Description

Three sorority sisters enjoy an exclusive resort vacation in Mexico…until one of them doesn’t come home.

As a frantic search for missing college student Avery Jennings begins, it appears everyone is hiding something—Avery’s family and friends, the resort’s staff, and its wealthy guests. It’s up to FBI Special Agent Victoria Heslin to dig deeper and figure out which of those secrets matter. Motivated by her own mother’s abduction years ago, she’s determined not to let Avery become another missing person statistic.

When Victoria grows frustrated with the investigation and her limited jurisdiction in Mexico, she defies orders and takes matters into her own hands. Facing powerful and connected criminals, she plummets into a hellish ordeal that will test her strength and courage like never before.

“How much will you risk to find this girl?” the Federale Officer asked.

“Whatever it takes,” Victoria answered without hesitation.

Great book! This is the first book I have read by Jenifer, but have already ordered two others from the library. I can't get enough of beach vacation books first of all, and can't get enough of thrillers secondly. This book takes three college girls who go to Mexico on vacation. One has a positive covid test and on her way to quarantine, she disappears. Enter the FBI who determine she was actually kidnapped. What happened to her? Will they find her alive? great suspense!

My Review

I received an ARC of this book from NetGally. This book comes out 07 Oct 2022.

This was a fun, engaging read and for a book of 123 pages, it was a very quick read. For such a short book, it packed a punch. All the characters were fully fleshed out. The scenery was very vivid. All the emotions were there-the panic that a child is missing and the grief that you may not see them again.

FBI Special Agent Victoria Heslin is my kind of woman. Called in to help find Avery Jennings, Victoria is tough, kind, strong and willing to do whatever it takes to bring Avery home alive if possible to her heart-sick parents.

It hooked me from the first page to the last. I was rooting for Victoria to find Avery. Throughout the story, I experienced it all. Happiness, sadness, shock. The feels were all there.

Will I read more from Jenifer Ruff? Definitely. Do I want to read more about Victoria Heslin? Most Certainly. Time well spent, in my opinion.

This book! Let me tell it if you love a good law and order binge, read this book and the 5 that come before it! This is the 6th book in a series of standalone mystery thrillers that follows an FBI agent Victoria! Loved the story, the progression and of course a few good twists in there! Got to read it from different characters perspectives throughout the book which I also loved! This story follows 3 college friends who go to Mexico on Vacation and one goes missing! Watch out for this book hitting the shelves in October and definitely add to you TBR

This was fast paced mystery. It had everything I wanted from a mystery regarding an FBI agent. Working with foreign police, keen older person, determined agents would don’t give up just because they are told to. This was the first book I read by this Author after reading this I now have to go back to read the other books in the series. This was so good.

I really enjoyed reading this one! It hooked me from the very beginning and kept me guessing the entire time!

This is a fast paced, completely captivating suspense/mystery. Absolutely loved it. While this is part of a series, it is completely enjoyable as a standalone.
FBI agents Victoria and Rivera are called to Mexico to help find the niece of a fellow FBI agent who has gone missing while on vacation with her friends. It is a complete race against the clock as two bodies are discovered, and it is obvious that evidence and investigation in Mexico is being compromised to cover for a major drug cartel. Things get pretty intense when Victoria also goes missing.
Highly recommend this book. The characters are truly relatable, the plot was interesting, and flowed easily from scene to scene.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I just finished Vanished On Vacation by Jenifer Ruff. I think it might be her best in the series to date. Her depictions of an elite beach all-inclusive resort were spot on. The new characters were believable and authentic.
I was on edge of my seat the whole time I read. As with all her books, I couldn’t put it down once I started reading. Victoria, Ned, Rivera, Payton, Murphy, and the greyhounds are part of my family now. Looking forward to the next adventure!

A tense gripping plot, that catches you with emotion and fear of what might have happen. A paid trip for friends in the sun to relax before graduating and having jobs. The unexpected happen when one was not going back with them. The questions are many as you read this story and it is definitely one to read.
Given ARC by Net Galley and Books go social for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Great fast paced summer read for any mystery lover!! The storyline was interesting and relatable, and the author did very well at keeping the story engaging.

I really enjoyed getting to tag along with FBI Agent Victoria Heslin. She is a strong and independent lead character!

This was my first read by Jenifer Ruff. I knew it was part of a standalone series going in, and planned to read the others if I liked it. I am happy to report, I will definitely be reading the other books in this series!

FINALLY!!! A book that I couldn't put down!!

This is the first time I've heard of Jenifer Ruff and after reading this I immediately went to the Kindle store and brought the first 5 books in this series.

This was just my idea of a perfect thriller! There were so many twists and turns and the setting and foreign police was a really unique spin on it. This is literally the 1st thriller about someone missing abroad where it has referenced the local culture and local processes so I liked that. It also keeps a good pace throughout and keeps you guessing the whole way through. I'm away to download the authors back catalogue ad we speak! Must read for those who like thrillers or police procedural books

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this book to read and give an honest review.

Avery is on holiday in Mexico with her two friends. When her covid test comes back as positive she is forced to stay in isolation rather than return home. That is the last anyone heard from her.

FBI agent Victoria is sent to investigate by cooperating with the Mexican police.

First off I didn’t realise that this was a series. I haven’t read any others but it didn’t spoil this story for me. In fact I want to now go back and read the rest and follow Victoria’s story.

I enjoyed this. Typical thriller with red herrings throughout. It was easy to read, and was a relaxing way to spend some time.

Highly recommend.

Another terrific Victoria Heslin, FBI thriller. Victoria heads down to Mexico to look for FBI Division Head Payton Manning's missing niece, Avery Jennings. Avery vanished on the last night of her vacation with friends and Payton manages to pull strings and get the FBI inserted into the investigation, as helpers to the federales working the disappearance. Victoria works the case with fellow Agent Diego Rivera and together they follow the leads as the mystery deepens with very few leads to go by.
Great story line with in depth character portrayal and twists that I never saw coming.

This is my first time reading book by this Author, Jenifer Ruff.

All I can say is I really enjoyed the book! It had me hooked after few pages. I can't help but I feel like I also part of the investigation. that's alone everyone should know how good this book can pull me in.

The story itself isn't something too new if I have to say but it has a very good storytelling. All the characters has a good proportion of their backstory, very fast paced but you don't really find something has missing in, very relevant information.

The tense, thrill, suspense all into one story. this is totally page turner that make you engaged in one sit. As this is a book series and despite this is my first book, I definitely will read her other series as I could say this is a worthy series you can continue!

You are not only presented with a story but also a lesson that you can learn, wherever you are stay alert because the act of crime doesn't see who you are.

Thank you for NetGalley and Publisher for providing ARC in exchange for honest review.

Three sorority girls are on a luxury spring break vacation in Mexico. Avery tests positive for Covid so she has to stay and be in isolation. When she disappears FBI agent Victoria Heslin and her partner are invited to help the Mexican police because Avery is the niece of a prominent FBI division head. Turns out no one is telling everything they know and Agent Heslin must wade through leads to figure out what happened to Avery. This was a crackling good crime thriller and I liked the setting. Being in a foreign country lends an extra air of uncertainty of local customs, culture and crime and a feeling of lawlessness.

I couldn’t put this one down. So much suspense and I was really hoping for a good outcome. This is the 6th book in the series & I hadn’t read the others but was able to keep up just fine with the characters. I look forward to the next installment!

Avery Jennings is a last-year college student on vacation with her friends in Mexico. When she disappears at the end of her trip, her friends and family fear she was abducted.

FBI Special Agent Victoria Heslin is asked to assist in the search. Avery’s aunt is a fellow FBI agent and the Mexican Federales are allowing the FBI to assist at the resort that Avery was last seen.

As they search for Avery, secrets are exposed that could put her life in danger. Will the FBI be able to locate Avery in a foreign county before it’s too late.

This was a great story! I was captivated by the story and was hooked until the end. When I realized it was the 6th book in a series, I got nervous. Then I realized they are all standalone but it did have me wanting to go back and read the other stories!

I read this book as a standalone book but I enjoyed it so much I think I need to invest in the series. The plot was good, descriptive writing captured the scenes and the characters well written. It was hard to guess the twists, but the plot was easy to follow

I loved this story. The never ending drama and suspense kept me coming back for more. The characters were relatable and I found myself rooting for them every step of the way. Victoria is strong and independent and definitely the hero we all need. Looking forward to the next installment already!

The title is so apt and the cover couldn't be any better. I was impressed by the cover and the title hence chose it.

The characterisation of Victoria was on point. I was rooting for her to solve the case and I knew for sure she would. She's this amazing, strong, determined, iron-willed, FBI agent. The duo of Rivera and Victoria was a delight to read. The investigation kept me hooked till the end. The climax was way too beautiful! Those cute doggie moments made it so worth to have given this book a shot. I totally fell in love with the climax. I must say, Teresa impressed me and made me wish for her safe recovery than Avery. The mother's love! The disappearance haunted her. It was tragic and pathetic to watch her go crazy.

Read this if the below excites you,

Mind you, it's not thriller with romance NO it's not. It's a full packed thriller, murder mystery with shade of love.

Can't wait to read the next Victoria's investigation, The Atonement Murders which will be available from March 2023.

Vanished on Vacation was the first book I have read by Jenifer Ruff. I thoroughly enjoyed this read! It was entertaining and I enjoyed the easy writing style. I was definitely looking for opportunities to pick it up and keep reading.

While there were clearly references to previous books in the series, it was just fine as a stand alone book. I will read more books by this author!

Jennifer Ruff has a new fan. This book had me hooked. I was so intrigued by the summary; it reminded me of the Natalie Holloway case. There were parts that were predictable but still kept you guessing and wondering if and how they would find her. Definitely going back to read the other Victoria Heslin books and let’s face it, any other Jennifer Ruff book I can get my hands on.

I really enjoyed this book by Jenifer Ruff. This was a fast paced mystery that kept my interest. The MC Victoria was smart and nice. She was a little hard on herself but I liked her determination. I kind of figured out where the story was going midway, but was excited to see how it would play out. I am looking forward to reading more books about Victoria and the cases she solves.

This was a great book. I loved every paragraph, every sentence and every word of this masterpiece! I read it in 12 hours, which is a lot for me to do! It had everything and more laid out in the novel! I sure hope she writes more! I am totally hooked!

I have not been this hooked on a book in a long time. The basic premise is three girls in their senior year of college go on a trip to Cancun, Mexico. One of the girls, Avery, goes missing. Her aunt Payton happens to be in the FBI, which is how the FBI gets involved. Two agents go down to assist with the investigation and that’s the premise of the book.

What I love about this book is how it’s slowly revealed in pieces. When we first see a POV from Avery, the chapter was so brief that I barely realized that part of the storyline was being exposed. That made me scramble to get to the next sighting of Avery and each time I got a little bit more. It took a long time for that side of the story to become clear but that just made me more urgent to read.

The author did a great job building suspense for a lot of people, including the staff at the resort where Avery and her friends were staying and even Avery‘s family. In the synopsis, it says the female agent Victoria might die trying to bring Avery back, and boy they were not kidding. This was a great page-turner and a very quick read.

As soon as I saw the title of this book, I knew I had to read it! I love thrillers with a vacation setting, and "Vanished on Vacation" certainly lived up to my expectations!

Avery and her two friends go on vacation to an exclusive resort in Mexico; however, on the last day of their trip, a resort employee notifies Avery that she received a positive Covid test and will have to quarantine at the resort. The employee escorts Avery to her room to grab her stuff, and that is the last anyone hears from Avery. Her friends try calling and texting repeatedly, as do her family members, to no avail. Fortunately, Avery's aunt is an FBI agent, and she brings in her friend, seasoned FBI agent Victoria Heslin, to help find Avery.

Apparently this is book 6 in a series of standalone thrillers centered on Victoria Heslin, and after reading "Vanished on Vacation", I definitely want to go back and read all the rest! I found Victoria to be a well-written character, and I enjoyed all the twists and suspense throughout the book. I did feel as though there were a few points throughout the book that were a bit slow, and I lost some interest; however, the pace really picked up in the last 40 percent or so.

I would highly recommend this to anyone who has enjoyed other books by this author, or who enjoys vacation thrillers! You'll be glad to be safe at home (unless you are reading this while on vacation...in which case the jury is out!).

TWs: murder, dismemberment/torture, drug and alcohol use

Thanks to the author, BooksGoSocial, and NetGalley for this arc!!

Jenifer Ruff's latest edition to the Victoria Heslin series offers plenty of suspense, mystery, and danger as Agent Heslin heads to Mexico with fellow agent Rivera to find a missing college student who also happens to be a relative of a colleague. On the last day of 3 sorority sisters' spring vacation one is taken away because her COVID test comes up positive, but she completely disappears. In that the hotel is in Mexico, the FBI is allowed to be in on the search for the American citizen but have to play nice of course with the local police. Top that off with concerned parents who are also there looking and worrying about their missing child. Clues and ideas of what could have happened along with learning, as the reader, where the girl is, you root for Victoria to put all those clues together to get that girl to safety while dealing with suddenly not so cooperative police, parents, hotel employees and more. I like how Ruff brought in COVID to the story as you just can't ignore such a major event across the world when writing a story in present day. Though stand alones, each book in Ruff's series builds on those qualities Victoria has in putting information together to sovle the mystery particularly when an abduction occurs, something she is all too familiar with Victoria puts herself in danger over and over again as solving the mystery is her ultimate goal yet often asks herself why did I do that. Enjoy a good read! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC read.

I will leave a review on Amazon and B&N on Oct. 7th

Jennifer Ruff is a new author for me and overall, I really enjoyed this book. I know this was the 6th book in the series, but I had no problem reading it as a stand-alone. When Avery disappears on her last day of vacation in Mexico, the FBI was called in because she is the niece of one of the agents. Two agents fly down to help assist the local law enforcement, what follows is a fast paced read one that was hard to put down. I most definitely would recommend this book to others.

I received an ARC from NetGalley, and the publisher BooksGoSocial in exchange for my honest review.

FBI Agent Victoria is sent to Mexico to help find Avery Jennings, a college girl who goes missing while on vacation with her friends. Avery was told she had tested positive for Covid and had to quarantine, but that was the last anyone heard from her.

When Victoria & her partner Dante are searching for Avery they find out that they can’t trust many of the people working with the investigation. In order to find Avery they must figure out who is telling the truth, and put themselves in dangerous situations to do so.

I enjoyed this fast paced mystery! Thanks to NetGalley & the publishers for this ARC.

'vanished on vacation' was everything i wanted from a murder-mystery: the thrill, the fast pace, the likeable characters, and especially, a believable plotline with little to no loopholes (did find SOME, but that’s better than most contemporary thriller/mystery books). i enjoyed the steady revelation of clues, and i very much did enjoy the little twist (but i’m not sure what to make of it yet? or if it’s resolved? or if it will be resolved in the upcoming books? many questions). regardless, i can’t believe i haven’t read the rest of the series: picking them up, starting from the first book soon!

This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Three sorority sisters on a trip to Mexico and one gets a positive COVID test so he has to hang back while the other two go home. But she ends up missing. Reminded me of Robert Dugoni and Tracy Crosswhite in the writing style. A little predictable but a very good read and entertaining. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Vanished On Vacation – Jenifer Ruff

A trio of college students head to Mexico for a vacation, including Avery, the niece of FBI Special Agent Victoria Heslin. While preparing for their return home, Avery learns she’s tested positive for COVID, which means she’ll need to remain behind in quarantine until she’s virus free – a possibility they’d been prepared for. But instead, she disappears…

Victoria and her partner Rivera immediately head to the resort where the girls were staying and connect with the local law enforcement, who appear to have done a competent job, and seem willing to share resources. As the agents do their own reconnaissance, by connecting with resort visitors, as well as conversations with Avery’s travel friends, they learn that the male employee who escorted Avery to quarantine was seen in other places about the resort and is even captured in some pictures the girls took. But he’s nowhere to be found and is it quickly determined that he is not resort staff. So, who was he – and why take Avery?

As Victoria digs deeper, an apparent drowning victim is found on the beach, and the Mexican police quickly and inexplicably become much less cooperative. Determined to find her niece with or without their help, she continues her search for this mysterious man – but the wrong question, directed at the wrong person, at the wrong time lands Victoria in a world of trouble, requiring every ounce of strength she possesses to get herself, and her niece to safety…

This was my first foray into the world of Jennifer Ruff and her Victoria Heslin series (Another series!! Yay!!) but most assuredly, it will not be my last. This book had me hooked from the start – the characters are engaging, the plot is well orchestrated and suspenseful - the pages practically turn themselves, and I love me a strong female protagonist! A great read for the beach or a rainy day! I can’t wait to catch up on this series!!

Some books share the same plot but the execution is where I find value in novels like this. I was hooked from the very fast-paced thriller. I loved Agent Victoria and while this is a series, it’s okay to read this as a standalone.

Since this a really short novel, everything moved at a very fast pace. I was really caught up in the investigation and what happened to Avery Jennings. In the beginning, I was kind of lost on how all these characters fit into the story, and finally, it all made sense. The buildup to that moment was amazing. Each chapter held a significant clue on what direction the story was going.

While there were a lot of characters I liked how the readers got to read from each of their perspectives. I think that’s what helped everything make sense in the end. The readers aren’t just relying on the agents' inferences on what is going on instead, the readers get the full story. I already knew Payton was going to play an important role in Avery’s abduction- being her aunt and an FBI agent.

Agent Victoria Heslin is truly a great agent. I haven’t read the whole series to really speak on her character but from what I have read in this book, I think there was significant character growth. She was vulnerable and stopped holding up barriers. Also, her love for animals just makes her lovable.

Since this is my first Jenifer Ruff novel, I’m not used to her writing. It was difficult for me to get used to it. I read an ARC so there are still some grammatical errors that need to be fixed but other than that it is a great novel. I’m looking forward to reading more books from the series.

I was not sure what to expect began to turn the pages.

It has been awhile since I have read a Thriller and I was not sure how wide open bedroom doors might be.

Actually there were no Romantic scenes at all.

But there are several murders of young women and some gripping details in the form of mutilation.

The story is fast paced.

I enjoyed Victoria as a main character. The author did a great job of getting this reader upto speed with Victoria's recent past as well as her younger life and how/why she became an FBI agent. There is alot of back story with Victoria and her current boyfriend. And agent Rivera who have a past together.

There were lots of characters weaving in and out of the story.

From Avery (the missing girl), her friends, her parents, an FBI agent aunt, the hotel guests and staff. The Mexican Police other FBI agents and a whole slew of bad guys.

As I write I wonder how I kept them all straight. But I did.

To me that is a sign of a very good well written story. I applaud author Jennifer Ruff.

I was surprised at the twist at the end after all the investigation is over and all the secrets came out leaving me wondering how Victoria's relationship with Rivera will develop in future installments.

I enjoyed this book so much that I will add the earlier books in the series to my Wish List.

The only negative I have is there is one character that I wish would have been able to escape the bad guys and become a regular in the series.

I received an ARC copy of Vanished On Vacation from Net Galley.

Vanished on Vacation is a mystery thriller about Avery, niece of an FBI agent, who is told her COVID test was positive and she would be required to stay. After leaving with the resort employee for the retest, she wasn’t found, seen, or heard from again. FBI Agent Victoria is sent to Mexico with another agent to assist with the search.

Legit police crime novels can be a bit hit or miss for me, only because of how gorey and technical they can be. I really liked that this mystery balanced police practice and procedure while still being a page-turning thriller.

I thought the mystery was really well done as it allowed me to play along but it wasn’t obvious. Looking back, the mystery makes sense and wasn’t a total surprise.

My only complaint is that some of the characters were just in likable - the parents being the worst. I totally get that when your kid goes missing, all logical reasoning goes out the window, but I was rolling my eyes and actually feeling annoyed.

ARC was provided by publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

3 girls on vacation in Mexico, but one of them doesn't come home. FBI agent Victoria Heslin is tasked with finding out what happened, but meets with suspicion from the local Mexican police. Then a second woman vanishes and Victoria suspects the cases are linked. This was a good suspenseful read, and I would certainly read others in the series.

Fast-paced thrills!

I stepped out of my usual genre to read this book by an author I've never read before, and now I'll be looking forward to others! Victoria is an experienced FBI agent, and her partner is Rivera. They're a good team, and when a niece of one of their own disappears, they are sent to Mexico to bring Avery home.

I think that elements of this story may have been inspired by the Natalee Holloway story, as there are initial similarities between the two cases. Once beyond the initial though, the story takes a different turn and Victoria's life is endangered.

I liked the chemistry between Victoria and her boyfriend Ned, but would like to see more of their story in the future. Ned plays a minor but important role in this book. Would also like to see what happens between Payton and Rivera.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

Vanished on Vacation follows the story of missing Avery Jennings.

Avery appears to be your average college aged girl; she's in Mexico celebrating one of her friend's birthdays. Their vacation is coming to an end, and prior to them leaving she is told she must quarantine due to a positive COVID test. After gathering her belongings, she just "vanishes."

What I liked:
-I like that this is a story we've all heard before. Young woman is on vacations and goes missing. Not all of these cases end well, but it hits a bit close to home. I liked that even though this was book 6 in a series, it's still a standalone book. There was great character development, and I don't feel like I missed anything by not reading the previous books. The chapters were nice and short. There were multiple POVs, but they were not overwhelming; they were so easy to follow along. Each chapter left me wanting more, thus making this book bingeworthy.

What I would have like to see more of:
-I would have liked a bit more of Payton's POV. There was one part that I feel like could have had a bit more insight (after she found the envelope on the porch). There was some missing information there that could have added to the storyline. I wanted to hear more from her and her thoughts.

Final thoughts:
-This was a solid thriller for me. There was great character development, the story was paced really well, and there were no loose ends. I did not find it to have many twists, but that is perfectly ok. I figured out the ending about 60% in, but it did not affect me wanting to go forward. I was invested and wanted to find out "why" ultimately.

I would recommend others to read this book. I am looking forward to reading more from this author. It was a breath of fresh air.

When you read a lot of thrillers, it's easy to get caught up in wanting it to be super twisty and hard to figure out. Sometimes you just need a good, solid thriller with awesome characters and a solid plot.

I rate Vanished on Vacation 4/5 stars!

No 6 in the Agent Victoria Heslin series.. it follows 3 college students on holiday in Mexico, when one disappears in comes Victoria to solve the puzzle. Good characters! Like all her books just when you think you have figured the mystery out, there is always a surprise. Enjoyable read.

Avery, a student, disappears in Mexico when on vacation with her friends. She is told she tested positive for Covid and is being quarantined. She's not seen from again. Her wealthy and influential family calls in some favors and gets FBI agent Victoria assigned to the case.

Victoria feels the Mexican government is not cooperating with her and risks her own life to try to save and find Avery.

Really enjoyed this book and propelled me to start at the beginning in the series. Do not think you need to read in order to appreciate.

On Avery’s last day of her Mexican vacation with her sorority sisters it’s suddenly “OMG! Positive test! 😭😭😭😭😭😭” The positive COVID test requires her to stay behind and quarantine…and promptly disappear.

FBI agent Victoria Heslin, in her 6th book (but which functions as a standalone), gets involved early since Avery is the niece of the FBI’s Financial Crimes Department. She and another agent, Dante Rivera, go to Mexico with Avery’s parents to meet with the Mexican police and the resort manager. It seems like everyone, including the sorority sisters, are holding back on details. The Mexican police admit that thousands of women go missing every year (although not usually Americans at luxury resorts) and one body with tied hands was just found offshore. Is that going to be Avery’s fate?

I just love these types of crime procedurals. There’s a steady revelation of clues, you are certain that the lead character (Victoria) isn’t an unreliable narrator, and as the mystery reveals itself slowly, there’s a satisfaction when you can finally see the big picture. Victoria Heslin is a well-developed character, worthy of a continuing series. I haven’t read any of the previous novels (I will definitely read them now), so this works great as standalone, although there are references to previous cases. Her relationship with Ned the vet is obviously evolving and I’d love to see what’s next for the two of them. 4 stars!

Literary Pet Peeve Checklist:
Green Eyes (only 2% of the real world, yet it seems like 90% of all fictional females): NO Blue, brown, hazel and even bloodshot and black, but no green eyes.
Horticultural Faux Pas (plants out of season or growing zones, like daffodils in autumn or bougainvillea in Alaska): MAYBE Upon arrival at the resort, Victoria breathes in a sweet fragrance she thought was tropical hibiscus — nope. Most hibiscus generally have no scent. (NOTE: I reviewed this an advanced review copy and the delightful author saw this criticism and changed the final copy to plumeria — a beautiful and very fragrant flower).

Wow! This book was incredible and I absolutely fell in love with Jennifer Ruff’s storytelling. This book is apart of a standalone series, and my first book that I have read by the author. I definitely do not think you need to read the other books in order to read this one, although it seems they do give reference to previous mysteries that have been solved by Victoria Heslin. The story alternates between multiple characters, with FBI agent Victoria Heslin as the main character. It was a quick mystery that was told wonderfully!

Late last night after my third fight with the pillow and snoring husband I gave up and started scrolling . I was too tired to research but too awake to sleep so I was just going to pick a book based on a cover ….

Vanished on Vacation
By: Jennifer Ruff

This was an easy read that I flew through in just a couple of hours . This book gets straight to the point. No repetitiveness or corny dialog. The twist was just enough to give you a gasp and the characters were the perfect blend of likable and unlikable.

I’ve been on a great streak with some awesome books and Vanished on Vacation was another A plus thriller!

Kudos to Jennifer Ruff!

Vanished on Vacation by Jennifer Ruff

This is a Victoria Heslin #6 in the series. Three sorority sister friends decide to take a vacation to Mexico during the covid pandemic. To leave from Mexico the three girls need to test negative to go back home. The day before they leave Avery is told by "staff" that she tested positive and needs to go to the quarantine rooms. Avery then ends up coming up missing and she is the second girl in the last couple months that has disappeared from the hotel.

Victoria Heslin is an FBI agent and is assigned to go find the FBI director's neice along with Dante Rivera. Avery parents are there as well meeting with local police to figure out what happened to their daughter.

This was a well told story I was pulled in right away and it kept me flipping the pages until the end. I liked the character of Victoria she is a bad ass FBI agent and I like how to works diligently to get to the bottom of the case.

To be honest this is the first book I have read in this series and I can't wait to read the other books and future books from this series. Jenifer Ruff knows how to pull her readers in and make them feel like they are helping solve the case. This is a five star read for me. I recommend this book it can be read as a standalone. The mystery plays out and you follow along with how the case was solved. Will Avery be found dead? Who would want to take Avery? Why? You should not be disappointed in picking this up to figure out why?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars

"Three college students enjoy a luxury resort vacation in Mexico…until one of them disappears."

Loved, loved, loved this! Hooked me immediately and never let go!
Talk about a mom's worst nightmare!

Avery Jennings and two of her college friends head to Mexico for a last hurrah as seniors. On the last day at the resort, Avery goes missing after a resort employee tells her that she tested positive for COVID. The two friends head back to school thinking that she has been placed in quarantine.

No one hears or sees from Avery after walking away with the resort employee. Frantic to find their daughter, Avery's parents call in help from Avery's aunt who works for the FBI. Unfortunately she has a huge upcoming trial that she has to stay back for but she does call in Agent Victoria Heslin to take the case.

Victoria and her partner, Dante Rivera, work tirelessly to retrace Avery's last moments before disappearing. At times being booted out of the investigation by Mexican enforcement, Victoria goes above and beyond to bring Avery home.

Very suspenseful thriller! 5 stars from me on this one!

Thank you @netgalley for this ARC for my honest review 🙂

I enjoyed the book. It kept me interested right to the end. 3 sisters enjoy a long weekend away. One vanishes after being told she is positive to covid but is this correct. But everyone seems to be holding secrets, who can be believed. I liked all the characters, there was a mixture of suspension and intrigue. I haven’t read any of Jenifer Ruff’s books before but I will cer be looking out for others.

This is a new to me author and I have to say I am looking forward to reading more by this author! I loved this book

Even though this is part of a series, all of the books apparently work as standalones, which is how I read this. I enjoyed that I could just jump right in to book 6 and didn't feel lost whatsoever. The book did a good job of giving just enough background information about past events that you'd know what was going on, but if you've read past books you wouldn't feel like it was constanstly repeating itself.

Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed this from the very beginning. It hooked me in almost immediately, and I finished it pretty quickly because I was really into the mystery and wanted to know what was going to happen next. I would say it was pretty fast-paced overall.

I wouldn't say that was really any sort of shocking twist or anything, but still the book kept me interested throughout. I will definitely be checking out more books about Victoria Heslin in the future.

I didn't realize until after I finished that this was part of a series! I really loved the suspense in this one, and the story was ripped straight from the headlines we all unfortunately know. It was super fast paced!

I’m bad but I didn’t realize this was part of a series so I started with this one although it is number six in the series. It was a very quick read only 123 pages I wish it was more, this was a one day read. It was a fun read with a bunch packed in it, I enjoyed it. Everything was detailed so good it was very vivid. All the emotions were the panic that a child is missing and the grief that you may not see them again. I was fully rooting for Victoria to find Avery. This was a very feelings book I went through it all, happiness, sadness and shock. I just wish it was longer!

This was a great thriller I read on holiday! Fast-paced and filled with some unexpected twists and turns. Thriller-lovers must not miss this one!

I started this series in a weird fashion. This is book 6 but I actually read book 7 first. Then I went back and read books 1-5 and then came back to this one. While it can be read as a stand alone it’s better as part of the series. I love Victoria as a main character but I also enjoy the side characters as well. I like that while romance was hinted early on with her partner Dante that they didn’t go there. So they have a strong friendship and their professional dynamic works really well. This mystery was really current, and played into fears people have of being overseas and contracting covid and being under different infection control rules. I think the author played a little fast and loose with Victoria playing by her own rules in Mexico but this was a minor quibble. The mystery kept me engaged and I read the whole book over a rainy Sunday. Probably stayed up too late haha. Thanks to Ms Ruff, Netgalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend this series

This was my first book by Jenifer Ruff and definitely won’t be my last. It is the 6th book in the series but can easily be read as a stand alone book.
I enjoyed this book from the beginning as it was such an easy read. There were twists and turns throughout although some were a bit predictable, this did not take from the enjoyment of the book for me though.
Towards the end there were a few grammatical errors and missing words in sentences but this wasn’t a massive issue as I’m sure they will have been fixed before the book is published and released.

Well written, excellent characters, entertaining and very smooth reading except for a few unnecessary jumps in time and place.
