Description

Raised in New York by a father whose ideas about right and wrong are highly elastic, Sandie Donovan trains as a jewelry forger, thief and con artist, while developing her talent for disguises. On the run from the law, she returns to Manhattan, where she discovers she can employ her acting talents for legitimate, as well as larcenous, ends. When she meets and falls in love with a film producer and inadvertently sets him up for an art robbery, Sandie’s conscience gets the better of her. She vows to return the stolen Warhol, even if it means making herself the target of the most dangerous fence in the city.

“Sandie Donovan is a charming and damaged character, and I rooted for her from the get-go.” — Jenny Shortridge, The New York Times bestselling author of Love Water Memory

“Readers seeking solid urban fiction settings and the spunky but struggling character of a young adult who changes immensely through her experiences and choices will find Sandstorm the worthy and intriguing journey of a daughter who moves beyond subliminally seeking her absent parent's approval, and into the adult world.” Diane Donovan – Midwest Book Review

"A runaway drama turns heist thriller in this tale of growing up too fast"

"Sandstorm is entertaining every step of the way. Yarrow places her reader right in the center of quippy, fast-paced, and oftentimes dark action, making this novel a must-read for young adults coming from all sorts of backgrounds."

"I highly recommend Sandstorm to readers sixteen and older. The book deals with heavy topics such as substance abuse, physical abuse, and sexual exploitation. Though these are often deemed to be more adult topics, this is a coming-of-age story in the sense that too often, kids are put in a place where they are forced to grow up much too fast. But at the center of this story, there is heart, and there is forgiveness."

Sandie Donovan has had an upbringing that would cause most of us to just give up – but not her. She manages to trade on her many dubious “skills”, find legitimate employment that she loves, falls in love and almost ends the life of her “love”. You root for this young woman all through the book. What a character! A complimentary copy of this book was provided to be by NetGalley. The opinions expressed are mine alone. #Sandstorm #NetGalley
