Pettengill’s Fortune-Teller and Dream Book is an original occult compendium from 1860, comprising of fortune-telling by astrology, the zodiac, palmistry, the meaning of certain physical features on the body (such as moles), sibylline leaf questions and answers, signs from turning traditional playing cards, determining which days are lucky versus unlucky in a given month or year, and the interpretation of dreams. The author, a so-called “Peletiah Pettengill,” claims to be a professor of various occult subjects, such as astrology, geometry, and spiritual philosophy.
