This story was shorter than expected, and choppy at places, like maybe it's one of the author's first stories...and that's ok, because we all start somewhere! The plot is interesting, the characters are believable, and it was short enough for a long afternoon read. Having spent a lot of time in the Seacoast area, it was nice to slip into the pages and feel like I was visiting old friends in the places featured.

Blake is a movie-star who got into drugs and ended up divorced due to reports of him having an affair. His ex-wife hates him and has poisoned his son's mind against him. But now Blake has cleaned up his act and is trying to make amends with Eli, his teenage son. When Blake finds that Eli has sneaked out late one night leaving a flyer advertising a music festival, he knows what temptations the boy might be facing. Will he be able to find him in time? And will he ever be able to make things right between them?

This is a fairly short 'feel-good' story with an inspirational message, and is well written and clean. I rarely read stories that are this short because I often find them to be shallow and relatively plotless, but though I hadn't realised how short this was, I enjoyed it anyway - which is not to say that I wouldn't like it to have been longer, or at least with a sequel. I hope to read more by the author, and would happily recommend this book.

Characters: Frankly, I'd like to hear about the next year or two of their lives, because I enjoyed the 24 hours that this book introduced. The characters felt real.
Storyline: Well paced and arranged - neither rushed nor rambling. Unusually well done for something this short, I would say.
Content and language: Clean, no issues noted.
Message: Themes of redemption, reconciliation and love. Inspiring, not overdone.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

What a sweet Christmas story this was! This novella is about movie star Blake Carmichael, who has moved from Hollywood to the east coast in order to re-gain a relationship with his estranged son. While his ex-wife is on her honeymoon, their son is staying with Blake. Blake finds out he's snuck out after going to bed and goes to great measures to find him. In the process, Eli (his son) learns a bit more about his dad. This is a beautiful redemptive story that speaks to the grace and peace of the holiday season. It speaks of a father's love that demonstrates THE Father's love and the lengths He went to bring us back to Him. And of course, there is a bit of a sweet romance thrown in as well. Super sweet story and a nice quick read. Highly recommend!
