Description
Have you ever closed your Bible and thought, What did I just read? Or maybe you have tried to read through the Bible in a year, but quit when it felt confusing or impersonal. The Bible Recap is here to help. Tara-Leigh Cobble, host of the popular Bible Recap podcast, walks readers through a one-year chronological Bible reading plan and explains each day's passage in an easy-to-understand way.
Emphasizing how God's character can be seen throughout Scripture, the recaps are simple and short yet deep enough to help you understand the hard parts and press into knowing God better. As Cobble says, The primary role of Scripture is to show me who God is, and if I behold God, my life will naturally conform around what I learn about him. The Bible Recap will not only help you understand the entire narrative of the Bible, it will fortify your faith.

I had not heard of Tara-Leigh Cobble prior to a bookstagram friend recommending "the Bible Recap." Now I am a fan. This companion to daily Bible reading is just right for those who need a little help understanding what is going on in a passage, but don't want something as heavy or technical as a commentary. I like that Tara-Leigh progresses through the Bible in chronological order (as opposed to the order in the English Bible). So the prophetical books are interspersed within Kings and Chronicles, as they would be on a timeline. Ditto for the epistles appearing within Acts according to when Paul and others wrote them. This alone, makes the experience fresh for seasoned Bible readers. Each day's selection also includes a "God Shot" which is where the author helps us see that all scripture points to the Lord. The closing phrase of each entry is: "He is where the joy is!" What a wonderful daily reminder in these strange, uncertain times. If you aspire to read the Bible through in 2021, get a copy of this book. It will be an invaluable companion on the journey. |

This is such an intriguing book to read. The only thing I could really wish for is better separation between the readings. This would make it so much easier to read it on a daily basis. I know myself that I buzzed past several days worth before I realized what was happening. |

I'm just completing a personal project of reading the Bible beginning to end and I'm excited to begin all over with this book and Cobble's insights into the daily readings. A commitment like this - reading the entire Bible - can be daunting; but with the help Cobble provides in understanding what one is reading, it makes the endeavor that much more worthwhile. |

I absolutely loved the time and effort that Tara-Leigh Cobble put into ‘The Bible Recap’. The way she writes allows the reader to learn about each day’s scripture wether they are a seasoned Bible reader or this is their first time. I will forever be recommending this book to friends and family. |

A difficult book to classify - one might call it a Devotional, a Bible Reading Plan, a Chronological Bible, or a Bible Commentary. It is actually a bit of all three. The author has taken the Bible and divided it into 365 daily readings in Chronological order. The reader will need to have their favorite Bible handy, the text of the Scriptures are not included in this book. Along with each daily reading is a brief commentary helping the reader understand the underlying text. The day’s reading concludes with a devotional thought (called “Today’s God Shot”) suggesting how the reading might be applied in a believer’s life. Picking up this book makes this reader want to start (better, restart) a plan to read through the Bible next year. Actually, the reader can start anytime - The 365 daily sections are numbered - not dated. An individual could easily use the book as a guide through the scriptures or a small group could use it as a jumping-off point for a year-long walk through the Word of God. A local church could use it as a Christmas gift for its members as they seek to study the Scriptures together. ______________ This review is based on a free electronic copy provided by the publisher for the purpose of creating this review. If you ever read your Bible and then immediately wonder, "What did I just read?" this is the book for you! Each day, you'll read 2-3 chapters of a chronological Bible reading plan, and then read a short explanation of what you read. Tara-Leigh Cobble offers insight into the historical context of the events, translation of the original language, and other interesting info--all easy to understand without a theology degree! I'm so grateful for this resource and the impact it's had on my life. I've gotten to know my God and the history of my faith on a deeper level this year, and can't say enough good things about this resource. |

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! Ms. Cobble did a wonderful job of breaking down the different parts of the Bible into sections that can easily work together with a one-year daily reading plan. I would not use this book to "replace" my Bible reading, but rather as a companion to each day that I read my devotions. I also find it important to understand that, as a companion, it does not replace the Bible in it's explanations, but rather just offers one persons interpretation of events and examples. As with any book, a companion style book is simply an opinion of that authors thoughts. We must remember that this author is also human, and that interpretation can vary immensely among many Bible scholars. This said, I was impressed by this book, and will likely purchase a hard copy of it for my own use! I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. |

What a truly timely, ambitious, and successful book! I absolutely loved it! (I read much of it and skimmed through the rest, as it is meant to be read in a year.) I love her questions at the beginning and her discussions about "how to really read the Bible". I love the way she organized the book to enable you to read chapters that really go together, and the way she ended each reading with something about God's character or a takeaway for real life. If you are at all hesitant to get this book, just go for it. I will be using it for some of my daily devotionals as well as for a "through the Bible in one year" guide. I received a free ARC as a reviewer for NetGalley, but I am considering buying a hard copy as well. |

I was introduced to Tara-Leigh Cobble via her podcast and knew that I wanted to read The Bible Recap right away. First, you will need a Bible to accompany this book as the scriptures are not within the text. It is a companion book, resource and guide of sorts. It packs so much into it, I'm not exactly sure what to label it. Cobble breaks down a chronological reading of the BIble into daily readings of several chapters. The Bible Recap then does exactly that - recaps what you read in the scriptures and ends with a paragraph on how to apply it to life. It truly is unlike any other Bible study resource I have used. It is meant to be used as a year long reading guide and resource. It is a great way to hold yourself accountable to reading through the Bible. It would be a great resource for a church library, book club, life group or any other study group. |

First when I heard about this book I started to hear the Bible Recap podcast as a part of my study of the book of Luke. It's a great book to read next to your Bible. Tara-Leigh leads you through a one-year chronological Bible reading plan. The Bible Recap book is not a devotional from which you will get insides from a writer but instead offers you background information and some explanation in a very simple way about the chapter you are reading. I like what Tara-Leigh calls "Today's God shoot" at the end of every day focusing on God. |

I don't know where I would be without TBR in my life. TLC did a truly incredible job guiding me through scripture this past year. I now look for God's character, stay rooted in joy, and seek deeper understanding because of her insight into scripture. I cannot thank God enough for her willingness to serve so many people through writing this. I look forward to spending 2021 with TBR as well! This will be an annual endeavor from now on, thanks to this incredible content! I'm ecstatic to have access in book form now! |

The Bible Recap is a great podcast and I love that they released this book by the same name. The book correlates with reading the Bible through in a year. Each day there is a scripture passage to be read and then a short succinct commentary about the passage. I love the “God Shot” found at the end of each days reading. This portion focuses on how we see different attributes of God as we read through the Bible. This is beneficial because a lot of the times devotions could turn the focus on self, it’s refreshing to see a book that puts all the focus where it should be on scripture text and God. Allowing the reader to use the Bible as a way to grow closer to God rather than a self help book. Highly recommend this book to read along with your Bible daily. |
