  • How to take the perfect shot like Ji So-yun, take the perfect set piece like David Beckham, take penalties like Matt Le Tissier, beat the offside trap like Fernando Torres, do the perfect attacking header like Didier Drogba, and more.
  • Weird and wonderful, from the way we describe things that happen in the game (a fox in the box) to the way we celebrate a goal (by pretending to be a robot) or do our hair (shaving it all off except for a triangle at the front).
  • The culture and people surrounding the game, from traditional pre-game food to the referee, commentator, and all-important crowd.
This great big book is your essential guide to the wonderful world of soccer.

5 stars 5 stars, this book is bomb.com!

I grew up watching a lot (read this as WAY TOO MUCH) soccer thanks to my incredible D1 soccer playing sister.. (like every. Single. Weekend. of childhood... woof).

And even I, tired-sister-of-soccer ..... completely DELIGHTED in this book.

There’s so many great facts packed in here! I had so much fun learning more about a game I thought I already knew a bit about.

I also have to note that the way the information is presented is really effective. It’s beautifully organized and designed (I’m a stickler for both). It’s NOT easy to do graphics well but this book has completely nailed it. (I would know, I inhale graphic novels as a hobby/ am taking a graphic novel class right now :).

I am buying this for my partner (also avid soccer lover) and sister immediately when it comes out.

So fun, informative, inclusive, and radiates with that awesome love for the game.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I thought that this book was great, with lots of clearly set out information for a young soccer (or football) enthusiast. The pages are brightly coloured and text is not overwhelming on the page although it’s filled with facts!

Within the book, as you’d expect there’s a brief history of the game, which also suggests ‘the greatest teams’, something bound to promote lots of discussions! Besides covering half a dozen or so player biographies, there’s a brief look at some of the top coaches, the cups and trophies, the stadiums and the uniform/kit.

The sections I liked best were the ‘How to...’ which were designed almost like a mini masterclass on football skills and the ‘Weird and Wonderful’ about haircuts, celebrations and foods. It made the book both more personal to the reader and made the players seem more individual. At the end, I thought that the final section would be very interesting for a reader who hadn’t been to a game before, or someone who wanted to find out a bit more about what happens behind the scenes.

Many players from different countries are mentioned and I was really impressed to see that information on women coaches, players and their teams were also added throughout the book.

My son loved the book for its history and graphics, and my daughter liked looking at the pictures and learning more about the game. Soccer is big in our house, so this was a hit.

This book has a lot of information that is interesting to children and the illustrations really guide the reader. It highlights great players and teams and tells why. What I liked the most was how it explained technical terms of the game in an easy and understandable way. I think many soccer-loving children will really enjoy this book!

Just what you want for a junior trivia book about football – it looks at stadia, classic hairdos, managers and their formations, some of the best players of all time, and more. It's designed cartoonishly but well, and covers all bases. It won't quite get you up and playing if you're not a convert, or make a better player out of a kid who already performs, but it is a cool read to browse.

This fun informative book is about soccer/football. My Dad, Brother and Husband are all huge soccer fans and I have learnt a bit from them. This book contains some great facts and statistics: The 1st FIFA World Cup in 1930 was in Uruguay, In 1969 the Women's FA (Football Association) was formed, In 1992 The Premier League was formed, In 1954 German Adi Dassler created the Adidas soccer boot. This book also contains lots of fun tidbits such as which players have fantastic hair and which coaches have changed leagues. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital copy.

My son and husband love soccer so of course they really liked this book! However, I am clueless when it comes to soccer so this book really helped me! It made the rules easier to understand so now I won't be as clueless watching games!
