Description

Gray Reynolds' world is violently upended when assassins wound him and kill everyone else aboard a speedboat. He then learns from his dying wife that she helped steal $100 million from a notorious drug cartel. Gray's only hope of staying alive is to disappear.

Forced to flee, Gray searches out a remote trout fishing farm in the foothills of the North Cascades that seems to be the perfect hideout. But his identity is not the farm's only secret. Traumatized by the loss of her mother to cancer, a young blind woman believes the mysterious stranger is the man her mother promised would one day come. Her infatuation, however, arouses the desires of her older married sister.

Tensions escalate when a tragedy occurs, raising the possibility of the farm's imminent sale and rekindling the cartel's relentless determination to discover Gray's whereabouts.

In Swimming with the Angels, Colin Kersey has woven themes of longing and grief, love, and sensuality into a thriller of uncommon beauty and depth.

Written from the male character's point of view, this is quite a sad story of a man on the run. The story is gripping, there is a lot of physical and emotional pain in this story and it left me feeling quite hopeless and down.

The book opens with a strong beginning when Grayson's life is turned upside down. Grayson and Heide were a young married couple, but although he thought everything was going in the right direction, Grayson didn't know about the hidden secret that will ruin everything. After the assassin attacked the speedboat where Gray was wounded, and the rest were murdered, he lost everything he aspired to and achieved. It is the moment when he begins the flight to save a life. He had to leave everything behind his back and start somewhere from the very beginning. The story is mainly seen from a male perspective, but there are also chapters seen from a painful and harsh female perspective. I think it gives the whole story more taste, making the book more complicated.

'Swimming with Angles' is a story with lots of wovens themes, where you can find longing and grief. There will be tension, love and lots of depth, seduction and loss. Nothing is so obvious and easy to guess. An unexpected twist opened the book's shocking finale.
The cover gives a sensitive and sensual impression, which confused me at first. It was the moment when I discovered mystery and growing tension with each page.
I recommended it to all fans of mystery and thrillers.

Thank you, NetGalley and Atmosphere Press, for giving me an opportunity to read and review this book.
