Description

In this gripping memoir, Jennifer Degl brings her readers on an emotional roller coaster: from the decision to get pregnant despite warnings from her doctors—and nearly dying four times during her pregnancy—to the birth of her daughter, Joy, seventeen weeks early, and this tiny baby’s fight to survive.

On the night her daughter was born, Jennifer started a journal on a sheet of paper given to her by a nurse. Once she was discharged from the hospital, a little blue notebook—in which she wrote everything—became Jennifer’s constant companion. Five months after the birth of her daughter, Jennifer went to write in her notebook; instead, she sat down and read her journal cover to cover. That’s when she knew she had to tell this story.

A remarkable story, “From Hope to Joy” is filled with love, determination, strength, hope—and finally Joy.

Bio:

JENNIFER DEGL is an author of books that support NICU moms and children. Her latest release, I was Small, But Now I’m Tall is a picture book that helps parents explain to their premie kids what the start of their life was like. Degl is also the mother of four, including her micro preemie daughter who was born at 23 weeks gestation in 2012. After writing her first book to give hope to mothers suffering through a high-risk pregnancy and those who have a baby in the NICU, she felt she had to do more.

Jennifer has spoken in front of the United States Congress, the House of Representatives, and the New York State Health Department Medicaid Office to encourage the passing of legislation aimed at helping pregnant mothers and premature babies, as well as several maternal and neonatal health conferences. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of both the NICU Parent Network and the NIDCAP Federation International, and on the Leadership Team of the International Neonatal Consortium. Jennifer is also an author of two other books and a regular contributor to many online writing platforms.
