Description
It was after the Queen’s father, Lucarian, had abruptly died that her mother fell deathly ill shortly thereafter. The Queen was a young child when it had happened. But now, years later, she has grown into a beautiful, pale woman. She holds a routine festival to pick a nightly companion, who often never returns to Calrisia from her Palace. Since her father’s death, the lands outside Calrisia have turned the trees to molten ash, the diverse wildlife into prowling beasts, and the grassy earth below cracked with a dry, molten touch of rock.
Many men’s fate will soon be intertwined with the Queen through her festival as she makes her nightly selection. Sparking a journey through molten lands holding mysterious lava and surviving the strange beasts awaiting outside her kingdom. Uncovering what old history had befallen the once lively nature laying outside Calrisia.

this was a great dystopian fantasy, it has what I wanted from an adult fairy tale. The characters were interesting and did what I was hoping would happen. It is a adult novel and it was really well done. Charles Arlington has a great writing style and I enjoyed the way he wrote his characters. It left me excited to read more from the author.

A fantasy novel that isn't the usual fantasy trope. The Queen picks a gentleman for the night and dark and sinister rumors proclaim that something bad happens to these men. Some are sent to the wastelands where their fate and survival is nil. Until one man is determined to change his outcome and chaos ensues. An eclectic erotic fantasy story with entertaining characters. An enjoyable story if you're looking for spice.
