Description

Fitz Saunders is proud of the Texas ranch he’s spent five years building…until a visit from his father’s accountant reminds him that to receive his inheritance, he must be married by his thirtieth birthday. Which is less than a month away. A mail-order bride seems like the logical and most practical solution.
Tavia Naughton seeks a haven from a childhood raised in Army forts and a series of ladies’ companion positions. An interview with a Texas rancher seems like the answer to her prayers—she plunges into an immediate marriage. Traveling to her new home involves a disaster, and she arrives with an orphaned baby in tow. Nothing is how Fitz envisioned, and Tavia is surprised at Fitz’s resistance to change. Both come to realize they may have been hasty and wonder if they’ve made the right decision.

This book was so good! It's well written and the author brings the story to life with her words: you can see the scenery and feel all the emotions. Tavia and Fitz's story will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. This book has drama, suspense and romance and was a joy to read. Thank you Backlit PR via NetGalley for the complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

This was a simple enjoyable book to read. The main characters were interesting and it was nice to see how they solved their problems. I was pleased at the happy ending.

This is my second Linda Carroll-Bradd book; loved the first one I read. Mail-Order Haven drew me in from the description. I imagined an interesting, challenging romance coming. Yet, this book seemed to be more about baby Angela than the relationship between Tavia and Fitz. Although very well written, it was not really a romance. The relationship between H/h seemed very secondary to Angela’s needs.

Tavia is very loving and ‘became’ a wonderful mom, but not a romantic figure. She has had to be strong and independent being herself an orphan.

Fritz seemed to have adjusted to the situation. I loved his honesty in sharing the need for a wife up front. But, they did not seem to spend any time together in conversation, whether with Angela present or without Angela. The story seemed to be more about her than about them getting to know each other.

The recipe book Tavia saved was mentioned making use of it for one meal. I never understood the abhorrence Fritz had for Christmas. I was not quite sure why they had separate bedrooms. Did the baby bed ever get delivered? Maybe I missed it. How is it Fritz lived in a ‘small town’ for years but did not know the furniture maker?

I am saddened to provide such a discouraging review and will not post this publicly. From the first book I read, Transforming Emma, I was expecting a much more romantic read. I do appreciate the ‘clean’ aspect without unnecessary sex romps. I am not giving up on Ms. Carroll-Bradd and will look for more of her books, but I believe this one needs a re-write.

Mail-Order Haven by Linda Carroll-Bradd

A mail order bride thrown into marriage.

This book had such potential. The characters start were interesting but there was too much interest spent on the baby and not much romance in this story. A bit disappointing.

I adore mail order brides for some reason! I think because the heroine always takes a leap of faith, sometimes because of desperation or to get away. But they always end up happy and that is what is most important!

Fitz Saunders, a rancher, learns he needs to marry by his 30th birthday to obtain an inheritance. What's a rancher to do? A mail order bride of course. Tavia wants stability. She is weary of always having traveled around and never feeling like home. She answers an ad for a mail order bride.

But things never turn out quite like you think! Her journey brings unexpected additions to her life and she does not know how her new husband will take it. A wonderful addition to this series and a happy ending hopefully will be in the end!

I want to thank the author and Netgalley for gifting me the ebook. I loved this story so much! I wish it was longer instead of a short story. I loved the characters. The story was sweet, I loved the main characters romance. I can't wait to read more from this author.
