I feel like this book would have been more aptly named "Standing on God's Promises". This book is packed with truths from God's Word and reminders of His promises to his people. I find great value in reminding myself of who God is when I am feeling anxious and afraid. I have been fighting an ongoing anxiety for the last 16 years. What I would have liked to have read in this book...more practical tools and techniques for the daily battle against fear for those times when recalling God's promises isn't working and you still feel bereft and uneasy or for those times when you are too anxious to focus on God's promises. Altogether a valuable read, encouraging, steeped in truth. I would recommend to anyone who needs reminders of our gracious God who is worthy of our reverent fear, worship and praise.

Fight Your Fears will be available for purchase from your local or online book retailer February 18, 2020.

"We will continue to struggle with fear in this life"
Speaker and writer Kristen Wetherell presents the topic of not only dealing with fears, but fighting them in her book: "Fight Your Fears. Trusting God's Character and Promises When You Are Afraid", published by Bethany House Publishers. The book is divided into three sections: !) The problem of fear, 2) God who is worthy to be feared, and 3) God's precious and great promises. Every chapter starts with a quote from the Bible but Wetherell but even more, she uses the Bible to support her whole development of the topic. Examples from her own life and stories of others add to the discussion. In every chapter Wetherell answers two questions: "How is this promise fulfilled in Jesus?" and "With the help of Christ, how can I learn to trust this promise?"At the end of each chapter Wetherell wants the readers to get practical in the segment "Learning to Trust". She has adapted four concepts from the Puritan preacher John Flavel: 1) Ponder, 2) Preserve, 3) Prepare, and 4) Pray. This segment contains reflection questions, Bible references, and a prayer.
Wetherell touches a topic with her book that is a reality for everybody. She admits in the introduction that she is a fearful person. Her goal is not to turn readers into fearless people. Instead she states that knowing Jesus is the primary aim for Christians. I appreciate her openness and highly recommend her book to everybody who wants to reflect about and deal with their own fears. The two appendices "Recommended Books" (to grow in fighting fear) and "Scripture Memory Cards" with key verses from the book, as well as the notes at the end of the book can be a help for research and further study on this journey. The book also makes a nice present for others who want to deal with their fears.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through Apricot Services and NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a book everybody needs to read. Everybody has something they fear and anxiety about something going on in their life. This book teaches you to trust in God's promises with scriptures, a memory verse and a prayer at the end of each chapter. The author makes it very clear at the beginning, that this book will not take away your fears and anxiety, but with God's help each day can be better, if you turn it over to God . This is a book I will read more than once. Thank you Kristen Wetherell for writing this book and being so open and honest about your life. Thank you Bethany House via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

Couldn't have come across this book at a better time in my life. Certain areas really spoke to me. What I benefited from the most is at the end of each section, there are activities, such as scriptures to memorize and questions. I read this in ebook format and know I will be reviewing sections as needed for strength for a long time to come. A blessing to all who read.

What if...

I loved this book so much, it's almost as if the author Kristen Wetherell has been eavesdropping on the conversations my circle has been having lately. While we'd like to think we're brave, or that we know how to become fearless, at some point we have to ask ourselves... then why am I still so fearful about many things. My future, my kid's futures, my health and the list could go on and on.

What I quickly realized reading this book that I've (and probably you too since you're interesting in this title) been going about this quest for fearlessness the wrong way.

If you've ever read 2 Timothy 1:7 and asked yourself, "If God hasn't given me the spirit of fear, then why am I so fearful all the time and why haven't I been able to do something about it?".... This book is for you.

Using sound scripture the author lays out a good argument as to the root of our fear and worries and how to go about kicking it for good. I can't wait to do a book study with my small group.

“The root of our problem with fear isn’t that we are too afraid, but that we aren’t afraid enough of the God who is worthy to be feared.”
Fight Your Fears beautifully walks the reader through common paralyzing fears and clearly points to attributes of God in response. My favorite feature of the book is the “Learning to Trust” section at the conclusion of each chapter. This section of the chapter covers a verse to memorize, a questions to ponder, and a prayer. Fight Your Fears is an excellent resource to routinely reference throughout seasons of life.

I found this book helpful, easy to read. I like that she posted scriptures and had great prompts in asking us to memorize them. I like the subject matter. It was unique, informative, and authentic. The title made it sound like it was about one thing, but the book had so much more in it. It was unexpected and intelligent.

In this book, she points us to who God is in the midst of our fears. As someone who struggles with anxious thoughts this book was a welcome addition to my reading list.

We can trust God because He is who He says He is. When we have worries and fears, we can turn to Him with those. She shows us how to have a fear of the Lord and not the worries of this world.

This is a message I need everyday! With anxiety had an all time high this is also a much needed book.

If you struggle with worry, fear, anxious thoughts, this a great read for you.

I was blessed to receive an electronic copy via the publisher. All thoughts are my own.

For the last four years I’ve been fighting some fears of making new friends, attending parties with unfamiliar people, and driving far distances by myself. These fears have limited my ability to grow my business and prevented me from attending amazing parties to make new friends.

I received an email asking for people to join the book launch team for Fight Your Fears, by Kristen Wetherell. Pondering for a few moments, I reflected how I’ve had different fears as I’ve gotten older. Making new friends and going to parties with unfamiliar people is where I once thrived! Lately, it seems I’ve gained new fears. Reading about fighting these fears seemed a great idea!

Fight Your Fears is full ways to overcome fears with scripture for support. The examples provided are those of the author, her family, friends, and acquaintances. Kristen Wetherell excellently brings these ideas together beautifully!

At the end of each chapter is a place to reflect with a scripture to memorize, additional reading to support the idea, and questions to answer. There is also a written prayer that readers may read quietly or aloud.

It’s amazing how going through an amazing book to fight my fears can do for my life! Now I have the tools I can use to fight my own fears that I encounter!

Fight Your Fears by Kristen Wetherell was provided complimentary in exchange for an honest review. I give this book 5 out of 5 tiaras! This review is originally posted for #bookslattesandtiaras.

Fear is such a powerful emotion. It can control you. The author does a great job and discussing this issue and turning you to scripture to help walk through it. I will use this in my counseling
Thanks for the advanced copy to netgalley and the publisher. This is my own opinion.

I have really enjoyed reading this book! If you've recognized that fear has been a roadblock for you, this book is perfect for you! Even if you have fears unrecognized as such, this book will help you bring them out into the open so you can deal with them in a biblical manner! Kristen Wetherell approaches fear in a very biblical manner, even including scripture memory verses to help combat fear when it encroaches on you. She first explains the problem of fear, even pointing out some things we may not have recognized as fear in our lives. Then she tells who God is in relation to our fear. Finally, she reminds us of God's promises to us and how He will take care of us.

4.5 stars

I loved the message of this one! I almost didn't pick it up because I don't view myself as a particularly fearful person; but a couple of other reviewers mentioned that the message wasn't only for the fearful. I tried it out and found them correct.

The content is mostly geared toward encouraging the reader to take their eyes off the chasms at their feet and place their eyes on the things of God--of His promises and assurances. This is a message that all of us need to hear, fear or not. Kristen Wetherell does a great job of putting together Scriptures and quotes from recognized church leaders in order to illustrate her points. If any of you are facing fear or any sort of uncertainty, this book is an excellent encouragement to pick up. I'd also recommend it to young believers and those who need to get some basic encouragement in the faith. It's not long to read and each chapter has an applicable memory verse to remember it by.

The only drawbacks were that the problem of evil seemed to be brought up to be dismissed rather summarily rather than pointing out the obvious application (that there are lots of other sinners in the world whose choices easily affect those around them; that the earth is not meant to mimic Heaven by giving us a happy or easy life; etc) and I'd have liked to see that driven home a bit better...but all the other issues raised are really well done. At the end is a list of books for further reading to understand God better, and that list skews heavily toward Calvinist heavyweights who are nowhere near as approachable to read as Wetherell's book is; so I'd suggest skipping some of the "books on theology" and instead checking out the "books about dealing with ill health" etc--the more specialized lists.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free reading copy. A favorable review was not required.

I love how Wetherell doesn't beat around the bush and promise to tell you the 'secrets' of life, only later in the book, as some do. Instead, remarkably, she tells you her main points right away.

Many of us had negative experiences with our upbringing, We might have had negative Christian role models, especially the absent, abusive or highly critical father figure, which could have led us to projecting these characteristics onto God. This made me think of my own childhood, and how the consequences of not reciting prayers and religious rules in the exact order and word for word would mean failing Religion throughout elementary, middle and high school. For many people, older people threatened us that we would go to hell if we are not well-behaved kids.

We think of God as this mystical, intimidating figure as if we don't know what He wants from us. However, God told us exactly who He is in the Bible. It's all in His word.

Wetherell proceeds with telling the reader what to do when you fear not being enough. Fear not having enough. Not being in control. Failing. Loneliness. Death. All of these are natural feelings, but as Christians we have the privilege of being told the recipes for life in the Bible.

"Fight Your Fears" is an excellent tool to dealing with difficult times as a Christian. It is a soothing yet down-to-earth guide without unnecessary fluff which self-help books tend to have.

I received an ARC from Bethany House Publishers, via NetGalley. This review is my opinion.

What I like about this book is that it gives you exactly what it says, a wise counsel in front of several types of fears. I found interesting and since then I’ve prayed for that on how the problem in our lives is actually not the fears, but that we do not fear God and that has taking us to have distortions in how we live and see our world. We all have fears, some more than others. In this book, you will find practical(not magical) and powerful bible verses to help you fight each lie with God’s truth found in the Bible.

I took this book because I have a friend who is always afraid of everything, she is a believer but anyway she struggles with fear. I think we must understand this topic in order to love well others. I read before the book "Hope when it hurts" by Kristen Wetherell as well (coauthor). It is amazing how life changes us and circumstances move our little world and new fears arise. Hopefully this book gets into the right hands.
