Description

Will befriending a despicable Piranha put a cheerful goldfish’s life in peril?

Will she become the nasty Piranha’s next dinner???

Find out right now! In — I CAN BE KIND —, a modern-day fairy-tale that takes place in a unique pet shop where all the animals are cheerful and happy, except for that gloomy Piranha whose only pleasure in life is to terrorize his neighboring goldfish.

With totally revamped illustrations, “I can be kind” is sure to enchant children 5—8 years old.

Previously known as “The Piranha and the Goldfish” or “The not so bad piranha.”

When a headstrong goldfish stands up to a Piranha and shows him what it is like to be kind, caring and generous, it enriches and transforms his life forever.

This hilarious picture book about a Piranha who is always in a terrible mood is perfect for young children learning how to deal with confusing anger, making friends and standing up to bullies.

Throughout this remarkable short story, Oscar the Piranha will learn what kindness means and understand what it is like to be sensitive, caring, and generous.

Oscar, the Piranha, has a bad temper, bad manners, and a bad attitude. But when one bold little goldfish named Marla decides to confront Oscar and even goes to the extent of befriending him, the outrageously bitter Piranha starts to feel happy for the first time in his life.

This Rainbow Gal’s charming short story, which includes dazzling illustrations, and delightfully practical LARGE PRINT, is a funny yet touching tale that reminds us of the classic “Beauty and the Beast” with the remarkably transformative potential of willpower, acceptance and friendship.

*Teaching kindness to children is always an important goal for parents, and this children’s book presents a unique story imparting this lesson.

In a Brooklyn pet shop, a variety of older animals – from cats and dogs to birds and chameleons – are sold to caring people.

The aquariums are displayed in one corner of the store. One of these held Oscar, a grumpy piranha. He was rescued by a sewer worker after his owner threw him down the drain. Oscar’s only pleasure in life was to taunt and scare the goldfish in the aquarium next to him. Also, he is a carnivore, meaning his only meal was a goldfish every day. A brave goldfish named Marla befriended him, eventually changing his life by showing him love. In the children’s book titled I Can Be Kind, written by Rainbow Gal, a captivating tale is told.

This book provides many opportunities for parents to reinforce the values of caring and loving kindness. Additionally, Oscar’s decision to become a vegetarian will be welcomed by many families.

The illustrations in this book are very detailed and simply delightful. Adults and children alike will be fascinated by how the animals’ personalities are revealed in the drawings.

At the back of the book, black-and-white sketches of previous pages provide coloring opportunities for children.

Author Rainbow Gal’s book, I Can Be Kind, would be a wonderful addition to any young child’s library.

It will be read over and over again – initially by parents and then by new readers.

*This story caught me right off the page. I found the colors of the book to be inviting, the story to be super cute and the characters to be likable. Even the bully in the end. I found lessons for children in this book and I love when an author can build lessons within a book. This author did not disappoint when it came to providing a beautiful book for parents to read to their children, teachers to read in school, and children to read in their little nooks at home. I hope all will enjoy and think twice about all the animals in their lives.--Christina J Lopez

"I can be kind"" is a great story, one that kids will enjoy. They will find it hard to forget its message. There is also a good chance that the tale will change their lives by teaching them that they can be kind to other people, even not so good people and even animals.

It is a story about a piranha, Oscar, a mean carnivorous fish who consumes other animals every day - until he meets Marla, a goldfish, and falls in love.-

*This is an adorable, sweet, and heart-warming story about pets, especially about pet fish, and the power of kindness. The story flows nicely and has a heart-touching ending that will leave you and your child wanting to be kind. I appreciate the message-- adopt a pet! The illustrations are beautiful and realistic and there are even coloring pages at the back!--Jesica Nkouaga

*Such a sweet story of friendship and the ability to change and grow. The kids loved the book and kept engaged in the story. Loved the illustrations too.--Tara Lou Designs

*I really enjoyed reading I Can Be Kind by Rainbow Gal. The story has a good message for kids, using a carnivorous fish such as a piranha as the mean, bully character, which learns that he can be kind to his fellow fish friends. It also teaches children some things about animals, too. I Can Be Kind has nice illustrations and the right amount of pages to keep them entertained. My favorite part is the lovely happy ending (no spoilers!) as well as the black and white art that could be used as coloring pages. If I were still an early ed teacher, I'd share this book with my class.--Andrew

This is a creative take for a lesson in kindness, although I was a bit disturbed by the pet shop feeding goldfish to a piranha. We are currently looking for a forever pet and the books message regarding that search was near and dear to my heart.

I really enjoyed I can be kind. It is a simple way to teach my students that we can change. The piranha Oscar learns that, although his natural habit is to eat goldfish, once he befriends Marla he is no longer interested. He learns that he can change and he can be happy with Marla eating the fish food.

Reading time was definitely a hit today when we read I CAN BE KIND. My group of young readers sat quietly and attentively as I read to them of how one small goldfish could make a difference for his whole neighborhood. A very lively tale that we all loved. And since I had to immediately "read it again", the popular vote says it should be read by everyone!
