Her Seafaring Scoundrel, is book three of the Crawfords series which is about three triplet brothers finding love without wanting to. Cpt. Devlin Crawford who is home from traveling the world, had good intentions but makes a faux pas which brings about big circumstances. While attending a ball, he overhears a baroness disrespecting his family friend, Lady Cassandra Moor. As we know in those times battles of words in polite society can often make the situation worst. Hence Devlin having to declare that Cassandra is his affianced. That was not the right move to silence the waging tongues of course. Devlin once calm does not think that marriage to Cassandra will be a horrendous task after all. Cassandra however who had been engaged to Timothy, whom she deemed her true love doesn’t want or leave room in her heart for falling in love again. To make matters worse, in anticipation of their vows they had not waited for marriage, when tragically, Timothy was killed in an accident on his way to the church on their wedding day. Cassandra’s grieves and finding out she was to have their child, eased her burden. Now, disowned by her parents it is her brother who has set her up with home and hearth, where she lives quietly with her daughter and several orphaned children. Her visits to town always has her being shunned and gossiped about but she’s content living away from society loving her child and caring for the children.
Devlin thinks that there’s always been a subtle attraction between them and he counts on that to form the basis of their union and the steps to finding love. However, boy oh boy does Cassandra make that hard? Throughout the book we have Devlin pressing his suit, but she remains unmoved until Penny states how much she likes Devlin, and that she’d love him as a father. The new family sets out on a voyage to see the world where one would think romance would bloom, but nope. Even though Devlin constantly shows her care and attention for his new wife and their daughter Penny she does not move towards letting herself love him. Seemingly due to the memory of her lost love and clinging to the idea of faithfulness, she can’t love Devlin and it becomes ridiculous. I started getting annoyed with her point blank. No one would want the person they love to wither away and be alone if love truly existed there. Once I settled into that mindset the rest of the book became highly annoying to me.
The book continues on with them going through struggles after struggles and her just running away it seems instead of grabbing at the possibility of happiness and love with both arms. It becomes clear that Sophie Barnes had in her heroine a damaged individual who has a lot of growing up to do and whose child held most of family’s wisdom for her tender age. Penny and Devlin are the reason that I give this book four stars instead of three as they make it worth reading.

Devlin has no plans to marry, but when he ends up at a ball and someone criticizes Cassandra, he won't let it go. He stands up to the woman and announces that Cassandra is his fiancée. When he informs Cassandra about what transpired, she is not happy and travels to her home. What is Devlin to do, but follow her...

After being shunned by society for having a child out of wedlock, Cassandra never imagined that she would get married. But when Devlin announces to the biggest gossip that they are to be married she eventually rethinks the idea. Her daughter already loved Devlin and he makes a good case for the marriage, so she agrees to wed him. But she has conditions for their marriage...

Neither wanted this marriage, but Devlin soon realizes that he wants it to be a marriage in truth. Can he woo his wife to his way of thinking?

I loved Devlin and Cassandra's story!! I loved how Devlin interacted with Cassandra's daughter. He was so good with her!! I think that kind of helped Cassandra change her mind about Devlin and start to see him in a new light. It was a nice change of pace to have the man really want the marriage to work and he try to convince the woman to give it a go. I like watching Devlin "give chase" to Cassandra.

This was a great ending to a wonderful series!! If you've not read it, do so now!!

I just loved this book. Having met Cass and Dev in previous books in the series, I was happy to see them finally get their own story. I enjoyed it from beginning to end and will definitely be recommending it.
Thank you Sophie Barnes and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.

I absolutely adored this story as much if not more than the first two in this series. Once I began I was drawn in quickly and could not wait to see what would happen with Devlin and Cassandra.
Devlin, the Captain of his ship, loved the life on the water and being at sea. He felt that marriage was not for him because he did not want to give it up. Deep inside he is scarred from his father's treatment, but he truly cares for his crew and his family. Loves his nieces and nephews and he really pulled at my heart!
Cassandra is a friend of his sister in laws and has helped develop and run the orphanage they have together. She cannot get past the loss of the man she loved, who had tragically been killed before their wedding. but had left her with a child of their anticipated wedding day. That had been over twelve years ago and she still let it drive her life.
But fate steps in and brings the two together, as they travel a winding journey for them both to heal and find that true love can happen no matter how much you resist!
I adore this author's writing and look forward to each brilliant book she creates! Wonderful!

Her Seafaring Scandal is an enjoyable romance novel that had me sucked in from start to finish.
Devlin Crawford is the captain of a ship that sails around the world for 9 months at a time before returning to England for 1 month. On his return he accidentally declares that he wants to marry Cassandra after a Baroness talks badly of her at a ball and he wants to defend her honour.
Cassandra is a mother with an illegitimate daughter after she had indiscretions with her fiance the day before their wedding. Unfortunately her fiance died on the way to the church so she has been left to raise her daughter Penelope with the mirth of society on her for 12 years. And she vows to never be with another man as she loved him too much.
At first Cassandra doesn't want to marry Devlin but she soon comes to the conclusion it's the right thing to do for her daughter. After their wedding Devlin, Cassandra and Penelope head off on a 9 month journey to Australia and back where they really find out what it's like to be married with issues involving love, loss and life choices.
The book does jump in time quite a bit especially towards the end so you can see how their relationship turns out.l which can leave you a little wanting. Their is also very little lovemaking in this book and what their is skips over any saucy bits anyway so it's extremely tame in that regard.
Overall I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading the 2 previous books in the Crawford series.
Thanks to Netgalley.com and Sophie Barnes for providing me with this digital review copy.

Pros- it is well written, an interesting storyline, some likable characters, you dont need to have read the previous books in the series to enjoy
Cons- time jumps alot which leads to some brokenness of the storyline, Penelope's dialogue seems way to old for a girl of twelve, odd romantic scenes (or I should say there is a hint of romance awkwardly presented)

I'm torn with this book from 'meh' to 'oh I liked it!'. Overall, I did enjoy this book although it was a bit disjointed with the time jumps and back and forth, a lot of dialogue but most of it didnt detract. The premise was good although I found Devlin far too pushy in some scenes which didnt fit when he was so considerate in others. There was not enough romance for being labelled as a romance book I thought. The bedroom scenes were really awkward, starts out tenderly then just ends (not that I need a graphic play by play but they just didnt feel romantic to me).

3.5 stars rounded to 4, not bad, some good points but not outstanding.

My thanks to the publisher for an advanced copy, all opinions are my own

Thanks go to the author and Net Galley for a complimentary copy of Her Seafaring Scoundrel for the purpose of reading and reviewing prior to publication. A Regency romance and book 3 The Crawfords. My opinions are my own and no one has influenced me in any way.

Her Seafaring Scoundrel is an emotionally charged reading experience with engaging character and an intriguing plot. The pacing is fantastic and kept me enmeshed in the story from start to finish.

Lady Cassandra’s character is endearing. She stole my heart from the start. She has not had an easy time. Her betrothed died days before their marriage and she found out she carried his child. Her parents and society cast her off. Her brother buys her cottage where she takes in orphans and other women who find themselves in a similar situation to her. She spends her life running her orphanage and her daughter. She will do anything to ensure Penelope’s happiness.

Devlin Crawford is our hero and is a great character. He’s spent years roaming the high seas, never spending more than a few weeks in England. When he arrives at his brother’s ducal residence, he agrees to attend his ball. He defends Lady Cassandra’s honor and informs the gossip they are betrothed. Although he has no plans to live in England, he does want to protect Cassandra. He has admired her from afar for years.

The romance between Cassandra and Devlin is a rocky road with plenty of emotions going on between them. Cassandra has mourned her Timothy and doesn’t want a true marriage, but the attraction between her and Devlin is too strong to ignore. There’s fantastic sexual tension between them. There’s a totally unexpected twist, which makes this a fantastic read!

If you enjoy Regency romance with amazing characters and an emotionally charged plot, then you will love Her Seafaring Scoundrel as much as I. Ms. Barnes is a talented author, and I’m so glad I agreed to read this. It had been some time since I’d read one of her books. I will be reading the prior books in this great series. Happy reading!

This was a good story. I wasn't in love with it. It didnt bowl me over. It didnt blow me away. It was a cute, light love story. It had no villain.
There were alot of emotional issues. Parental issues, relationship issues and then morning the death of a loved one.
I felt the dealing of issues sidetracked the love story.
But overall it was a good read. 31/2 stars rounded up to 4.
I want to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book.

I received Her Seafaring Scoundrel in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoy historical romance books with an ocean/ship nexus. This book did not disappoint. Devlin was such a great character. He was compassionate, non contentious, and honest to a fault. Do those type of men even exist? Cassandra was equally as fun to read about. Her finance was killed the night before their wedding, and she was left with an illegitimate child. It took her a long time, but she finally accepted her finance's fate and decided to move on with Devlin, just to find out that Devlin's past may destroy their marriage. This was such a great twist to the plot. Overall, this book was well thought out, contained great characters, and was well written. I would definitely recommend this book to friends and family, and I look forward to reading more of Sophie Barnes' books.

Devlin Crawford has sailed back to London after a 10-month voyage. He loves his life visiting foreign countries and bringing back exotic items to sell.

Devlin is brother to Caleb, the Duke of Camberly, with whom he stays when in port. His mother is always after him to get married and settle down, but he is adamant that he loves this life. At her request, he attends a soiree where his old friend, Cassandra, is attending. When an older woman makes disparaging remarks about her, Devlin is incensed and tells the woman that she is going to be his wife. Afterward, he realizes that he will now need to propose to her.

Cassandra had become pregnant by her fiancé who was killed just before their wedding. Her daughter, Penelope, is now 12-years-old and Cassandra has been ostracized by her family and many of her friends. Some members of the Crawford family, along with Cassandra, formed an orphanage on a large estate outside town. Here is where Cassandra flees and Devlin follows her. Now, he must convince her to marry him.

They do marry and Devlin, Cassandra, and Penelope all agree to go on a 10-month voyage aboard Devlin’s ship. There, they face some typical and unfortunate events onboard the ship. In addition, the enforced togetherness of this couple results in some changes. I’ll leave that to your imagination.

I found this to be an interesting story with some great descriptions. I compliment the author on the enormous amount of research she must have done to write this book. I liked Devlin and found him possessing much more patience that I would have. Penelope is also a sweetheart. Cassandra, on the other hand, came across as a shrew during most of the story. I simply did not like her character.

Lady Cassandra Moor and Captain Devlin Crawford have the absolute worst timing in the world. They have managed to be in the wrong place at the exact right time to screw up each other’s lives entirely too often – even before they first met.

A propensity that is almost their undoing, and more than once.

They’ve been friends, or at least friendly acquaintances, for years by the time that this story opens. Dev is the younger brother of the heroes of the previous two books in this series, while Cass is the sister-in-all-but-blood of the women that Dev’s siblings have married. Of course they know each other.

(Although this is the third book in the series you certainly don’t have to have read either of the other two to enjoy this one. I haven’t but I had a lovely time with Dev and Cass – even when they were at odds with each other.)

As the story opens, neither Cass nor Dev have any intention of marrying – not each other, not anyone. Dev is the captain of his own ship and spends 10 months of the year – if not a bit more – sailing between Portsmouth and India. He loves sailing, he loves travel, and the more he travels the more absurd he finds the ton and all of its silly, petty rules.

He neither wants to be tied to England by marrying, nor does he want to leave a wife and most likely children to manage without him for months at a time. He’d be a visitor in his own life and he’s just not interested in doing that to either himself or the hypothetical wife.

Cassandra Moor, on the other hand, had her chance at happily wedded bliss and missed it by a few measly hours. Literally. Her groom was run over by a carriage on his way to the church for their wedding. That tragedy was compounded by their having anticipated their wedding vows, leaving Cassandra bereaved, pregnant and abandoned by her oh-so-proper family.

Her daughter is the light of her life. She has no regrets on that score. And no desire to replace her beloved Timothy in either her heart or her bed.

But the machinations of Dev’s matchmaking mother put Dev and Cass at a society ball that neither of them had any desire to attend. Dev promised his mother he’d dance one – and only one – dance before retreating to the card room. He chooses to dance with Cass, a friend who will not chase after him with a matchmaking mama of her own.

And that’s where it all goes pear-shaped. Only it turns out to be, not a pear, but an absolutely perfect peach of a mistake. That leads to a surprising happy ever after for Devlin, Cass and especially Cass’ 12-year-old daughter Penelope – who has been matchmaking along with the best of them!

Escape Rating B: If you are in the mood for light fluffy romance – with just a touch of angst happily resolved – in the current real life crisis, then Her Seafaring Scoundrel may be just the rogue you’re looking for!

Because this is a delicious little romance with not just a very unconventional heroine – those seem to be in these days – but with an equally unconventional hero. It’s not just that Cass is “ruined” or that she runs an orphanage, but that she’s completely unrepentant about the whole thing. She doesn’t enjoy being the censure of society, and therefore doesn’t expose herself to it often, but she likes her life as it is. And she likes herself as she is, too. The angst of this story doesn’t come from Cass lamenting that she’s not worthy because she has an illegitimate child, but rather that she is still dealing with her very real grief at the loss of the man she loved and expected to marry.

Maybe she clings to that grief a bit too hard, but that’s human.

Dev’s father wasn’t any happier with him than Cass’ parents were with her. Dev went to sea to escape, and to make a life for himself at something he’s good at. In spite of his father’s censure. Like Cass, he clings to that need to escape too tightly, long after it has ceased to serve him.

Or them. Because the story here is of Cass and Dev falling in love with each other after his impulsive and ill-advised announcement of their engagement. An engagement which, at the moment he made his precipitous announcement, did not exist.

But they are friends, and there are worse bases for marriage. A life spent traveling the high seas, seeing places that few English men or women ever get to see, is also one hell of an inducement.

That they fall in love is inevitable. With each other, and with the life they can have together. The reasons that they almost ruin it before it has truly begun lead back to their mutually terrible timing.

But they survive the storm. All the storms. They get past the dark clouds and don’t merely survive, but thrive. Together. With a happy ever after that has all the fluff that a reader could possibly desire.

Neither Cass nor Dev has any intention of marrying anyone much less each other. De Lin has just returned from another successful voyage when he he is coerced into attending a ball by his mother. Cassandra has been an outcast of the Ton for the past 12 years since her fiancé died on the day of their wedding and then she later found she was with child. The two have been friends since they met. When Devlin defends her honor in her absence at the ball they find themselves marrying. Both are tortured by mistakes they have made in the past but it takes a 12 year old girl and a good friend to set them on the path to healing. This is a great love story that shows the depth we will go from the ones we truly love. The series is about three brothers who are triplets and they fall in love with three best friends. Romance is guaranteed and hearts will melt.

Captain Devlin Crawford is briefly at home between his around the world, commercial sea voyages. While attending a ball, he overhears a shrewish baroness disrespecting family friend, Cassandra. When the self righteous woman won’t back down, even when directly confronted by Devlin, he boldly declares that Cassandra is to become his wife. While this statement has the desired effect of silencing the gossiping harpy, it also stuns his family and friends, many of whom were watching the scene unfold. As Devlin starts to calm down, he begins to think that marriage with Cassandra might not be so bad after all. She’s a dear friend, lovely, and there’s always been a subtle undertone of attraction between them. He knows, though, that he has an uphill battle to convince his “fiancée.”

Many years ago, Cassandra Moor was engaged to Timothy, a man she loved deeply. Their love just couldn’t wait for marriage, and they anticipated their vows. Tragically, Timothy was killed in an accident while on his way to the church for the wedding. Cassandra’s pain and grief eased somewhat, as she found out she was to have a child. Her parents, however, were not overjoyed, and disowned her. Cassandra’s brother set her up with a home, where she lived quietly with her daughter, as well as several orphaned children she housed there. Her infrequent visits to town always had her being shunned by her parents, and gossiped about. Cassandra is content to live away from society, mourning her lost love, and caring for the children.

When Cassandra learns of her “engagement,” she is stunned, and can’t imagine what Devlin was thinking, and doesn’t hesitate to let him know her feelings. Devlin presses his suit, emphasizing how beneficial the marriage would be for her illegitimate daughter, Penelope. When Penny enters the discussion, stating how fond she is of Devlin, and how she’d love him as a father, Cassandra is defeated. She does, however, have terms of her own. This will be a marriage in name only with no intimacy. Surprisingly, Devlin agrees, and the couple marries. The new family sets out on a voyage to see the world.

There is so much to love about Devlin. He showers care and attention on his new wife and stepdaughter, teaching them about his life on the sea. Though he will never force the issue, Devlin has confidence that his charm will win over Cass, and that she’ll come to share his bed. He never realized how deeply ingrained her devotion to Timothy still is. Whenever Dev makes progress, any desire Cass feels sends her whirling in a cloud of guilt. At first I admired her steadfastness, but it quickly got old, and I was thoroughly irritated with her. I wanted to urge her not to bury herself with Timothy while she still had many years of life to live.

As I got to know Cass better, I learned that she is a logical woman, as well as one who feels deeply. She needs to work things through at her own pace, and look at the facts behind the emotions. When Cass finally allows herself to feel passion again, I was so thrilled for this couple, thinking the happy ever after was forthcoming. But it was not to be. Hurdle after hurdle appears for this couple every time it seems that there issues and problems are resolved. It almost seems like fate is conspiring against them.

I became totally engrossed in HER SEAFARING SCOUNDREL and its main characters. I love Devlin for being such an upstanding, honest, caring man. His relationship with Penny is truly beautiful, and I admire his strength in standing up against a bigoted society whose rules of conduct ensure that anyone who crosses a toe over the line is a pariah. Cass is definitely stubborn, but she can be reasoned with, and her care of her daughter is stellar. You know that once you win her love, you will have it forever. As for Penny, this young lady is wise beyond her young years. She played a major part in this story, and is truly delightful. HER SEAFARING SCOUNDREL will appeal to readers who love a slow building romance which has to overcome many obstacles along the way.

Since losing the love of her life just before their wedding, Lady Cassandra has had no desire to marry. Her daughter and the orphanage she helps run are enough for her. But when a family friend, Captain Lord Devlin Crawford, causes another scandal involving her and offers to marry her, she knows she must accept for her daughter's sake. Cassandra's agreement comes with the caveat that she and Devlin will never have a true marriage and she makes sure he understands that. Though she's unwittingly attracted to him, Cassandra is determined to be faithful to her first love.

Devlin can't believe the mess he's made of things in the short time he's been on shore. But the more he thinks about it, the more marrying Cassandra actually seems like a good idea. He just has to convince her of that, a task made all the more difficult by the fact that even after 13 years she still mourns her first love. Luckily Devlin has a months-long ocean voyage to attempt to woo his wife.

I enjoyed this book on the whole, but I've got some mixed feelings. I liked Devlin immensely. Far from being a scoundrel, he was a truly good man who always seemed to be doing his best to do the right thing. I'm not sure Cassandra deserved him or the enormous amount of patience and persistence he gave her. There were many times she just needed a good shake and a reality check. I can appreciate her trying to stay loyal to the memory of her first love, but once she said vows to Devlin I expected her to at least start showing some loyalty to them and I found the fact that she really didn't to be rather hypocritical. As hard as Devlin tried to make things work between them, it was like she was working twice as hard to keep them apart. Her reactions to Devlin's attempts to foster closeness were a bit over the top and I think she drew out her grieving to an extent that it lost some of its meaning. Cassandra kept distancing herself from Devlin for too long and it became a bit tedious in a story that's already a slow burn and her unwillingness to help Devlin with his own struggles with guilt made me dislike her and made her come off as self-centered and focused solely on her own issues. Although she does admit to this selfishness a bit, it was a case of too little too late for me. I did love the fact that both Cassandra and Devlin marched to the beat of their own drums despite the censure of their parents and society. Devlin's relationship with and acceptance of Penelope was lovely, in fact I think at times he accepted her more than her own mother did. This was a sensual, not quite steamy read, but it worked here. Overall, I did enjoy this story and found it to be a satisfying end to the series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was an enjoyable book to read. It had a good storyline and interesting characters. I thought it was easy to read and enjoyed especially the description of the storm which was quite frightening. There was a happy ending and recommend the book to be read.

This book was such a delightful read with the well written storyline and characters that were so well defined that as I turned each and every page I felt like Devlin and Cassandra pulled me right into their journey!

I’m giving this book a five star rating mostly because it had a fabulous epilogue. I always fall in love with an epilogue. We don’t have any real villain see year but we do have some very good characters in the adventures they go on are delightful. There’s wonderful romance, soft not a Erotic. Couple that with A wonderful story and you have a book that you do not wanna miss

I love Ms. Barnes’ writing style. It flows well, the characters are engaging, the secondary characters are memorable and the love story is so beautiful. This story has all of that and a slow burn romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The love that Cassandra has for her lost love is not diminished but instead it is brought to the forefront and handled with complete honesty and compassion. Devlin and Cass are perfect for each other. If you like slow burns and light on the sensual side (nothing explicit) then this is a story for you. I will admit I also cried a fair bit while reading this story. And the epilogue is….ahhhh, just so lovely and beautiful.

Captain Devlin Crawford comes to Lady Cassandra's rescue by defending her and blurts out she's going to marry him , only she doesn't know it yet. He's already half in love with her. The only thing standing in her way to love him is the torch she carries for the man she's held in her heart for thirteen years. It's a shaky beginning. Maybe a voyage for several months can change her mind to love him.
Devlin can only hope. There is a secret that may destroy his chance. Emotional and I was definitely rooting for Devlin. Love the epilogue. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Her Seafaring Scoundrel
By Sophie Barns was a delectable read. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was so good!! Devlin puts his foot in his mouth and to right it, he convinces lady Cassandra to marry him but only if they don’t consummate the marriage. Cassandra feels disloyal to her deceased one true love and can’t bare to give her love to another man. Devlin is an amazing character I couldn’t help but love him. He is hardworking, loving, strong, and a great captain. With all that how is Cassandra to stay loyal to Timothy? Cassandra is also a great and complex character. I felt sad for her , she had fought for herself and her child for so long with very little help along the way and to get through it all she put Timothy on a pedestal. It was a treasure to watch these two characters grow and change through the book to the end. Thank you for a great book!!

🌸How do you move on after your first love passes away and open your heart again? 🌸
🌺Her Seafaring Scoundrel, The Crawford Series by Sophie Barnes, release date April 28th, 2020🌺

💕Omg, so many emotions in this one and those are the books I love the most💕 I love the originality of this story with Cassandra’s daughter openly championing Devlin courting her mother ! I loved that Devlin has no qualms over Penelope not being his biological daughter and loves her fiercely. I felt the turmoil and guilt Cassandra experiences, between remaining loyal to her dead first love... Beautiful addition to The Crawford series, well done

I picked up The Governess Who Captured His Heart and When Love Leads to Scandal, available for free right now on iBooks. I loved this story. The writing is excellent as it draws you into the story and keeps your attention. Cass and Devlin are strong characters and together they make a strong couple considering both had vowed to never marry. Devlin, the don of a duke, left home to escape his father’s harsh treatment and Cass, daughter of an Earl, was disowned because she became pregnant and the groom was accidentally killed on their wedding day. Because Drvlin spoke out of turn and because Cass can not endure another scandal, she agrees to marry him but with restrictions, with the main one, they would be married in name only. There is a HEA but a lot happens first, with the main one bring the love they found for each other. This is an excellent story and I would highly recommend it as a great read.

I’ve always enjoyed the books at sea, it always adds an extra layer of intrigue to historical romances, and takes you away from the stuffy ton for a time. When Devlin returns home from his travels at sea for a short time, he’s roped into going to a ball by his mother, who is doing her utmost best to get him married, which is definitely not anything that interests Devlin. But when he’s talking to his brothers – he overhears a stodgy lady of the ton gossiping about Cass, a woman who has been scorned by society by having a child out of wedlock and a longtime friend of Devlin and his family. He confronts the gossiper and puts himself and Cass, into a situation.

I liked the characters, they were well matched, and secondary characters were spot on. There is a slow building romance and some humor to keep the reader smiling. The sex scenes were a bit lackluster, but for readers that prefer a cleaner romance, this one will fit that bill well. I also really enjoyed the epilogue that neatly wraps up this adventure.

4.5 Stars

Captain Devlin Crawford, was one of three, single, and loving with his nieces and nephews. He had just gotten back from a ten-month voyage at sea. He went to Camberly House where the eldest and a duke resided. He was informed by his mother, that Caleb and Mary were having a ball the following Saturday. He was expected to attend and have one dance. Of course, he could not say no.
Cassandra Moor is the daughter of the Earl of Vernon. She had been in love with Timothy and the day of their wedding he was in an accident and died. She was devastated and later found out she was with child. Her parents tried to get her to marry but she refused and they asked her to leave. She was lucky she had two friends who helped her. They had started an orphanage at Clearview, an estate two days ride from London. There she saw Devlin again. They had been friends throughout most of her life.
I found this story charming and in spots cried. The characters were excellent. They had such hope, caring, and loving. There are a few surprises, also some twists to the tale. It was entertaining and kept your interest. I read straight thru and loved it. It was exciting and thrilling. I most definitely recommend this novel and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

Will their past and inner woos doom their relationship from the future to come ...

Oh my, Devlin is such a charming devil, happy with his life but when its course is altered, he does. It falters, he chases after the right path.
He is far from perfect, he has his flaws and his scars, some well hidden behind his lopsided smile and his easygoing appearance and juggling with life’s obligations.
And whatever he tells himself, he loves with all his heart and soul. He might have ran away because of his father’s cruelty, he also rebuilt himself in a successful, confident and caring man. One who will protect those needing him, who will accept his fault and right them, who is not afraid to express his feeling.
To summarize, my heart rooted for him!

While I am not sure I liked Cassandra very much at the beginning, to be so devoted to the memory of her lost love appeared at first as lovely, but to cling for so long to the idea of faithfulness, so by the way sentencing herself to a whole life of loneliness, it was excessive.
Because here, we do not talk about a “widowhood” of a few months or a few years, but for thirteen years she had been hanging on the memory of her first love, tragically killed the day before their wedding.
Sure she was very young and she probably idealized him in an awesome hero, still it was like she closed every door hiding a new life opportunity for her.
I admired she raised from her ruination, giving a new meaning to her life, but I disagreed with her life penitence.
Plus I am not fond of people running away at every dent on their road. After it served as proof of Devlin’s dedication and commitment. Yet, her only answer to everything unsettling her is to run, she turns her back instead of facing it.
Why their journey sees her analyzing and pondering her ways, she has a lot of growing up to do and her daughter is the bearer of a lot of wisdom for her age, standing by her side but also demonstrating even if she lets go of the past, it won’t erase her memories.

Mrs Sophie Barnes once more brings together two damaged persons whom with the other will improve their strength and heal from their past wounds for a better future.

I received an ARC of the fantastic story " Her Seafaring Scoundrel" by the fabulous Sophie Barnes from Netgalley and the publisher. This is the third book in the series but can be read as a stand alone as well. Cassandra and Devlin take us on a journey full of twists and turns to come to their HEA. A great read!

Lady Cassandra gave her heart and herself to her fiancee before their wedding… tragically her fiancee, Timothy was accidentally killed on the way to the wedding. Now, thirteen years later, still loves the husband she lost… and the daughter he gave her.

Always fond of family friend, Lady Cassandra, Captain Devlin is honour bound to defend her at a ball and accidentally announces his engagement to her. Now he has to make that happen…

After successfully convincing a woman, who never wanted to marry to marry him, they along with her daughter venture forward on a grand ocean adventure and Devlin attempt to make his wife fall in love with him.

I really enjoyed the big hearted character of Devin, he was always so understanding and loving… as for Cassandra, I found her extreme devotion to her deceased fiancee a bit much. Thirteen years is a long time, especially when you have a new person in your life who is making you feel again. The daughter Penelope was. Fun addition and played well off of Devlin and Cassandra. Another bright spot was the sea adventure. It was great fun to read about life on the ship and see the characters grow together in this environment.

Her Seafaring Scoundrel by Sophie Barnes is scheduled to release April 28th, 2020.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from author Sophie Barnes through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I could not put this book down and read it straight through. Sophie Barnes is great at making the reader feel all of the emotions of her characters. Devlin and Cassandra were perfect together. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves romance.

Her Seafaring Scoundrel was a joy to read. I found I really liked Dev and Cassandra . I loved her daughter. I am hoping she will have a book, but she might not.
It is always nice when you like the two characters , it makes a book run faster.

I do wish that I could have learned more about why both Devlin and Cassandra had such terrible childhoods. I would have liked to read more of the back story, and also I would have enjoyed more of the romance when they had gotten to their destination. I felt like I missed something.

I don't want to give anything away, but it is absolutely worth it to read this, and my only regret is that I did not get to read the first two beforehand.

Thank you Sophie Barnes and NetGalley for letting me read and review this really fun book.

Another charming historical romance. I don't read these for the historical accuracies, but for the easy-to-escape nature of the books. It is easy to get caught up in the drama (melodrama?) and not have to think too much. I don't mean that as an insult because it totally isn't - sometimes you want nothing more than for a book to entertain you and this most definitely fits the bill with all the right swoon-factor.

What a great historical romance. The story was well-written and kept me hooked. Good solid charactrers and a wonderful romance.

Sophie Barnes is quickly becoming one of my favorite historical romance writers. I loved Her Seafaring Scoundrel from start to finish. It was one of those books I picked up planning to read just a few chapters and then ended up glued to the page for 10 chapters. Devlin and Cassandra a great characters who are so so easy to root for. I loved watching their relationship grow and change throughout the novel as they overcame their own demons and learned to move into the future. Devlin immediately embracing Penelope as not just his stepdaughter, but as his daughter made me love him all that much more. I could have done with one more chapter about Devlin coming to the decision that he wanted to stay in England with his family and done without the twist involving Devlin's role in Cassandra's former fiancé's death (it wasn't really necessary and didn't do much for the plot). I can't wait to see what Ms. Barnes comes out with next!

Her Seafaring Scoundrel is a wonderfully romantic and well written story of two people finding love and fighting their own natures to do it.
Devlin Christopher Benjamin Crawford is captain of his own ship. His brother Caleb, the Duke of Camberly and his other Brother Griffin had both married within the last six years and were both blessed with children. He loved being an uncle and brought each of the children gifts as often as possible. He, however, never intended to marry. He had run away to sea to avoid arguments with his disparaging father, who had since died.
Devlin had a first mate, Monty Quinn, who was not only a trustworthy seaman, he was also a best friend. As they docked in London, Monty let Devlin know that the next voyage would be his last. He no longer wanted to leave his family for months. Devlin understood, in fact, it was one of the reasons he never intended to marry. The conflict of settling down or leaving a family to pursue his dreams would be too difficult. He didn’t like the memories he had of London and his father, or the consequences of a fatal carriage accident he felt responsible for.
Lady Cassandra Moor is Viscount Aldridge’s sister. Her father and mother had disowned her when she became pregnant and her intended husband died on his way to the church. She remained devoted to her intended and refused to even consider marrying anyone else. Her brother bought her Clearview House in Cornwall and gave her a small stipend to raise her daughter Penelope. Cassandra, Mary (Devlin’s brother’s wife and duchess), Emily (Devlin’s other brother Griffin’s wife) were good friends and had lived and worked at Clearview House educating, feeding and housing five children to start with and had expanded.
I won’t go into all the details I absolutely hate spoilers. So, let me quickly set up the premise and let you find all the juicy details for yourself. I do promise, the devil is in the details and much more!
Skip to a ball that Caleb and Mary were hosting. Devlin’s mother talked him into attending with conditions. He was to attend, talk with a few women, dance at least one dance before he could leave.
You guessed it! He was friendly with Cassandra, as a friend of the family. He liked her but he thought he wasn’t the marrying type, and no woman would want to live aboard a ship, right? After they danced, he heard a prominent woman making disparaging remarks about Cassandra and ended up winning the argument by saying she was to be his wife. OOPS!
Okay, that’s all I’m going to give you! I’m so mean (chuckling evilly). Will she be angry? Can he convince her to marry and sail away with him? How will they ever settle their angst over previous love and settling down? Can they? And if you’ve ever read novels by Sophie Barnes, is there an unexpected twist?
OOOHHHH! Just read it and find out!
Another fine story by the talented Sophie Barnes!

I enjoyed this book--it's the 3rd in the series. I loved it so much, I went back and read the first 2. It has great characters, an interesting story line, and a little mystery to solve with the HEA... what's not to love. Don't miss this series!

This is a relatively light, lovely read and conclusion to a series. I did not read the first two parts of this series but that didn't stop me from enjoying this one! I will say, however, that while there is seafaring in this book - there isn't really much on the scoundrel front. I would much more classify Devlin as a very good guy.

Cassandra has had a difficult time of it. After anticipating her vows the night before her wedding, in tragic turn of events, her fiance was killed as he was headed to the chapel. Cassandra was devastated to lose the love of her life - but also ended up pregnant. As a result she has all the stigmas of the time as an unwed mother and her daughter is labeled a bastard.

Devlin left England to escape a very negative relationship with his father. Years later, long after his father's death he is still twitchy about spending time in England for more than a couple of weeks at a time. He is definitely an adventurer.

He and Cassandra seem like a missed connection over the years. Devlin's brothers have married Cassandra's best friends . But Cassandra and Devlin have been moving in opposite directions - despite a mutual attraction. Cassandra has also been extremely dedicated to the memory of her fiance - and has vowed to never love again. This make s for a very rocky and complicated road for the couple.

This book is definitely an exercise in communication and moving forward. Both Cassandra and Devlin need help and support with both things. I found this frustrating at times - it felt like neither character could move forward without intervention from outside forces (except for Devlin's decision at the end).

Overall this is a highly enjoyable story with a fun departure from England.

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all mine.

This is my fair and honest review, voluntarily given in my own words, for this ARC. I really enjoyed this book. It has very strong characters and such a wonderful tale. Well written. You would like this book too I think.

Her Seafaring Scoundrel kept me up half the night because I couldn't put it down!

Devlin is a captain of his own ship. He returns home for a few weeks at a time but has no intention of settling on dry land. Cassandra is a ruined single mother who has been cast out by society. The chemistry between them has always been undeniable however, each of them is stubbornly set in their own way. Can fate find a way?

I loved the fresh feeling of this story! The characters had such great chemistry and the love story felt natural and realistic. A fantastic slow-burn! Even though this is book three of The Crawfords series, it is the first book by Sophie Barnes that I have read. I had no issues following the plot as a standalone. If you are looking for a great romance to keep you hooked from the first to the last page. I would highly recommend Her Seafaring Scoundrel. I am planning on picking up the other book in the series that I have missed... that's how much I enjoyed it! I give it 5/5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

I recieved a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book. Don't judge but when that perfect moment happens, the one you are waiting for, holding your breath for, I was squeal. This book had several of those moments. Cassandra has made a life for herself and her daughter, the daughter that resulted in her being abandoned by her parents. The night before her wedding Cassandra slept with her fiancee but as fate would have it, her died on the way to the church, leaving her pregnant and unwed. Devlin has lived at sea since he was 18 after a fight with his father. Cassandra ends up married and leaving with Devlin on his next journey but only after laying out her demands, no sex not even a kiss. Penelope, Cassandra's daughter was definitely one of those precocious wise beyond her years characters but she was so sweet. I loved devlin so much. He was perfect and so sweet with both Penelope and cassandra. And even though I understood Cassandra's hesitation, I wanted to grab her and shake her. I loved this book and I love this author. Next book please.

This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Barnes and it was excellent. I really enjoyed Dev and Cass’s story. I loved the fact that the heroine had an illegitimate daughter and I loved Dev’s relationship with the little girl. This was just a really enjoyable book. It had a lot of adventure which I really like in my romance novels. I have been having a hard time concentrating on reading with everything that’s been going on in the world and this book was able to hold my concentration. I did think the daughter sounded too old for her age but it didn’t bother me that much. This book is definitely worth a read.

This book was an original in plot and ideas. The heroine is a single mother, daughter if an Earl and has brought disgrace to the family and a illegitimate daughter to raise on her own. Her beloved, Timothy, was killed in a tragic accident the day of their wedding. Cassandra was able to fight off family and friends who wanted her to marry quickly and foist off her child on her prospective groom. But instead, she chose to live with the shame. The hero is a merchant ship captain and has been on the sea's avoiding his father for over a decade. While they are family friends, they see each other very rarely. They marry because the hero was defending her honor. Original, right?? I truly enjoyed the lovely characters and how they worked through their problems.
The book was very well written. The story and plot were unexpected and the epilogue was a surprise. It was very smooth to read with few slow areas. There is action, but no intrigue. The grammar and spelling were on point. The characters were dimensional and real. This book is supposed to be part of a series (the hero is one of a set of triplets) but I read this book first and did not miss the others at all. I will probably read them now based on well written this book is. I highly recommend this book. 5 stars

I love this story. I didn't read the first 2 books in the series but it was easy to follow. It seems that characters from previous books make appearance in this book. So readers of her previous books would be excited to see them again.

The main characters are both great. I enjoyed the dialogue and the interactions between them. The little girl is cute too. :) Great characters. :) The ending was terrific too.

Her Seafaring Scoundrel
Series: The Crawfords, 3rd book
Rating: 5 stars

Thank you to the publisher for the ARC given through NetGalley for an honest review.

This was a great story! I have not read the previous two books in the series but it was not a problem when reading this one. Characters from the previous books appear but it easy to understand who they are to our two main characters.
This is a story of friends to lovers and marriage of convenience between Captain Devlin Crawford and Lady Cassandra. I loved Devlin! He was such a great character and had so much patience with Cassandra, since she was having a difficult time letting go of her feelings of guilt about what happened 13 years ago. He has such a big heart and I loved the relationship he had with Penelope, Cass' daughter. She would side with Devlin to help him out with her mom. It took him a while for Cassandra to finally admit that she had feelings for him and to not feel guilty about it. When certain truths came out, their relationship was put to the test, but in the end honesty and love helped them overcome these troubled times.
I enjoyed the epilogue. It was very sweet to see them still enjoying their HEA after some years.

This Devlin and Cassandra’s story. Devlin is last of the Crawford triplets. He has used his love of the sea and being the captain of his own ship to escape his demons. He is home for a visit. He promises his mother that he would dance with a single lady at the ball. He dances with Lady Cassandra who had a baby out of wedlock because her fiancée died on the way to their wedding. Devlin hears talk disparaging Cassandra. He steps in and says he is marrying Lady Cassandra. Cassandra doesn’t want to marry because she promised to always be loyal to her dead fiancé. Devlin talks her into it. Once they marry he takes Cassandra and her daughter away for a long voyage. There are many twists and turns in the story. It was a page turner. I can’t wait for Sophie Barnes next book.

A sea captain who does not wish to marry (Devlin) and a disgraced lady (Cassandra) who feels she can not marry. The story-telling that leads to their HEA is great. I enjoyed this final book in the Crawfords series. I received an ARC from NetGalley for my honest review.

Loved this easy read love story!
Devlin is a sea captain, sailing for nine months at a time. He returns home for a months time to see his family and reload the ship. On his last trip home, his mother manipulates him into dancing at a family ball. He decides to dance with Cassandra, a family friend who had a child out of wedlock 13 years prior. While gossip starts to fly, and ugly insults are hurled, Dev finds himself declaring he is engaged to Cass, of course she doesn't know about the upcoming wedding.
Can the two find a way to overcome their past ghosts, love one another, and live happily ever after?
I loved the characters, plot and easy flow of the story.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Wow! This book was amazing. I loved it from beginning to end. The many turns and emotional rides that I was taking with Devlin and Cassandra was powerful. I did not expect the story to take a sharp turn like this. The writer threw a curve ball that came out of nowhere.
After Devlin and Cassandra over come so much, the news that he’s about to to tell her, even I think there is no coming back from. From the beginning Devlin shows Cassandra how much love that he has for her and her daughter. My heart melted and I wanted to cry on a few occasions. I mean, during that era and time, I’m sure that it was hard for your intended to except someone else’s child as yours. The voyage on the boat was well written.
As I read each chapter, I visualized it as if I was there, those parts where well written. I loved the characters. The banter between Devlin and Cassandra was on point. The flow of the book was great. I do not have to say wait, what happened or go back a few pages.
My fellow readers, I recommend this book to read.

This was a really fun read! Exactly what someone would expect from a historical romance.
Devlin was a great guy and I really enjoyed how he teased Cassandra and helped her be more lighthearted. The way he welcomed her daughter and all the orphans was also very impressive. Cassandra showed a lot of growth as a character. I loved reading about her overcoming all her issues. I wish there had been more descriptions of the places they visited. I think the sea voyage aspect could have been better developed. Overall this was a lovely book and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the historical romance genre.
