Advance Praise

"1. Excellent guidance for families and caregivers anticipating dealing with decline in loved ones.

In this book, Mahesh Moolani, MD provides not only a clinical understanding of the challenges caregivers face for loves ones nearing the final stages of their lives, he also touches on the simple acts of compassion and dignity in those final moments. Often, we as caregivers are faced with guiding families through the difficult time of seeing their loved ones decline, and trying to provide understanding for the ""whys"" behind the changes made. This book is a great resource for even those of us in the field, and very enlightening for anyone who anticipates having to make the ""Tough Decisions"" in the future.

2. I intend to point to this work as a great resource. Every family I work with ask so many of the same questions in the beginning stages of taking care of a loved one, but often feel alone and uncertain where to turn to for answers. Dr. Moolani has provided a great starting point toward answering those questions, as well as some that perhaps families have not yet had to face. Even if your aging loved ones are in perfect health, this is a valuable resource to read BEFORE it's needed.

3. The scenarios thourought this book moved me out of my head and into my heart. The combination of stories, tactics and checklists made this book a quick read and easy to reference. Dr. Moolani organized the information in a logical way for any of us as professionals, caregivers, volunteers or friends to navigate difficult situations. It's also thought provoking for us to imagine how we can be more proactive in our own aging process. I appreciate the format of the entire book; we can access it like a good ""cheat sheet."" I highly recommend this book and look forward to additional education developed by Dr. Mahesh Moolani.

4. This book is perfect if you need help making the right choices for someone you are caring for. Dr Moolani not only helps you better understand your options on type of care, but he gives you full explaination of how your choice of care will effect the family and caregiver. I just wish this book was available before my mom passed in December because I really think it would have been a big help. I can certainly see that a lot of the choices we made were spot on to the description he gives in the book. I highly recommend this book to everyone but especially anyone who is caring for a elderly loved one.

5. You know a person is really sharp when they take a difficult, uncomfortable or complex subject and break it down for everyone else to understand. Dr. Moolani has done a great job of taking the care of the elderly and explaining all the key components to you step by step. If you are suddenly cast in the role of caregiver for an elderly relative, this book is for you.

Very helpful and informative book in general, well written and in a caring way. Some of the information is US specific so probably not very useful in other countries, but most helpful.
