Description

Readers have called her work “life changing,” “pandemic medicine,” and “part of my daily ritual.” Oprah Magazine and the Today Show have featured her work for its timely, uplifting wisdom. Now, Self Love Philosopher Melody Godfred shares her first poetry book, Self Love Poetry: For Thinkers & Feelers, a collection of 200 thought-provoking and heart-opening self love poems.

In Self Love Poetry, Godfred explores concepts like authenticity, surrender, resilience, gratitude, believing in yourself, and of course, love, through 100 pairs of poems, each dedicated to a central theme. On the left side of the book are "thinker" poems that light up the analytical, more literal, left side of the brain, and on the right side are companion "feeler" poems that speak to the creative, more emotional right side of the brain. Combined, the poems electrify the mind, body and soul through a completely unique poetry experience that inspires each of us to embrace all parts of ourselves. This empowering poetry book will not only engage you to think and feel, but will make you feel seen, show you how to love yourself, and encourage you to seek out the hope and beauty in the world … and in yourself. It’s the perfect gift for yourself or someone you love, especially after a most difficult year.

I really enjoyed the concept of this poetry collection. The author has organized and paired poems together, with each pair sharing a “left brain - thinker” and “right brain - feeler” perspective for each topic, all centered on the theme of self love. Reading through this lens felt so refreshing - and I found myself bouncing between poems to read them more than once on multiple occasions. I’d definitely recommend this as a read to those looking to explore self love more through poetry in addition to liking the appeal of exploring analytical vs. emotive expression!

I read this book in a really stressful time, and it was very soothing. I liked how there were two poems related to every theme, and I found myself sometimes relating more to the thinking side and other times the feeling side, which was really cool. I enjoyed Melody’s words and will try to keep them in mind as this chaotic season continues.

Self Love Poetry by Melody Godfred is the perfect balm for a battered and bruised psyche during a time that has been trying for so many. Drawing the components of left and right brain function into parallel and contrasting verses, the analytical side of the brain is juxtaposed with the emotional side to create a complete and mindful journey toward a more comprehensive understanding of self love. This beautiful collection resonated deeply with me, and I found myself returning to many verses that demanded deeper contemplation. The collection as a whole will stay with me.

There is contained within this book some invaluable advice for living a more self-loving, authentic life, and I will highly recommend it to family and friends.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for an ARC.

Read this in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. So many of the author's words resonated with me on such a deep level. I will recommend this book to anyone and everyone. The words are beautiful, honest, raw and deep.

This is definitely something I will come back to again and again to read the words.

My first #NetGalley review, and it's such a wonderful book 😍

"Self Love Poetry" by Melody Godfred - out October 5th, 2021

It's filled with beautiful poetry about self care, self love, and self discovery, all from two perspectives - our left and right sides of our brains. You flip between poems about how things are - Godfred at therapy, as a mother, her advice for work - and how things feel - the pain and struggles, trying to stay present and just enjoy moments...You read it and just feel less alone.

I kept thinking that it'll be the perfect gift for my sister, my mum, my besties, my co-workers, you name it.. But in the spirit of #selflove I think the first copy I'll buy is for me 🥰 (and then a bunch more for them)

‘A transcendent, unique experience that will have you feeling lighter when you turn that final page.’

Reading this book was very much a journey for me. A real, empowering and enchanting journey that left me feeling lighter at the end. The concept of providing right/lefthand brain (thinkers/feelers) was completely unique to me and was of instant interest.

I am so grateful to @netgalley and Andrew’s Mcmeel Publishing for an eArc of Self-Love Poetry to review but mostly to Melody Godfrey for these beautiful words that will stay with me.

I will be purchasing this collection ASAP.

This self empowering poem book is what I needed in my darkest moments.
Sometimes you just need to hear (or read) what may seems obvious. Put yourself first is a hard job and self love is ever harder. Letting yourself rest your brain reading those short poems is the best gift you can give yourself.

I loved the fact that it is split in “left brain” and “right brain”. Left is more straightforward: your affirmations and the best part of you. Right side is more emotional: you need to listen to your emotions and your needs.
Overall, it is about the acceptance of our weaknesses and work through those to empower yourself.

A very uniquely written bundel of poems. Loved how it was the thinker and the feeler side, it was really interesting to basically see the "same" poem being written twice.

''I loved myself into the light''

For a person with constant self-love issues, this is one of the best self-love centered poetry collections I've read this year. Many poems reached my soul. I specially loved that it was divided between ''thinkers'' and ''feelers''. The contrast between the two makes it great. I wish I'd read this sooner.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this before publication date.

I love how this collection has each poem written two ways. First she gives you the left brain poem, and directly after that one for right brain. I enjoyed comparing them.

Nothing can change, and I will still be joyful."

I am so picky when it comes to poetry but i am so so glad i picked this up!!

I am certain that everyone can find at least one poem in this collection that speaks to them, and they’re all so beautifully written it’s hard not to find something in all of them that resonates with you.

I will definitely read this over and over in the future.

I don't read a lot of poetry, but I'm so glad I picked up this book!

I can say with certainty that everyone will resonate with at least one of these poems.

The two different styles speak to different parts of my personality and I felt connected to so many of these poems.

These poems were beautiful, and I really related to them. There were many that I really needed to hear. One of my favorite lines was “Doing less doesn’t make you worth less.” It’s something we all need to hear more often!

Typically I don't read poetry, however I really enjoyed this book. To start off the poems are not overly long. I've read some poetry books where the poems are really long and it makes me feel disconnected from the poem and I don't engage as well. However the poems in this book were the perfect length. I also love how this books is divided by poems for the left brain or the thinkers and the right brain or the feelers. I love reading the poems that are meant for those sides of the brain and as a person who is more right brained, I loved the poems in that section. Overall a great poetry book

This book is beautifully organized, starting off with the right brain and left brain, each following page has a "thinking" poem across the page from a "feeling" poem that relates to it. I thought I would relate more to the thinking poems but I found myself being equally drawn to poems on both sides. These poems are beautiful, they're real, and they explore all aspects of self love, and how difficult self love can be. I even wrote some of these poems down on post-its so I can see them around my house on bad days. I'll be buying a copy of this book when it comes out!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a free copy in exchange for my honest feedback.

Oh, man. I FEEL (if you read this book, you'll so get this little pun) like the universe put this book in my path for a reason. In her "Self Love Poetry", Melody Godfred truly did examine so many sides to what it means to be on a journey of self-love, growth, and healing. So much of what she managed to write down in such short, impactful lines resonated so deeply with me. She truly examine all the aspects and thoughts that come with learning to forgive yourself--learning to love yourself, too, for the sake of yourself first. There were so many powerful poems in this book, I felt myself tearing up through most.

I truly can't recommend this enough. If you're on your path of healing (even if you still need a little push to take the first step), this is definitely the book to read.

Thank you Netgalley for providing me with an eARC of Self love poetry. This reminded me of the times I would reblog poetry on tumblr that was heart achingly relatable and powerful. That is what this poetry collection is. These poems are extremely empowering and motivational. They put into words the pain of putting yourself back together and finding love in yourself. Everything I strive to be has been cultivated into beautiful, lyrical prose and I’m grateful that I was able to read this.

This poetry collection has made it to the top 10 books of the year for me. This collection was very inspiring and made me feel like someone else understands where I am coming from when I struggle with my anxiety and depression. When you feel down and feel like nothing is going right for you I highly recommend that you pick up this uplifting collection of poetry and escape into a world that you might not know you need at the time!

This book had beautiful lines about self love from thinkers and emotionally sensitive person’s perspective. I enjoyed each page of the book. I definitely recommend this book to every one since sisterhood and self love can only save the world.

I would have to say this is a 4.5 stars, but rounding it up to 5 stars for good measure. I loved this book, definitely such well written poetry that I would recommend.

Was some of it boring? Yes, but that is okay.

But also some of it was the best poetry I have ever read and I love that, and hope I can read more from this author.

We won’t all like everything author writes, and that’s the same with poetry. Melody did such a great job and I related to a lot of the poems, but others just didn’t connect/resonate with me(and that’s okay, because it could’ve connected with other readers more)

Not every poem is going to hit you, but you're going to think about every poem because you're going to read it twice--once in a version that's inspired by the logical left side of the brain and next in a version inspired by the creative right side of the brain. As you read, you'll feel a bit like your brain is getting a workout.

This was a cool experience and I would definitely recommend reading it and then making all your friends read it.
