'A gem of a novel' JODI PICOULT

The irresistible new standalone from Sophie Kinsella is a story of love, empowerment and an IOU that changes everything . . .

Fixie Farr can’t help herself. Straightening a crooked object, removing a barely-there stain, helping out a friend . . . she just has to put things right. It’s how she got her nickname, after all.

So when a handsome stranger in a coffee shop asks her to watch his laptop for a moment, Fixie not only agrees, she ends up saving it from certain disaster. To thank her, the computer’s owner, Sebastian, scribbles her an IOU – but of course Fixie never intends to call in the favour.

That is, until her teenage crush, Ryan, comes back into her life and needs her help – and Fixie turns to Seb. But things don’t go according to plan, and now Fixie owes Seb: big time.

Soon the pair are caught up in a series of IOUs – from small favours to life-changing debts – and Fixie is torn between the past she’s used to and the future she deserves.

Does she have the courage to fix things for herself and fight for the life, and love, she really wants?

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
In true Kinsella fashion, the story is fast paced and easy to read. There is a physical connection to the characters where you either want to laugh, cringe or strangle some of them. Except Fixie's Mum. Fixie's Mum is like the glue holding it all together, and when she's gone, all bets are off.
It's a fun, lighthearted novel that makes you want to fight for the little guy and be honest always.

You know what you’re getting with Sophie Kinsella and this does not disappoint. Light, enjoyable and uplifting - this is the literary version of a glass of Prosecco and a chat with good girlfriends.

I have read and enjoyed all of Sophie Kinsella’s previous books so was very excited to receive her latest from net galley.
I sat and read this is one sitting! I was rooting for Fixie all the way through, thanks to Sophie’s knack of writing characters so well.
A really enjoyable read.

Another great book from Sophie Kinsella!

Fiixie has her nickname because she can't help trying to fix everything. That is how she meets Seb, as she saves his laptop in a cafe. They have a series of events where they end up owing each other for a good turn - she asks for help finding Ryan a job. As you meet the character Ryan you dislike him straightaway, and hope things go somewhere with Seb instead, but will her inability to stop fixing things cost Fixie her happiness in the end?

Fixie Farr is the definition of a traditional family girl and would do anything for her Mother and her siblings after her dad has entrusted her to continue the family motto of “family first” following his death. His legacy included the family homewares store, which Fixie is obsessed with, but her siblings don’t feel quite the same, leaving her to pick up all the slack whilst they chase their dreams. Until one day when Fixie loans out a favour to a complete stranger in a coffee shop which sets off the ultimate string of IOUs. This throws Fixie’s life into slight turmoil whereby she is forced to decide what is more important; keeping up the family traditions that nobody else seems interested in, or following or heart to achieve her own dreams and desires.

I do love me a good, classic chick lit read! I feel like they’re a little bit of a guilty pleasure of mine for some reason, when there is nothing to be guilty about. This book totally delivered on giving me all the giggles, all the “no she didn’t!”s and absolutely all the feels.

Yes, the main character is fluffy and a little clumsy whilst also a tad obsessive and dare I say it, a bit of a goody two shoes but she’s funny and endearing and romantic and normal. She’s what I want from a chick lit. I find that Sophie Kinsella’s main characters always have a “journey” and I’m always rooting for them at the end as they finally reach their destination and Fixie was no different. I was rooting for her from the start and by the end I was seriously feeling the GIRL POWER ✌🏽

I indulged in this book over the weekend, snuggled on the sofa with a glass of wine and it was the perfect setting to accompany a fab girly read. This was such a fun, light-hearted read that reminded me not to be a book snob. I can indulge in contemporary romance and chick lit novels, laugh at them and sit around with a sappy smile on my face because it makes me giggle and makes me feel all warm and cosy. Thank you Sophie Kinsella for reminding me of that!

Introducing hapless but endearing heroine, Fawn aka ‘Fixie’ Farr, whose nickname derives from her compulsion to constantly make everything right. This is an engaging page-turner which follows Fixie’s life and an assortment of characters including Jake, her obnoxious social climber brother; self-absorbed sister, Nicole; teenage crush, Ryan and ethically-minded stranger, Seb. Fixie’s journey of self-discovery sees her tackling sibling rivalries, divided family loyalties and will-they-won’t they romances along the way to discovering the meaning of true happiness and love. This is a perfect winter’s afternoon read which treads familiar Sophie Kinsella territory, but is no less enjoyable for that fact.

I loved this so much. Fixie is instantly likeable but very complex, and those layers are beautifully drawn by the author. The supporting cast and the story are refreshingly believable, even with a pantomime style villain for good measure. I’m genuinely a bit gutted that I read this so quickly - I couldn’t put it down at all - I didn’t want it to end. Highly recommended!

I owe you one is the story of a family run business, focusing on Fixie, she helps her mum run the shop more than anyone else, and seems to enjoy what she does. Her brother is living a millionaire lifestyle, and her sister is aloof and self absorbed.
Like so many of us she just cant move on from her high school crush. (Some of us it doesn’t work out for, others it does). Ryan lives in LA – living a glitzy lifestyle, but all of a sudden hes back. WIll he want her, can they finally be a couple like shes always wanted?
Fixie needs to collect herself so she pops into a coffee shop and ends up doing a stranger a simple favour. Now her owes her and is determined to pay her back – but his girlfriend is slightly less than happy about it. First Seb owes Fixies a favour then she owes him – this is about trading favours with a subtle undertone of flirting and tension.
This story is a beautiful learning experience for Fixie, its a reminder that family is important, but you are just as important, and shows just what you can accomplish when you set your mind to it.

Its about love, and money, healing and taking control.

I love Sophie Kinsella, there's something about her books that always keeps my interest.
You know exactly what you're going to get with her books which means they never disappoint!
This was a funny, lighthearted read that kept me interested with charming, relatable characters.

I really enjoyed this.

I always enjoy reading Sophie Kinsella. Her books are usually amusing, her heroines a bit daft but with their hearts in the right places and good always wins. They're also light relief from all the dark crime I usually read.

Fixie Farr is a young woman who can't help fixing things. She works in the family business with her mother (nice), her brother Jake (conceited ass) and sister Nicole (total airhead). Although she is plainly worth 100 of her ghastly siblings she can't see this and always backs down and lets them walk all over her. This is the story of how she learns to stand up to them and in so doing helps them change into nicer human beings. At times you feel like reaching into the page and shaking her she's so spineless but she does get there in the end.

This probably isn't the best Kinsella novel but it's certainly readable and with some laugh aloud moments (the party at Jake's club turns up some nice humorous moments. Recommended. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC.

Fixie Farr works at her family’s home wares shop alongside her mum. She is a great friend and employee but she has doesn’t have the nickname Fixie for nothing not always with the best results. But if she thinks she can help she always will.. when things change within the family meaning she has to work together with her older brother and sister who have very different opinions of how the shop should be run. The there’s the man with the forest green eyes who owes her one . Can she change and let the past go and stand up for herself and find herself in the process. A great book that has you screaming with frustration then laughing at Fixies escapades.

I wanted to read something light after reading a couple of historical fiction books and felt that this would nicely fit the bill. It did and totally exceeded my expectations. Fixie Farr,as her nickname implies, is the family "fixer". It was interesting to explore the family dynamic and realise why everyone acted the way they did. There were plenty of twists along the way and a satisfying ending where suddenly everything seemed to amje sense. I enjoyed it.
Id like to thank the author @KinsellaSophie, the publishers and netgalley for providing me with an advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

A wonderfully well written piece of complete escapism. Great characters who you feel you know and can get behind. Broken dreams and dysfunctional family members which bring the family shop to the brink of ruin, can it be saved? A book you will stay up into the night to find out the ending of, I did. Families! you can't pick 'em but someone needs to take the lead and get the family back together again.

I adore Sophie Kinsella and her style of writing, I was so excited to be able to read and review her latest offering. I can assure you that I was not disappointed with ‘I owe you one’.
The story focuses on Fixie and her need to fix anyone and everything around her, she inadvertently saves Sebs laptop when a ceiling collapses on her and what follows is a series of IOU’s and an eventual happy ever after.
The character and the story is engaging, this was such an enjoyable and easy read that I couldn’t put it down and had finished it within days!
Hands down 5 stars, thanks for allowing my to read

Fixie needs to fix everything in her life, including her family. She is a bit of a doormat but in a likeable way. She meets Seb in a coffee shop and they slowly exchange I owe yous. Fixie starts to stand up to her family with a dose of tough love and communication and they work their problems out. This is a lovely book about the problems and trials of running a family business but also highlights how important family and community is and how important it is to recognise and embrace our differences. An enjoyable read. I would recommend this book. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to review this book.

Fixie has a flaw, she can't prevent herself from fixing stuff. When she meets Seb in a cafe, she saves his computer from a water leak and he gives us an IOU. She uses the IOU to help her boyfriend and then start the game of IOU back and forth between them. Throughout the story Fixie has to grow to help her family and herself. This was a funny and easy read, exactly what I was expecting from Sophie Kinsella.

Although I loved the shopaholic books, I haven't read a Sophie Kinsella book for quite a few years.

I loved Fixie from the start, totally relating to the feeling and pressure, of not being good enough. Although Fixie is Farr's through and through, I felt Jake and Nicole were destined for different paths, quite evident in their attitude towards Fixie and the store.

When it came to Ryan, I wanted to shake Fixie! Although we all remember our first crush/love and would find it very difficult to say no, if they ever showed an actual interest.

A lovely book which I thoroughly enjoyed

It made a refreshing change to read this book, light hearted but actually very relatable on many ways!

Sophie Kinsella has written a great stand alone novel about favours and IOUs basically, but the needing to please and going the extra mile gets stretched and stretched until it has become your own therapy. Clever!

It is an easy read, but a very enjoyable one. I'll definitely reread this in the summer.

I really liked this book! It was witty, fun and romantic. Fixie's moral progression throughout was really good and Seb sounded wonderful. The writing was really nice as to what Fixie sounded like.

Overall, I'll give this book a 4/5 for a light, sweet read on a dark January night.

This was a lovely change from my usual crime books. It was light hearted and easy to get through. I thought it was really entertaining and I could really picture the characters in my mind. It's quite a quirky story and the plot is a little bit different so it was a really refreshing read!

As a romance reader you cannot avoid hearing of Sophie Kinsella and yet for some unexplained reason, I've never read any of her books. That's until a few weeks ago, when I was browsing through Netgalley. As soon as I saw this book, I just had to request it and see what all the fuss is about. The timing of receiving this book was perfect. A few days after being approved, I was flying to Denmark again, and it's always nice to have something read on the plane! I got all comfortable in my seat and got ready to read, whilst trying to keep my expectations under control. So, while I kept thinking "it's just a book, don't get too excited, don't think too much", the pilot got ready for takeoff.

As it turns out the book is one of the best books I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Sophie Kinsella's writing style didn't just have me hooked right from the beginning, it also had me laughing out loud so many times, that the guy next to me started moving further away and gave me weird looks. And let me just be honest here; it wasn't just a kind of quiet giggle. I was full on roaring with laughter, and had tears running down my cheeks. Seriously, the book is so bloody hilarious that I didn't even care about the poor guy, who by random (lack of) luck got seated next to me.

Fixie is exactly the kind of character I don't like in real life. She's obsessive with fixing things, which more than half the time would be better left alone. Not only that, she's also a bit of a know-it-all. Mix that with her lack of seeing people for who they really are, lack of courage and confidence, she's a mess! Her childhood crush, Ryan, should either be filed under "exhibit A" or in the memory draw, under "BME" for BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. At first I was blinded by his Hollywood glamour, too. That was right until the first time they have sex, after they're re-united, and he gets turned on by Fixie telling him how attractive, fantastic and amazing he is. Sounds sleazy? Well it is. But with the way Sophie Kinsella wrote it, it's just too dang funny!

Fixie's family aren't exactly the most caring, loving or supportive bunch. So, when the matriarch of the Farr's needs a break, to regain her health, and goes on holiday, she entrusts the family business to their uncle (dead fathers brother) and the eldest of her children: Fixie's brother. Before she leaves their mother does leave Fixie with an important message: don't let the family or business fall apart. Well that should be the easiest assignments ever, right? Of course it probably would be in many families. Except for in Farr family, most of them care more about themselves than any of their shared family obligations. So, when one sibling borrows and spends money like there's no tomorrow, and another wants to turn their store into a yoga studio, Fixie really has her work cut out for her on this front. Especially as she's too daunted by her brother to speak up.

The mysterious laptop owner, Seb, was a most welcome addition to the characters. He's not only successful, caring, a tiny bit flawed, trusting and he has a great sense of humour - he's also my first book crush of 2019. Seriously, if I was single I might start asking random people at coffee houses, if they want me to look after their laptops, all in search of someone like him. Admittedly, that might get me kicked out if people think I'm after their goods, but it would be worth it.

All in all I loved everything about this hilarious and swoon-worthy book. Sophie Kinsella doesn't just write about things, she brings them to live within the pages. All the characters are three dimensional, even the secondary ones. Her writing really is right up my alley, and I'll definitely be reading more of her books.

As a great Sophie Kinsella fan I knew that this book would be a good absorbing read, and wasn’t disappointed. The main character Fixie Farr, is a charismatic, gentle and kind sort of girl who would do anything for her family and friends. She gained her name ‘Fixie’ as she Is the sort of person who tries to fix things, and when a stranger’s laptop is in danger of becoming damaged, she rushes to save it resulting in being given an ‘I Owe You’ note.

All has been going steadily in the family shop, until Fixie’s mum is forced to take a a break, and Fixie’s old lover returns from abroad. She has a series of decisions to make which are light-hearted and funny. Fixie’s decisions are never considered seriously by her family, and the family shop (Farr’s) looks about to change dramatically. Also Ryan, her schoolboy ‘crush’ is not all he appears to be.
In true ‘Fixie’ fashion, she tries to sort out things, helped by Seb {the stranger from the café).

Many misunderstanding occur as the story progresses, which result in a laugh-a-minute, light hearted tangle which Sophie Kinsella fans (old and new) will enjoy reading. There are also emotional moments resulting in a wonderful all-rounded book. The secondary characters are so likeable and funny I didn’t want it the story to end.
The author is a master of this genre and I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy light-hearted, ‘over the top’ escapism.

Reading a Sophie Kinsella book is always a delight from first page to last and this one is no exception. Her style of writing is so easy for the reader and the words just flow into yet another fabulous, warm, funny, tale that quickly draws you in making it difficult to put down even when sleep is beckoning.
When Fixie saves a stranger's laptop from being ruined by a deluge of water the title of the book comes into play. Seb writes an IOU on a coffee cup for Fixie to redeem in the future and so their relationship begins. In the midst of this is Ryan, the supposed love of Fixie's life, who we all realise is a total user but will Fixie see through him? Woven through all of this is the task.Fixie has of living up to her nickname as she endeavours to sort out the multitude of problems created by her family. A brilliant book!!!!

I admit that I am partial to a book by Sophie Kinsella - her Becky Bloomwood series started when I too had a low paying job in the financial industry so she really was a heroine that I could relate to. Even now I occassionally hope that my purchases will be allocated to the wrong credit card. And when I see a purchase that I don't recognise the indignation equals Becky's until the realisation that, yes I did spend that much money. Me, me, all me.

When the opportunity arose to review the new novel (I owe you one) my heart skipped a beat before panic set in. Because honestly i absolutely adore the vast majority of Kinsella's work - I've read most of the Madeline Wickham books too. But I just didn't care for her last book. It just wasn't the usual mix that I'd expected in one of my go-to authors. Thankfully this book was much more like the ones that I love than the previous book. We have a relatable heroine who is underestimated by those around her, a love triange, confusion and sentimentality.

I'm not going to lie, I know the formula. But I also love the formula. There is something reassuring about knowing from the outset what is going to happen at the end. The journey there may take many twists and turns but knowing where the story is heading is pretty reassuring for me. And enjoyable. I suspect, like most novels from the author, I will re-read this book again.

I feel like there will be a Sophie Kinsella super post in my future - I do really appreciate her work. My ultimate favourite book is Forget You (and on a slight aside I am absolutely gutted that the unabridged version is not available on audible) although Domestic Godess gets funnier with every read. But then there is Can You Keep a Secret. Throw in the original Bloomwood trilogy and you have some of my feelgood reads. My do-tos for when I feel blue. I Owe You is not as funny as some of the aforementioned novels, but it's not meant to be. The heroine is less secure in herself and her abilities and that can make for some uncomfortable reading.

All in this book is absolutely a 4.5/5, to be honest I think it is 5/5 and suffering from my high expectations and anticipation going in. Because I have enjoyed some of Kinsella's previous work more does not mean that this book is not excellent - it is. It's very excellent.

I received an advance reading copy from the publisher through netgalley.

Sophie Kinsella can do no wrong when it comes to writing feel good, modern romance novels.
I’ve loved her books since the shopaholic series and this new book did not disappoint. You quickly get drawn into all of the characters and the main one, Fixie is hugely likeable. The book will leave you with a big smile on your face and you’ll be disappointed you’ve finished it.

I absolutely loved reading this book. It was funny (really funny moments that made me laugh out loud -imagine that at night with everyone sleeping) and sad at once filled with unconditional love. Loved the story line which is about family run the business. That means to say nothing. It's a strong connection and it hits home -Family first! I've learned to love Fixie and Seb, and other characters. Loved to see those complicated characters to grow especially Fixie with all her insecurities and how she grow to discover her real self. That's amazing when you find yourself in a few of them at some point, it's like a trip down to your own memories.
Great read although you can guess what's comming but that's what this genre is about. It still keeps you enthralled until the very last page. Highly recommend it.

Sophie Kinsella can do no wrong! As with all of her novels this was funny and heartwarming with a great cast of characters. The plot (as with, well all, of her books really) does stretch credulity as far as it can go but it works, and you end up rooting for Fixie and the rest of her family as the novel draws to its inevitable happy ending. A fantastic example of a great romantic, comedic novel- I highly recommend!

Sophie Kinsella never fails to please. As good as ever. Fixie's character is so well written, the reader can't help but empathise with her .

I absolutely loved this!!! I am a big fan of Sophie Kinsella and I Owe You One did not disappoint!

This is a story of a woman who has been dictated to by her family and how her thoughts have effected her and her personality. It is a story that is entirely relate-able as most people have felt like this at some point.

You buy into the characters and I felt a real empathy for Fixie and went on the roller-coaster with her!!

The main character in this book Fixie is a lovely person but no confidence because of her brother who’s a bit of a bully and an airy sister so when her mum goes away for a break she is the one trying to manage everything. This story is one of family relations first loves / crush and a true hero one who helps Fixie to believe in herself.I enjoyed the characters even though at times I felt like giving Fixie a good talking to about men or a certain man. A thoroughly enjoyable book which was hard to put down .

Another fab read from Sophie Kinsella! Her Shopaholic books make me laugh out loud, and this new novel is just as good. Fixie works the family hardware shop and has done so since her own catering business went bust. Working with family has its difficulties, and these certainly come to the fore when her Mum takes a long break abroad. With a school yard crush returning to the country and the stranger she meets in a local cafe, Fixie has a lot going on in her life. This is a brilliant tale of the stress and conflicts that can build up when you work closely with family (I’m sure a lot of the issues will be familiar to readers!), and how you can put things right without upsetting others. With a love interest thrown in , this is a feel good novel and a fab read.

I love Sophie Kinsella books so was excited to see this novel on Netgalley. It didn’t disappoint.

A main character who loves fixing everything, family who don’t get on but have to work together to keep the family business going, a teenage crush who you just know from the start is going to be trouble, an IOU from a stranger after the main character Fixie saves his laptop in an accident - all add up to a great story.
I really enjoyed this book and would love to see the characters developed in another series?? Please?

I was so delighted to see this on Netgalley as Sophie Kinsella has been my favourite author for a long time. This is a stand alone novel about a woman called Fixie who runs the family shop with some interference from her siblings. After a chance encounter in a coffee shop she finds herself being owed a favour by a successful businessman. It's a warm and witty read that I flew through in less than a day. Fans of Sophie Kinsella will appreciate it for her unique style of storytelling.

A lighthearted and at times humourous story about Fixie the youngest member of the Farr family. This is an ideal book for a snowy winters day or holiday read as in true Sophie Kinsella style, it is an easy read. Definitely an escape with characters to relate to, get annoyed with, love and root for.

Sophie Kinsella always comes through with the unexpected and fresh . Though she's surrounded by some family members who seem absolutely dreadful, Fixie is committed to her family and their shop. While her brother and sister try to use the kitchenware and general store for their own ends - selling £100 oil and getting rid of stock to hold yoga classes, Fixie holds true to the store and its staff. A long-term crush and an ethical entrepreneur are on hand to heat things up and add more complications, but it is coming to terms with her own strong personality that is Fixie's hardest project. Oh, and I love her best friend - hilarious!

I Owe You One by Sophie Kinsella a five-star read that will Fixie you. I am gonna be honest, for the first half of this novel I was struggling, and I wouldn’t even give it four-stars, but the second half just made me feel like I couldn’t put it down, I went from wanting to thump everyone to wanting to hug them and fixie them back together again. Coffee and IOU’s will make you love this story, Seb will push you and Ryan will push you further, and Fixie will do what Fixie always does and fixies everyone in her life. We could all do with a little Fixie in our lives. Sophie Kinsella is a compelling writer, if someone buys this one for you then you will owe them more than one.

I just love Sophie Kinsella, although I will admit that I haven't read one of her books in years.

I Owe You One was just a perfect read.

Fast paced, witty and filled with a great romance.

Sophie has a unique writing style and I think if I'd not known the author before reading I would have guessed it was her.

Her novels are like being re-introduced to old friends, easy going but still packing a punch.

I loved the protagonist as I felt I could relate to a lot of her behaviours, the anxieties that she clearly felt.

If you are looking for something humorous with a touch of love thrown in, then this is the story for you.

This is my first book by Sophie Kinsella therefore I had no expectations from this story at all. The book was very easy to get into and I read this quickly. I loved the characters especially Seb who came across very genuine throughout. In fact I am 100% certain that I read this book with a smile on my face the whole time as I found it to be such a lovely feel good story with a lovely outcome.

I also giggled along with Fixie when she got herself into a pickle once or twice!

I will definitely be seeking out more books by Sophie.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this advanced copy in exchange for a honest review.
