This is so cute. It's perfect for story-telling time. I love illustrations and the lesson within it. It touched me and I know, kids will love it.

This is a wonderful story that teaches children the basics about leaving nature the way you found it. It teaches a very simple lesson in a relatable way. It doesn’t shame the main character for their mistakes, but illustrates the character’s change of ideas after their experiences. The illustrations go hand in hand with the story to create an effective and memorable story and lesson.

This is a small but mighty book with great talking points to be used in the classroom. It allows younger children to think about taking away from nature and that it is most beautiful left alone, for all to enjoy.

This book would be great for those who work in forest kingdergartens or nurseries with large nature space or for those about to head out and about.

Catching Fireflies is a beautiful, heartwarming story about appreciating nature-- and further, other beings-- as they are. It's perfect for starting dialogues with little ones who are starting to become possessive and obsessive of things they like.

Sweet little book about enjoying outdoors and nature. And the monster in the book is not one bit scary! This would be a cozy, short read with a wee one.

Catching Fireflies by Celina and Leo Lagnado is a cute book that teaches kids the concepts of admiring nature without claiming ownership and is in line with the "take only pictures" adage often taught to young campers. There's not much to this storybook for young readers, but it gets the message across and the pictures are cute. The friendly monster is sure to engage the young audience.

Catching fireflies is a cute book about a monster who loves nature. Monster tries to bottle nature so he can always see it. However, things do not remain the same. Changes in nature, as well as in ourselves, is inevitable. Monster learns that it may be best to leave nature outside where it is meant to be.

Absolutely adorable. I tested this one out my grandson, who is 2 years old. He loves this story. The artwork is just beautiful with gorgeous colors and the character, Monster, is fun and interesting to little ones! Highly recommend this for library story times about nature or the seasons. A wonderful read aloud.

The concept of ‘letting things be’ and enjoying nature as it was intended is brilliant for the “littles”. Such a pleasant read.

A very cute little book about a very cute little monster who loves nature so much that he wants to collect it. We follow the monster as he adores nature and wants to keep more and more and more of it in little jars, but he learns a lesson along the way.

This book is beautiful, and really captures the feeling of awe that nature can bring. The story and charter are great and the illustrations simple but effective. I would highly recommend this for young children

This book is so cute! It sends a great lesson about enjoying nature in its true form and not trying to bring it indoors. It was the perfect length for a kids book and the illustrations were wonderful!

Holding onto Nature

The little monster in this book is intrigued by what it sees in nature and wants to hold on to it forever. So it gets jars and places living things it likes that it sees in nature in them, like a pretty flower in spring, fireflies in the summer, and snow in winter. Soon the little monster realizes that these things don't last in jars. Nature is all around to enjoy; it doesn't need to keep it in jars. I think the message that nature is there for us to delight in, without having to keep it under glass, is a fairly decent one, though I don't really know if it's necessary for the children who this book is aimed at. I wonder if the children who might be reading this book along with their parents or caregiver might question why it took the flower so long to wilt. Most things the little monster put in the jars would decay or die rather quickly. So that might not feel quite right to the kids who would know this. I know that children sometimes want to take some living thing home from a nature walk or a day at the beach. I remember my mother having to convince my nephew to leave the tide pools alone and not put one of the sea creatures in his pocket. If you have a child who has problems understanding letting living things in nature remain in their habitat, this book could be a helpful way to open a discussion about it.

This was a darling book! The illustrations were my favorite part of the book. Monster loves to collect nature and store it in jars, but then he realizes that storing nature in jars does not work. I could use this book in my classroom and have students draw what they see in nature. I liked how Monster chose things from all four seasons. Overall, this was a lovely story with stunning illustrations.

I thought that this was a lovely story and Monster really reminded me of my daughter!

At the moment she is very much in to nature and is always collecting things when we go out on a walk to take home. I love that this story shows that sometimes, you can enjoy things more when they are in their natural settings, and they are then viewable by more and more people too.

It was well written and I enjoyed the images too - 4 stars from me for this one, highly recommended!!

A cute book about nature for the little ones in our life. How great would it be to collect the scent of a wildflower or the neverending glow of a firefly!? I think the book sends a message that we must protect this Earth, as we can’t keep all of its beauty neatly stored on shelves.

This is short and sweet story that will be perfect for toddlers. The illustrations were bright, the language was kid-friendly and the lesson taught was age appropriate. Great book for anyone who wants to talk about nature, the season, and/or conservation with young kiddos.

This book may be short but it is lovely. The illustrations perfectly match the story which I read with a 9 year old. She loved it and it inspired us to get out in nature and draw what we found. A great read.

This was a story told succinctly about enjoying nature and the outdoors and enjoying things in the moment and in person, which is something we can all appreciate right now. I think many parents and even children will appreciate its message. Though the art seemed sparse at parts-- lots of white space-- it was a cute style with clear colors for Monster and his surroundings.

As a mother of a nature fanatical four year old, this book was ideal.
We often see beautiful things in nature and the temptation to bring these things home to continue to admire them is strong.

In this colourful, simple book it clearly explores the downside of this . In a lovely way that is clear for smaller children to understand why we should appreciate nature where it is.

In Catching Fireflies we follow a friendly little monster that loves nature and just wants to be constantly surrounded in it. The aspect of collecting and wanting to obtain things relative to a favourite item or concept (in this case, nature) is understandable and relatable for many. This book serves as a tender reminder of the importance of respecting something you love. Here, the audience learns that whilst we may appreciate nature and its glorious beauty, it is better to admire it in its natural state so that it can thrive and that others may also enjoy it.

The illustrations are cute with vibrant colours. Due to the simplicity of the art and story, I feel like this book suits a younger audience (of about 4 years or so). However, I feel like the story may have benefitted more if the moment of realisation was elaborated a bit more.

Overall, this was a delightful quick read about loving and respecting nature.

This story was cute, but I felt like it needed a little bit more. I like the idea of it and think it’s important to get children to understand that they should love and respect nature. I just think that the story was too quick and could have benefitted from a few more pages explaining that concept. Monster was adorable though and I enjoyed the story overall.

Adorable story about Little Monster, who loves nature so much that he wants to collect parts of it in jars to keep forever. Little Monster soon learns that living things belong in nature so that they can remain beautiful.

This will be the perfect addition to my preschool curriculum for our nature unit. So often, the kids want to pick the flowers, or keep the worms, and I’m looking forward to sharing this book with them to teach that nature is best observed where it belongs!

I think this book was written just for me. One of my biggest pet peeves is kids messing with animals catching toads and turtles to keep them in a bucket why???? Back to the book in such a sweet simple way it explains exactly why we shouldn't do this. I wish I had a whole shelf of books just like this!

The title caught my eye and reminded me of being young. This is a sweet story about learning to enjoy nature in the moment.

Lovely illustrations and a cute story. I liked the simplicity of it. I can imagine my nursery class enjoying the story and it could lead to a discussion about decay and life cycles.

This is a children's book. It is short and perfect for someone to read to toddlers. This book is all about a monster that loves nature because of his love of nature he tries to put it in jars. This book teaches kids about nature. It also made me think about catching lighting bugs when I was a kid, and putting them in a jar. Of course made me release them before I went into the house. I think this book has cute pictures that toddlers will love, and I love the underline massage in this book. This book also makes monsters less scary. The book has a short story about a about a nature loving monster. The pages are filled with colourful illustrations and easy narratives. It is perfect book for beginner readers and for story time for little ones.

Sometimes you just read a short children's book to bring your netagalley average back to life, but sometimes that children's book is sooo cute!
It's quite a short story, but the illustrations are really sweet and it teaches about nature in a simple, but effective way. If I ever have children of my own, I'll make sure to read it to them.

What a nice story for littles! I like that little monster set the fireflies free! Children should always be encouraged to set the glowy little insects free before going to bed at night. I like, too, that the story shows there is no sense in bringing nature home. Nature is always there waiting for you to enjoy it! The illustrations were sweet!

Love the title.
A book that introduces Monster. A red blob with an engaging smile who loves Nature.
He finds a set of collection jars which he can use to store his examples for presentation and to remember.
However, the vibrancy of his environment soon deteriorates as picked flowers wilt, fire flies cease to glow. A fallen leaf dries out to dust and snow simply melts.
Consequently he learns a valuable lesson that nature can not be captured but needs to be entered and enjoyed on a daily basis or whenever you can.
Such immediacy and intimate interaction is the best way to enjoy one’s environment.
An engaging and simplistic character this tiny monster is a child’s equivalent to David Attenborough so we can only embrace him and delight in the magic and warm truth of this book.

In Catching Fireflies, a monster wants to enjoy nature by trapping elements of nature, but it does not work as it expects. The monster learns an important lesson regarding nature. The illustrations could have been more refined. Catching Fireflies would be a good book for toddlers. It has simple pictures and short sentences.

I am always telling children, "Leave the flower for the bees" or "Don't hurt the bug for doing what a bug does." Children are interested and curious. They are always asking important questions about what they observe. This picturebook nurtures a child's understanding and respect for living things in their natural habitat. Simple text, sweet monster learning to be an ecologist, and delicate vingnettes pull together a message of looking closer at the world around you. When we see or experience a beautiful moment in nature, we keep it safely tucked away in our hearts and schema. It is with us always.

This was an adorable picture book with beautiful illustrations. I highly recommend this book to anyone with kids of the appropriate age.

Lovely little story about nature, and how nature is best enjoyed where it should be.
My daughter is 4 and she has always loved nature - this has just drummer it home how important it is.

I read this book 3 times with my daughter and we both enjoyed it. The book is about a little monster who loved nature so much that he tried to put items from nature into bottles, in order to keep them for himself and enjoy them inside his home. However, he soon realised that it was not possible to keep these items in bottles, as they withered and died over time. This was a good lesson for him and at the end of the book he decided to stop bottling nature items and just go outside and enjoy nature as it was, in all its glory, at different times of the year.

This was such a cute story about preserving nature. This really explains to children about watching nature with your eyes or camera not with your hands. And that nature should be free.

I enjoyed reading this little book of catching fireflies, It has a good story with cute pictures and sweet message. I would definitely recommend this to my young niece.

A cute little story with cute illustrations. The monster has some interesting ideas when thinking about the nature around him and we go on a journey with him ans he realizes more about life. Children might relate to what this little monster is thinking and learning in this darling little story.

Monster is such a sweet character and not scary at all. He has an obsession with nature and loves it so much that he tries to capture it in jars so he can always have it close to him. He makes a plan to collect a pretty flower in spring, fireflies in the summer, a colourful leaf in autumn, and a delicate snowflake in the winter. To his surprise he discovers that these beautiful live specimens disintegrate when bottled up and not left in their natural environment ... a.k.a... nature's homeland. He comes to the realization that the natural beauty he loves so dearly is best left alone and at his disposal anytime he wants to venture outside and enjoy it.

The illustrations are colourful, simple and kid-friendly. This book would be a great segue to a discussion about nature's preservation. I like the book and would definitely recommend it.
