Beautiful book! I love Amish cookbooks! This book has some delicious recipes from scratch and I can't wait to make some of them! It's very pretty and organized. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

A great collection of recipes from the Amish. I love that the majority of recipes are using common everyday ingredients, and are easy to follow. Especially want to try the stuffed french toast recipe. Would highly recommend this book and author.

There are always good recipes in Amish Cookbooks. There were a few new ones that I never heard of before such as the ice cream toppings that I would love to try. I believe everything tastes better made from scratch and this cookbook shows wonderful pictures and recipes to back up that believe. I'm glad that I was able to preview it before it went out for sale so I can keep an eye out to order it for our library.

**I received an e-ARC from NetGalley for an honest review**

While the final cookbook will be over 200 pages, the sample of the book I was given had 86 pages to review. So with that in mind, I set to work trying out some of those recipes!

First and foremost, anyone who grew up cooking with a "from scratch" family will recognize several of the recipes. Most of the recipes in the book will use things that you already have in your pantry and won't require multiple trips to the store.

While all of the recipes I tried were amazing and tasty, my favorite was the Brown Bread- it tasted just like the bread my grandmother would make when I was growing up. I've tried finding the recipe for years and have come close, but this is an almost perfect match!

I would recommend these recipes as great starting points to individualize and create your own family recipes to keep handing down through the generations.

The photography was beautiful and inviting, as any cookbook should be. The font was easy to read and just the perfect size for failing eyes without being so huge as to hurt people with good eyesight.

Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Friends From Scratch Cookbook is a cookbook with basic Amish/country staple dishes in a simple style. Due out 1st Nov 2020 from Barbour Books, it's 224 pages and will be available in spiral bound format.

The eARC provided was an 86 page sample with recipes for breakfast, (non-alcoholic) drinks and snacks, breads rolls & crackers, salads & side dishes, main dishes, desserts, snacks & candy, dairy products, miscellaneous, equivalents & substitutions (lots of good tips), and several indexes which include contributors, recipes by each section, and VERY helpfully, an index of main ingredients with recipes included featuring each main ingredient..

The photography is appealing and warm and emphasizes the comfort and simplicity of good food with good friends and family. The typography and layout are homey, with recipes presented individually, organized by section.

Many of these recipes will be familiar to cooks who have had family recipes handed down for generations. The recipes all have ingredients listed in American standard measurements only. The written directions are clear and easy to follow. There is no nutritional information given for the sample recipes, and the contributors names are listed for each. There are very few convenience or premade ingredients here (as could be expected from the title). The only things I saw were things like instant coffee powder and powdered creamer. Everything else is from scratch. Also many of these recipes have large yields, perfect for parties, reunions, gatherings, etc.

Five stars. (With the assumption that the rest of the recipes and book quality are to the same standard as the sample provided).

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I love cookbooks and have a vast collection. I was excited to see this cookbook and couldn't wait to try the recipes. When thumbing through it I read the stories inside and they made me think of days when I was growing up. I learned how to cook at my grandmother's knee. She would cook cornbread in a cast iron skillet and she taught me how to make many of her recipes. This cookbook reminds me of those days. Many of the recipes are similar to the recipes I knew when I was growing up. I have gotten too busy to cook, but this book reminded me to take time for the simple things in life. The pictures are vibrant and colorful, the content is well organized and easy to find. There is a vast amount of recipes included in the book from breakfast to breads to main dishes and many in-between. There are the tried and true favorites and there are some new twists on some old classics. Everything you could want can be found in this book. I would definitely recommend it!

I would like to thank Netgalley and Barbour Publishing for allowing me to preview this cookbook!

I love Amish cookbooks. I have two by Beverly Lewis and will have to add this one by Wanda E. Brunstetter to my collection. Although it is a sample of the whole book., it left me wanting more. All of the recipes looked delicious!

Another wonderful cookbook from Wanda Brunstetter. Organized by food types (salads, breads, dairy, breakfast, etc.) and there is even a section that breaks it down by an ingredient. A must have addition to any home chef's kitchen!

My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I love a good cookbook, and I adore exploring the cuisine of other cultures. In <u>Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Friends From Scratch Cookbook,</u> you will find recipes made with ingredients you can usually find in your pantry or grocery store. During these COVID Times, waiting for an Amazon or Ebay delivery can burst your cooking enthusiasm bubble. (Note: If you still somehow can't find the vital ingredient for a certain recipe, just flip to the back of the book: there is a very handy, comprehensive list of substitutions. The excellent indexes at the back of the book contain even more very simple recipes - make your own sweetened condensed milk, for example, and I am always grateful when a cookbook author includes a conversion table - or Common Equivalents, as this author so aptly entitled her index of measurements.)

In this wonderful book, you will find easy to follow recipes for making your own cream cheese and "Dairy Queen" ice cream. Yum! The Hawaiian and Herman Carrot Cake recipes are both on my To Bake list! I'm scheduling a visit to St. Jacob's Market later this week to buy a bushel of carrots (and to sample this popular Amish market's famous Apple Fritter and Ice Cream dessert!) I can't wait to try the Zucchini Fritters or the Spicy Chicken Casserole. The Mojito Drink Concentrate sounds delicious - perfect for those of us who prefer non-alcoholic beverages. The ingredients for the Ramen Noodle Salad recipe are on my kitchen counter right now, waiting for me to file this review! The Grilled Chicken recipe is next!

I was in such a cooking slump until I read this wonderful cookbook. My grocery list is now filled with wholesome, healthy ingredients. I'm going to whip up some good eats tonight, thanks to this collection of mouth-watering recipes. The pictures just seal the deal. The graphic of the baked chicken compelled to interrupt my writing of this review and pull some chicken out of my freezer!

I highly recommend this collection of Amish recipes. It is beautifully presented and the recipes are totally "doable." This is a "must have" for any serious foodie and cookbook lover!

Any cookbook that purports to be Amish is always of interest, and this one is no exception. Nice recipes with excellent introductions and descriptions. A fun book to read even if you don't cook....... but you will want to.

Good selection of recipes. Breakfasts, desserts, salads, sides and more. Great cookbook for anyone and would be a great gift for newlyweds.

What an interesting book with such simple ingredients too.
The pictures are mouthwatering and the instructions very easy. This is a cookbook I would most certainly want on my shelves

The color illustrations were very well done and I like that the author gives several variations on some of the recipes. The equivalents and substitutions section is something that I wish more cookbooks included. Overall it’s a very readable cookbook.

Since I’ve been cooking from scratch from a young age for a large family, many of these recipes are familiar or close to dishes I have made before.
However, there are some uniquely Amish dishes in this cookbook, some I still need to try.
I’ve always been curious how the Amish make root beer, now I know, though I’m waiting for a special occasion to try a batch myself.
The biggest drawback for cookbooks is when they are online. It makes it much more difficult to use than if you have a hard copy.

My eye was drawn to this cookbook initially because I live in an area with a large Amish population, so I know firsthand how delicious many Amish-made recipes taste. Thinking about that made me realize that one reason I enjoy Amish cooking is that it's usually made from scratch--the same reason I always enjoyed Sunday dinners at my grandmother's as a child. In an era where so much of the "food" people eat bears little resemblance to what would have been found in my grandmother's kitchen, I think we could all use a little more "made from scratch" in our lives.

Wanda E Brunstetter's Amish Friends From Scratch Cookbook provides exactly that--simple, delicious, made from scratch recipes made from readily available ingredients. No culinary degree required to make tasty food. There is a wide variety of recipes for all courses of a meal, and interspersed with the recipes are gorgeous photos and story snippets of Amish life. This cookbook will be well-used and loved in my home for sure!

Thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is one of those cookbooks that will not only get much use, it will be one to pass down from one family member to another.
Some of the recipes here you will be familiar with, but it’s not difficult to make pancakes from scratch rather than using a mix. More cost effective and healthier too. Most cookbook recipes for Apple Butter call for cooking apples in either the crock pot or on the stove. The recipe here says to bake it; now that’s a really old-fashioned idea but the one where you will get the most flavor. Most people have made stuffed cabbage rolls but here is the German version called Galoushka. Very well laid out and wonderful photos. Guess I’ll head to the kitchen now and bake up some goodies.
I received an advanced reader copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

My daughter and I are LOVING this cookbook and it's eclectic mix of recipes! While it is definitely nothing close to healthy and their are some odd ingredients (sucanat, Perma-Flo), the cookbook is full of delicious sounding and looking recipes that will keep us in the kitchen for awhile. There's everything from fluffy pancakes to cottage cheese and just about everything in between.

Beautiful photos and easy recipes with real ingredients. I loved that the ingredient lists were short and frequently were all things that I keep on hand. No exotic ingredients that you'll never use again. Tons of delicious bread recipes for your pandemic baking needs plus comfort foods galore and some fun new things to try like making your own yogurts and cheeses.

Thank you to Barbour Books and NetGalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this cookbook. My review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

Amish Friends From Scratch is a cookbook full of recipes that are simple and require only a few basic ingredients. The concept behind this cookbook is great. Sometimes you want to make and eat a good and homemade meal without breaking the bank on purchasing a bunch of different ingredients. A lot of the recipes in this book were short and had just a few basic steps. A great beginners cookbook!

I haven’t made any of the recipes in this book yet but plan to soon. I’m especially interested in making the energy bites and bars. I like the simplicity in the ingredients and would feel comfortable recommending this book to others.

Thank you to Netgalley, Wanda E. Brunstetter and Barbour Publishing, Inc for the ARC of Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Friends From Scratch Cookbook.

I totally love this sample of the upcoming cookbook. I have made a few of the recipes and I am looking forward to making several more. For it being just a sample of the upcoming cookbook, it was amazing to be able to review. I am a huge cookbook collector, and this is one I will buy for my collection and I will be giving it to friends and family for their holiday cooking.

I would have LOVED to see the full version of this cookbook that will have 270 recipes of Amish/Mennonite from scratch recipes in it!! What I received to review was a teaser version of this book! I loved that there are actual pictures of the finished product, nicely photographed in the book. How many actually, I can't tell you as I do not have the full version. Another thing I absolutely LOVED, is it included the recipe for Hillybilly Bread, which I can't wait to make!! While I only got to view the teaser version of this book, I like it enough and can't wait to purchase the full version and discover its contents!! I give 4 stars instead of 5 because I can't provide all the information I want to because I don't have the full book to draw from. What I did see, I loved it!!

You will enjoy the gorgeous pictures that accompany and complement these delectable recipes!
You can make your own yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese and cheese balls using everyday ingredients from your grocery store or bulk food store!
You can also make trail bars, no-bake bars and pumpkin bars with peanut butter, oats, flour and canned pumpkin!
If you like homemade noodles, you can whip some up in 20 minutes with egg yolks, flour and water, that are tastier than packaged products.
Make your own healthy brown bread with wheat flour, honey, yeast, oil and salt in a few hours! (Dough rising time included) You can even make homemade cream cheese with yogurt, milk, sugar and salt in a day!
Taco salad making is easy with ground beef, Doritos, kidney beans, lettuce and cheddar cheese - mix it up in a bowl and serve it with homemade dressing!
There's a cappuccino mix and a hot chocolate mix that are wonderful for cold days - and iced coffee for those hot summer days!
For main dish entrees, there is grilled chicken with buffalo chicken or hot pizza dip, you can serve this with homemade croissant rolls and a cool broccoli salad with Hawaiian cheesecake bars for dessert -enjoy!

This addition to my Brunstetter collection of reading and cooking books is another excellent investment. The recipes use basic pantry ingredients and do not require a culinary degree to complete. The family oriented menus are great for a few or a crowd and the easy to follow recipes insure quality results for all. I've already tried about 30 of them and have bookmarked at least that many more to try before the holidays. Along with the recipes, you'll find many stories of the Amish way of life and find it not so much different than yours or mine. I intend to gift a copy of this book to at least 6 of my younger relatives this Christmas. It can start their own Brunstetter collection.

Another great Amish Friends cookbook from this author. If you love Amish cooking, cooking from scratch, beautiful, appealing pictures of these dishes, you will love this book.

Organized by food types, an index of contributors, a section on substitution items, recipes by key ingredients, and recipes for miscellaneous things, this is a “must have” to add to your cookbook collection. I can’t wait to try many of these recipes.

Thanks to Barbour Publishers and NetGalley for the advance sample copy of this book. The opinions expressed are my own.

Looking forward for this book to be published. Every time I see an Amish cookbook, I get excited. I myself have food allergies and intolerance that preclude me from eating many of the recipes without substitution but I enjoy making them as suggested for my family. Cooking from scratch has been a long time pleasure but in this time of COVID quarantines it is even more important to be able to cook from our pantries. This wonderful cookbook makes it possible and delicious.

A great collection of Amish recipes. A top notch cookbook. I received an advance ebook from the publisher and Netgalley and this is my unbiased review.

Some of my earliest memories are being in the kitchen with my family. Everyone had a job to do no matter how small we were. Nothing compares to enjoying a good home cooked meal from scratch, eaten around a large table. Amish Friends From Scratch Cookbook is reminiscent of copying those favorite recipes by hand on a three by five inch card to share. My box is overflowing still with treasures from my family and friends. This new collection of recipes gathered by Wanda Brunstetter is full of recipes that have been tried and tested.

One recipe to note especially, is Coffee Shop Brownies....from one chocolate lover to another, they are quite good! The Buttermilk pancake recipe conjures up memories of my dad on a Saturday morning making his special pancakes. Other recipes that are noteworthy are Delicious Cream Cheese and Marshmallow Creme Fluff. Those are two things I thought were found only in the grocery store! If you are looking for tried and true recipes for your family, I recommend this cookbook. Consider adding this to your gift list for budding cooks in the family. You may benefit by an invitation to enjoy one of these good recipes around the table.

Another wonderful cookbook from Ms. Brunstetter and friends. The recipes all look delicious . I am seriously debating on how my doctor will love them, but what the heck, they look too good ignore.
The only drawback that I could see was that the pictures didn't show what recipe they were. There was an extremely tasty cake in there, but no way to identify what it was.

What could be better than an Amish cookbook, compiled by one of the foremost Amish authors....Wanda Brunstetter!!! This cookbook will not disappoint you. It had readily available ingredients, that most of us already have in our kitchen, and the recipes are down home, warm the stomach, good food!! I have been blessed, many times, to share meals with our Amish friends and these recipes show how many of them eat. You will enjoy this book, especially since many of us are eating, at home, more during this year of 2020.....this cookbook will help your family enjoy your meals!!. Open, the book, enjoy the possibilities and make some "new to you" dishes!! I received an ARC copy of this book, but loved it so much, I bought a hard copy to add to my Brunstetter book collection!!!

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher, Kensington Books via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

As usual, Wanda has given us a wonderful collection of Amish recipes that we can make an enjoy. Recipes are arranged by category and credit is given to all who contribute. Pictures are beautiful and recipes are easy to follow.

Great addition to any cookbook collection.

A 5 star collection.

This cookbook is very insightful and makes you think of Grandma's recipes. I enjoyed it and have already made one of the recipes...Hawaiian cheesecake bars. I do not like the digital copy (it downloads sideways) and think I will buy this in print so I can enjoy it the way it meant to be.

Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Friends From Scratch Cookbook: A Collection of Over 270 Recipes for Simple Hearty Meals and More is another delicious Cookbook compiled by Mrs Brunstetter. I love these series of cookbooks and I love this one the most. I can not wait to dive into these recipes. Highly recommended!
Five plus stars.

Wanda Brunstetter’s cookbooks always have fabulous recipes, and if this one is like the other cookbooks of hers that I own, I’ll be adding this one to my cookbook collection. These recipes not only sound delicious, they seem as if a somewhat inexperienced chef could make these from scratch. The photos in the book are bright and attractive; and the print size would easy to read in the kitchen as you are preparing the dish. There’s a nice variety of recipes and you should be able to find quite a few that will appeal to your family. I’m looking forward to getting some family favorites from this cookbook.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
