… only one at a time. And that just didn’t do the book any justice and made it hard to truly enjoy reading it the way it should have been read. Yes I am being picky, but it did detract from my enjoyment. I hope not all eBook versions for sale are that bad.
Would I recommend this book to others?
Yes I would. ‘Plus+’ is not some fashion catalogue for fat people. It is an expression of freedom to all body types to realise you look good if you feel good in what you’re wearing. Don’t let the fashion world dictate what is right and wrong – take control and show it what it right for you.
So I would recommend ‘Plus+’ to people needing a bit of a boost in the right direction to loving themselves for how they are, rather than feeling they need to change to fit into society’s strict, narrow mindset. ‘Plus+’ is a freeing book, helping the reader see life is too short to hate what you look like when you can be out there loving life and yourself in clothes you want to wear.
Would I buy this book for myself?
Yes I would, in its paperback format. I would have to see if it was available to me in Australia, as Amazon.com.au doesn’t list it… but there is more than one online bookstore I can lurk on. ;-) And why would I buy it? Because it contains some great “pep” talk advice, reminders to be myself on the outside as well as on the in, and it contains all those plus size online shops I want to keep visiting. :-)
In summary: ‘Plus+’ isn’t just some coffee table fashion book, it is an affirmation that you look good how you are, no need to change to please others if you are happy with yourself. An excellent read!
This book is FANTASTIC! Each page is a glorious homage to the featured woman's unique style - and all of them have WAY more fashion sense than I can ever hope to have! This book celebrates the idea that you can wear whatever you want regardless of your age or your size - and that we all should throw away all the rules of what we "should" or "shouldn't" wear that have been drilled into us forever.
So whether your fashion tastes run to "Scandinavian Simplicity" or "Toddler Grandma" (definitely MY favorite), this is a quick, easy and fun read. And you may just be inspired to go out and shake up your wardrobe!
There are some pretty great styles featured in this book and it's a real joy to look at the models. Plus (not pun intended), the models are gorgeous!
This is not a traditional fashion photography book. Instead it is a collection of women in a variety of sizes wearing a variety of styles. The book suggests that no matter your body shape find a style that suits you and your personality and enjoy and flaunt it. I really enjoyed the photographs but I do wish the text was a little more in depth. Enjoy the inspiration.
