I have never made a cocktail by myself in my life and now I want to try all of these! I love the names, the design and the instructions are super easy to follow.

This book would make a wonderful gift for an art lover or cocktail lover in your life! I see this as more beautiful coffee table book and less in-with-the-cookbooks. I love the illustrations- so fun and bright! The Frida Kahlo cocktail sounds the best- with watermelon juice, tequila and lime, garnished with an orchid!

My one complaint is that I wish I could have glimpsed a sample of the works of these artists in this book, but I do see how that would not be consistent with the style of the book. And there’s always google for that!

Having an index at the end was a really nice touch, too.

What a fun book! Art Boozel is filled with information about and cocktails inspired by modern and contemporary artists. An illustrated portrait of each artist features information about their work and a related cocktail. I loved learning about the artists and the assortment of creative beverages. This would be a perfect coffee table book or gift.

I adore this cocktail book and I will be adding the Miranda July and the Donald Judd to my cocktail repertoire. While I am still working my way through making all the artist profiled cocktails, I have enjoyed my journey through art history with these engaging stories. A perfect recipe book for a gift, pairing cocktails with the artist is just a quickly and fun idea.

Art Boozel is a book with plentiful drink recipes based on famous artists.

What a creative book! I thought this was such an interesting concept. I loved that it had a strong introduction to different drink items like glasses, bases, and different items on hand. As a beginner and not a big drinker in general, I thought this was great as it made things less intimidating.

The artwork in the book is gorgeous, I loved flipping through the book! The drinks looked delicious, and I loved the little bios of the artists that went along with the recipes. This was such a great book, I think it would make for an excellent gift.

It bums me out to give this book such a mixed review, but alas. The writing introducing each artist was absolutely delightful - I feel like I learned a bit about each of the artists. The cocktail pairings were generally delightful in terms of how they paired - some by aesthetics, some by *vibes*.

However, the art representing the artists - a portrait in front of a rendition of their work - left a lot to be desired, especially when the artist was darker skinned. Art is subjective, but I didn't love the fact that the darker skinned artists were so difficult to make out. For such an art-focused book, this seemed really off to me.

Art Boozel is such a fun book! I enjoyed reading about some of my favorite artists, as well as being introduced to new ones, and discovering cocktails inspired by these colorful and interesting folks. Cocktails have become a big part of my Saturday nights at home over the past year and I look forward to crafting many of the concoctions from this book, starting with the Henri Matisse and the Diego Rivera.

I loved the whimsical art and think this would be an amazing book to gift to art and cocktail lovers alike.

Note to publisher/authors: Is the title a play on "Art Brothel"? Because the title of the book isn't super appealling and doesn't really convey what the reader's getting. If it's a pun, it's a real stretch.

This book is fun, and it would be a great gift for art lovers/cocktail aficionados (which in San Francisco is a perfect circle, and the only place where I could envision seeing many of these cocktails.)

Like many Chronicle Books, it's a fun, fast, easy read. You get a brief page overview of the artist, their time, their art and impact on the art world, and the recipe for a cocktail that is essentially drinkable art.

But here's where I might diverge from many readers. While I appreciate the mixology and attention to detail in the crafting of these signature artistic cocktails, , I'll be real: for the most part, they're REALLY fiddly, and require a lot of specialized ingredients that may be difficult to obtain, or prohibitively expensive. Or, some are just fancier versions of cocktails that exist already with one thing different (looking at you, James Turrell cocktail, aka Blackberry Bramble). Though creative and surely tasty, I can't see many people making for than one or two of them, and certainly not at an art-themed get-together, which I think, is one of the book's intended uses. I can't imagine searching our activated charcoal to make one specific cocktail, nor can I envision a person at a party making a string of dolled-up Ramos Fizzes. But I CAN see them on the menu of a fancy hipster cocktail bar in SF Bay Area or Portland. These are definitely drinks you'd rather have a bartender make FOR you, than try to master yourself, though if you're the adventurous drinking type, then take a crack at them.

In terms of artists, there's quite a bit of diversity and inclusion, representing 20th-21st century artists from around the world. As with any anthology-type collection, it's always interesting to see who's included and who's left out, and the only artist that I was surprised NOT to find in here is Orlan, who would have been a weird, wonderful, maybe even vaguely terrifying inclusion.

The long & the short of it is: neat overview of art, introduced me to some I didn't know and now I'm interested in discovering their work,. Creative drinks, if a little fro-frou & fiddly. Hey, I guess art itself is a little fiddly and frou-frou, so it makes sense that these cocktails should be approached more as a small, ephemeral object of art that you can drink. So maybe it's performance art, as well as a cocktail.

So fun! I am obsessed with interesting cookbooks and recipe books and when I saw this artists and cocktails book I knew I needed a peep at it. I will definitely be trying out a few of these cocktail recipes for special occasions and the illustrations are so vibrant!

I LOVE this book! Artists & cocktails, cocktails as art, I can't think of a better combination! A brilliantly boozy homage to the world's greatest art festival, without the crowds. This lavishly illustrated compendium of cocktails is chock-full of brief bios of trail-blazing artists - past and present day - each perfectly paired with an inventive libation. This book will be high on my gift-giving list this holiday season!

As someone who is always on the hunt for new and exciting cocktail books, "Art Boozel" caught my eye immediately. This would be an amazing gift for someone in your life who likes booze and art. It would also be a great addition to a bar cart or coffee table. Major kudos to the illustrator, Kelly Shami, for her work here - the full page illustrations really make this book.

As far as the recipes go, they are definitely not basic or ordinary which I LOVED as so many cocktail books repeat the same trends/concepts. Each cocktail is pared to an artist and Jennifer Croll is careful to explain exactly why she selected certain ingredients or methods for each artist. I also appreciated a compilation of simply syrup recipes at the beginning of the book: so intuitive and great if you want to use certain elements of this book to build your own cocktails.

Great book with great illustrations. The cocktails are very creative! I am impressed with the recipes, As a former bartender, I did not need the information on the various bar tools needed to make the recipes, but I appreciate that it is included for those that do.. the book also provides recipes for different syrups that I will be using in the future. This book will make a great house warming present and gift for others. I plan on buying for a couple friends in the future. Thank you NetGalley for the copy.

This is a fun drink recipe book full of original drink ideas paying tribute to artists around the world. A lot of these recipes are, shall I say "quirky", just like the artists they portray, such as a dehydrated tomato for garnish. ART BOOZEL would be a lot of fun for someone who enjoys making cocktails, even better if they're an art fan.

This is probably one of the coolest cookbook/ cocktail books I’ve ever seen! It’s a book you could easily find on one’s coffee table it’s so beautiful. Each artist has their own cocktail created in their image? The cocktails themselves are quite obscure and I wonder how some of the combinations would actually work out. The artwork and descriptions are very entertaining. This one shouldn’t be missed!

The art in this book is fantastic! The recipes seem very easy to follow as well. I read through all of the ingredients for each artist and each one fits so well.
I’m in love with the idea of making a different cocktail for each artist and their art. The syrups all sound so good. I’m definitely inspired to try making my own fresh cocktail ingredients, instead of buying them from a liquor store. Infused gin and vodka sounds so good!

Art Boozel is a fun guide to both the art of drink making and art history. I enjoyed the quick descriptions about each artist and their artwork because it gave me the context about how the drink was designed around their art. As an artist we learned about art history in school I find this book very compelling. I also enjoyed how the drink recipes were simple to follow and had their own creative recipe. This book would make a great gift for any artist or drink mixologist.

This book's title -- a play on the name of the international art fair, Art Basel -- drew me right in. It's a bit of an in-joke so my expectations of the book's art-related content were set higher than they typically would be for a book of this kind. While the content did not meet those higher expectations, often drawing out the salacious, pop-cultural aspects of artists' stories, the book is unquestionably fun. It sets up some playful polemics, like whether a single gooseberry garnish on Kusama's cocktail is sufficient representation of her iconic dots. BYO opinions.

I absolutely delighted in turning page after page of this fascinating, artistically designed cocktail recipe book by Jennifer Croll with illustrations by Kelly Shami. I read this aloud to my sister because I couldn’t help myself from sharing the incredible blurbs on each artist and inspiration that helped to create interesting and one-of-a-kind drinks suited for each artist’s style. I have made a couple of the more tasty (and less daunting) drinks to begin with, but I will definitely be making the more ribald drinks in the future, when the mood strikes and adventure calls forth!

What a fun book of cocktails! This book offers 50+ unique drink recipes inspired by popular modern and contemporary artists.

What I really enjoyed is that each recipe is accompanied by a brief bio of the artist that inspired the drink, and what in particular was the inspiration behind the cocktail, whether it be a specific piece of art or a characteristic the artist uses across all of their work.

Anyone who appreciates art needs to have this book behind their home bars, as well as those who just appreciate a good drink! I would definitely recommend this!

Halfway through #humpday and I think everyone deserves a #cocktail. This amazingly fabulous #book is filled to the brim with #cocktails inspired by modern and contemporary artists, and accompanied by the most incredible, wild illustrations. This is the perfect gift for fans of a good drink and #ashleylongshore style graphics and art. With each #recipe you get a boozy background story of each artist and - trust me - the stories are as good as the drinks.

Art Boozel is one of the most interesting and fun cocktail books I've come across in a while. Each cocktail is paired with an artist, and not always in the most obvious ways. The art throughout the book is gorgeous and I hope that it's captured just as well in the hard-back version I hope to buy. I had a lot of fun trying out some of the recipes and none of them were disappointing. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who enjoys modern and contemporary art, especially those who love to gossip about artists over cocktails.

5☆ Quirky, Fun, Exciting and more than a little bit Boozy!

Wow Art Boozel is one quirky, Fun Cocktail Book with a bit of a twist.

Each Cocktail is inspired by Modern and Contemporary Artists.
Oh and if you love Modern art work your in for a bit of a treat!

The Cocktails are fun and very inventive, but also fairly easy to follow.
I must admit some of the ingredients/ alcohol I had never heard of before but I'm definitely excited to find out more!

What I really enjoyed was that each cocktail has the information behind the artist, so not only are you getting delicious sounding cocktails your also getting an educational treat too.

This would make the perfect gift for someone who loves cocktails or is after a quirky gift and loves Art.
Overall it's a big Cheers from me!
