The Prickly Problem is a charmingly illustrated book that teaches both young and adults to show kindness and acceptance, and also not to judge someone based on their looks or without knowing them well. It reminds us that everyone has different burdens and can be misunderstood for their behaviors.

It’s a lovely lesson, done in a way that kids can enjoy reading. Kids will also enjoy the fact that there’s a Youtube video of the characters in this book to watch after reading!

Thank you, NetGalley and BooksGoSocial, for the e-ARC.

Thank you for the ARC. I don't review many children's books now that I no longer work as a reading teacher/librarian but I do read about 6 a day as a mom of second graders.
I read this with one of my twins last night and we loved it. The lesson is that love and hugs can cure a grumpy person, and it is real, assuming they want love and hugs.
It was very sweet and we really enjoyed it. The illustrations are wonderful as well.

This book is so sweet! While Doctor Pete is clearly a great doctor, he is also loving and kind to his neighbours too. Pete is an expert in all problems, especially prickly ones and he can fix them quickly. The illustrations in this book are adorable and the way the writing flows is perfect for a small child to follow along.

This one will have the little ones laughing hysterically and entertained throughout. A precious and funny story that, overall, is all about the importance of having compassion and kindness, even when you’re dealing with the most prickly of people. Featuring Dr. Pete the Porcupine a quirky magic potion making porcupine physician and some of his desert neighbors, this one will have you smiling at its heartfelt message of friendship, compassion, kindness, and more.

How cute this book is!!!
The dedication had me tearing up, and then I was smiling and giggling at the absolute adorableness of Dr. Pete, the porcupine. The rattlesnake cure was my favorite. The teamwork theme was spot on and well portrayed. I want to send this book to some friends for their babies!!!

I loved this book! The message, the storytelling and the illustrations.

Almost made me tear up at the end. We could all use a hug sometimes…although you’ll still never catch me hugging a cactus lol.

This was a great book and would be fun to read to elementary school students. I think 1st through 3rd graders would like it best.

A cute story about friendship and the power of caring with adorable illustrations of Dr. Pete the Porcupine helping out his friends and neighbors. The bright and lively pictures of desert creatures adds to the fun of this sweet little book.

Dr. Pete, the porcupine, spends his day as usual, solving all of the prickly problems of his friends. For example, Jake the Snake needs a cure to get his rattle back, and Liz the Lizard could use some cream for her itchy scales. Dr. Pete always doles out the best medicinal cures for his friends, and ends every appointment with a hug.

After work one day, his friends gather to ask Dr. Pete for his help, Cactus Jack is too mean and is hurting everyone’s feelings! Try as he might, using potion after potion, nothing seems to make Cactus Jack any less mean. While Dr. Pete climbs up Jack to check his heart, he suddenly falls, causing him to hug onto Jack as hard as he can!

As Cactus Jack quickly changes into someone much kinder, they all realize that it was always the hugs that Dr. Pete gave that actually helped the most.

A fun children’s book that shows that even the grumpiest of people can be made better simply by being shown kindness.

Thank you to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read and review this title.

This book would be a good addition to a social skills curriculum or group. It tackles how to see past negative behaviors and search for the true reason why someone may be acting that way. I liked the message of leading with empathy and not assuming the worst in people. I enjoyed the adorable illustrations and appreciated the link to related materials including a song, which could be incorporated into a lesson plan.

The Prickly Problem was pretty perfect with all the P words. I read this with my 6 year old grandson and we had lots of fun with this book. The pictures were big and colorful. The characters were captured perfectly. My grandson and I agreed that hugs really are healing. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Waterhole Productions, LLC and NetGalley. Dr. Pete (the porcupine) is such a caring and empathetic doctor with many friends. All of his friends look to him knowing they will receive loving care.

Dr. Pete wears a coat to take extra care not to poke his patients / friends when they want to hug him after his dedication to making them well again. This is a fun and loving story, which also shares compassion and kindness with an outsider to the group. Empathy, kindness, and friendship are so important in young lives.

The illustrations are so vibrant, sweet, and full color. The character’s sweet faces had me smiling during the whole story. The illustrated pages are as beautiful to look at as the story held within.

*There are also some porcupine facts at the end of the book for those little minds who want to know more.

I received complementary advance reader copy of this book for review purposes. The opinions, in this review, are my own. Thank you for the opportunity to read this wonderful book. .

This was a family favorite, our youngest daughter who is 6 loved reading this over and over. The characters are relatable and helps to navigate the big feelings sometimes.

The Prickly Problem is an adorable book about how the "simplest thing" can solve a problem. Without giving away the story, Dr. Pete the Porcupine is caring for a number of patients, until one comes along with a different problem and doesn't seem to want help.

I enjoyed the story and think it will be a good read for younger children. My students are a little old to require but I'm not saying I won't share it. It is a good lesson for all.

I was given the opportunity to read this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
