Description

The pet animals are hungry! Choose what to feed each pop-up animal...

In Bone!, children are presented with a series of bright and engaging pet characters, each with their mouth wide open (a v-fold pop-up), eagerly awaiting a tasty treat. The child can choose which snack (a ‘dangly’ hanging from the spine of the book) they will feed to each animal. Hungry dog might want to chomp on a bone but wouldn’t it be funny to give her cat’s tasty fish treat instead? What would dog say about that?

This delightful series of preschool books encourages young children to engage with the book and converse with the parent or carer, form connections between the animal characters and what they like to eat, and to practice hand-eye coordination through play. They can choose to either pick the correct food to give each animal, or can engage in ‘silly play’ by offering knowingly inappropriate foods to each character.

This beautiful, brightly colored pop-up book will be a delight to young readers. The animals in this story are hungry. Preschoolers can choose a food item that dangles from the spine of the book to "feed" their furry friends. This allows children to also practice their hand-eye coordination while having fun learning about what animals eat. This book can also be used to teach children what animals eat or to play during story-time. Children will love the interactivity of this pop-up book.

I viewed the digital version of this book courtesy of Netgalley, so I cannot speak to the durability of this book.

Bone! by Carly Madden is an adorable interactive pop-up preschool book where young children get to feed animals with a food item that dangles from the spine of the book. The book is short and simple with limited words. The illustrations are cute and inviting. The real selling point of this book is that the young reader can "feed" the animals a treat, which helps develop eye hand coordination in a fun way. It is also a good book for story time because it encourages the child to engage with the story. Moreover, Bone! promotes conversation between the child and caregiver as they "feed" the animals the correct food item or the incorrect food item just to be silly. I can picture the laughter that would ensue as the child "feeds" the dog the rabbit's carrot. Children learn best when they are having fun and this book definitely looks fun.

I am reviewing a digital version of the book, so I can not say how the popups or the corresponding food items look or work, but from the description it sounds like it will be a source of enjoyment for a preschool age child. I also cannot speak to the durability of the book and its pieces.

This is a gorgeous brightly illustrated children's book. It's a very short book that would be perfect for reading with preschool age children enabling them to match the animal to the food it eats. The concept is brilliant with pop-ups and dangling food items for the child to feed the animals. It's an interactive book that would be brilliant for developing a child's hand-to-eye coordination and fine motor skills. The pages don't have too many words on and the illustrations are beautiful. I can imagine this book being a favourite book to read before bed as it looks so appealing and fun!

I received a review copy of the book via the book's publishers on NetGalley. I cannot comment on sturdiness or durability of the book or the interactive elements because of this. However, after reading the digital edition I am sure it will a firm favourite for young children.

Oh, what should we feed the hungry animals? Children get to decide which of the 4 food items dangling from the spine they want to feed to the hungry pop-up pets.

The tactile food items hanging from the spine has really elevated the concept from a simple pop-up book, and has become the selling point. As the character pops up on the page, their mouth is open, giving the child the perfect opportunity to play at feeding the pets, encouraging hand-eye coordination, as well as teaching children what animals eat. The illustrations are lovely - full of beautiful depth and texture, and the text is simple and fun to read. Children will really enjoy the interactivity of this book and will want to read it over and over again.

I reviewed a digital version of this book, supplied by the publisher, and therefore cannot comment on the durability of the pop-up mechanisms.

I enjoyed this book but I think it would definitely be a wonderful book for kids because it is an interactive book to get them to think about what pets eat and maybe even prepare them for when they have a pet and need to take care of it.

Bone! is an adorable interactive pop up book for preschool aged children. Children will surely love the bright colors and cute animals which they will "feed" food items that are attached to the spine of the book. It's a great way to work on their hand - eye coordination, and to talk about what different animals eat. I love interactive toys and books for children and I think this is a winner

I am viewing a digital copy, so I can't speak to how durable the book or "food items" are.

Thank you, Netgalley, for this ARC and the opportunity to provide my thoughts.

Bone is a bright and colourful short book especially for toddlers. A fun story on what you could feed the hungry animals. I think small children would like the eye catching illustrations. Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book.

This is a very cute title for very young children.  The pets are hungry and in need of treats.  A child can pick a treat for each of them.  Will it be a dog treat for a dog or...would the child like to give the dog a parrot treat?  Anything is possible.

I read an e galley of this vibrantly illustrated title.  The actual book will be much more fun with its dangling treats and pop ups.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.

Bone! and Banana! by Carly Madden are interactive board books for babies and toddlers. I read a digital copy of these books, so my review is based on what I am imagining the board book to be like. These books have pop-out pages and dangling food to put into the animals' mouths.

Bone! starts with four animals laying on a couch looking hungry. The illustrations on this page are pretty funny. I have never seen animals drawn so lethargically and holding their stomachs. The next page has a cat asking for some food. With the board book, the child would then put some food into the cat's mouth. Then, there is a bunny, parrot, and dog that the child has to feed. The last page of the book shows how happy the animals are eating their food.

I think babies and toddlers will love interacting with both Bone! and Banana! I read these to my 14-month-old son, and he kept pointing at the different animals. I really enjoyed the writing in these books and thought it was clever that the author included the animal sounds when asking for food. I recommend adding these books to your little one's collection, and I can't wait to buy the board books.

Though this one is too young for my students, I know my son will love the physical version of the book. The pop-ups and interactive nature will be a huge plus for him. I will definitely be purchasing a physical copy of this book.

Beautiful and bright illustrations! While I only read the digital copy, I could easily see my toddler "feeding" each animal with delight with the dangling foods on the hard copy. I would definitely purchase this book for my child or as a gift. Great for young ages - as my son is 1 1/2.

Thank you so much to the author Carly Madden, the publisher Quarto, and to Netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Bone is a cute children's book. My toddler loved it. The illustrations were vibrant. I believe there are pop-ups but cannot see them on an e-book format. I wouldn't say the writing was poetic or creative, but it gets straight to the point and is very simple for young children to understand. Sweet children's book, perfect for little pet owners.

Bone! was such a cute, quick book suitable for reading with infants and toddlers. The bright colors and pop open option would be such a delight to a little child and the caregiver reading to them. I loved the choice of animals. Bone! includes animals that a child should be familiar with. My favorite part of the book were the bright, colorful illustrations. If I had small children I would definitely add this book to their library. I think all preschools should add this interactive book in their younger classrooms.

I enjoyed this short children story and the illustrations to.  The story had you and your child guessing what might the animal pets like eat for lunch because they are hungry. My daughter like all the different animals.

I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is honest unbiased opinion.

This is a truly delightful little board book that can’t fail to appeal to all children in the 12 months to 4 years age bracket. It’s clever and fun, and takes interactive to a whole new level. It’s not just a book — it’s a game!

The idea is simple but very effective. Choose the right (or wrong, if you want to be silly!) snack for each of the four hungry animals: a dog, a cat, a rabbit and a parrot, and put it in its open (pop-up) mouth. The different foods — bone, fish, carrot, watermelon — are dangling on cords from the spine of the book. What a seriously genius idea!

Toddlers and pre-schoolers will love the illustrations, which are bright and colourful and feature some interesting details to talk about.

I love the educational aspects of this book. It’s great for promoting hand-eye coordination, learning new words, and developing imaginative play. I look forward to purchasing a hard copy once it is published.

I read this book with my son and he was engaged with the illustrations. He loved the colours and got the gist of the story. It was an easy to read, easy to follow story about what the animals wanted to eat

Due to the digital nature of the copy,, I'm unsure about the pop up elements, but could see how they would cause some great interaction with the story.

Families and caregivers will enjoy endless reads with this interactive board book. Kids and babies get to learn all about pets, responsibility, food, and fun as they feed the overly dramatic pets in this book. As we all know, when your pet is hungry they never hesitate to let you know. Shout out to my foodie dog Bacon! Lots of storytelling options and great for building child/caregiver interaction with books. I just may try this book on my ten year old 🙂.

I enjoyed reading this with my four year old son as a bedtime story. We loved the colorful pages, animal sounds and neat illustrations. Since it was a digital copy, we didn't have the pleasure to fully interact with the dangly food items or the pop-up faces which I think would have made a tremendous impact and added to the fun. I also thought the story was a little simple and short, so I would recommend to read this book to a two or three year old, but that may have been different if we had the play interaction with the food. Overall, Bone! made him laugh, so it's a good and entertaining book for little kids.

I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from Carly Madden and Quatro Publishing Group through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This was a cute book; I like that it has food items hanging from the book to feed to the animals and that there are pictures on the back to show what the animals normally eat. I also like that children will be able to choose whatever food item they want to feed to each animal. Each time you read this book it could be different, you could be silly and feed every animal the same food, or all the wrong food, or you could be serious and feed them the appropriate food. Just a fun book.

This review is identical to Banana! as both books have dangly food items and animals to read, and both were just fun books.

This is an adorable interactive book that little ones will love. The vibrant bright illustrations highlight a familiar pet, ( cat, bunny, parrot, doggie), mouth agape, pleading to have a tasty snack dropped into their mouth by the reader. Each pet is a v-fold pop-up which kids will be delighted to feed. A dangly item of food is hanging from the spine of the book. Kids problem solve as they choose the perfect snack for each animal to enjoy.

The book will spark conversations about proper animal care and allow kids to practice eye-hand coordination in a playful, fun way. Of course they can mix up the food and engage in "silly play" which will result in lots of giggles and frivolity. It's a winner for sure.

I highly recommend this book.
