First book that I have read by Liz Tolsma. I definitely enjoyed it. Loved the dual time element. The past was more interesting than the present but I did enjoy both stories and how they were connected. The past takes place when the battle of the alamo happened. I liked this part because I have been to The Alamo twice so I knew what the places being referenced looked like. This could be a difficult read for some with there being a lot of intense and tragic moments. It was hard to read sometimes but was so well written I pressed on wanting to see what happened next. Overall a great story. Very clean. There are some references to rape but not really much said in detail. This is not a light-hearted read so please know that in advance but it is a very good story.

I really enjoyed this book by Liz Tolsma. She did a good job dropping her characters into a very troublesome time and make you feel like you were really there in the midst. I knew what was coming in history - it kept my attention and kept me wanting to read what happens to these dear characters in it. I liked the time slip element and she handled that really well. I recommend this book highly.

Liz Tolsma truly brings the 1836 Alamo to life in A Promise Engraved. I love historical fiction that makes you feel like you are there living it. It makes me want to learn more about this time in our history - good thing I have a friend who lives near San Antonio that I plan to visit in the near future!

Liz took a hard story line with Josie and brought it to a beautiful ending. While I enjoyed Kayleigh's contemporary story and the mystery of the ring, I really fell in love with Josie and John.

If you like dual-time lined stories, I think you'll really enjoy this. I spent a very gratifying afternoon reading it. This was my first book by Liz Tolsma but will not be my last!

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.
