Worried Whippet was just a lovely little book. I loved the various chapters, of Jess facing their fears about various obstacles, like seagulls, other dogs, and the beach. I loved the friendship between Jess and Buddy, it was beautiful. I think adults and children alike will like this tale. It's ok to be anxious, but you can still keep trying.
What a beautiful tale. How Buddy totally validates and acknowledges Jess' struggles and fears makes for a heartwarming lesson of life!
Cute and quick little read about a puppy named Jess who is anxious about the outside world. When Jess finds her first friend, she conquers her daily challenge of being less afraid of the world that's waiting for her.
This was simple and cute. I would find it very hard to find something wrong. I did think this was going to be a different kind of graphic novel but that was on me and doesn't reflect the book's quality overall.
I really enjoyed reading the book.
It's a simple story with great meaning, that surprised me in so few pages.
The main character deals with everyday things, stepping out of his comfort zone each time.
At the beginning we see anxiety and fear, latter we see friendship and evolution.
Is has a deeper meaning to it, and I think it will reach everyone's heart.
What a darling book. Beautifully illustrated and written about a dog who gets nervous and worried. There are a few different storylines which was unusual, but welcome. I loved Jess and watching her growth and confidence build was absolutely lovely. I think adults and children alike with love and empathize with this book. Everyone gets anxious, worried, or nervous and that's ok (sometimes you can confront those, with help from a friend, and sometimes you can have a stay in bed day).
Thank you for the ARC.
A wonderful book about growing up and battling through your fears. The drawings are cute for children. The main character is adorable in all his actions and expressions. Any animal lover of any group will appreciate this story and its lessons.
I just reviewed Worried Whippet by Jess Bolton. #WorriedWhippet #NetGalley
This was ADORABLE!! Wonderful!! Absolutely charming. I loved that the pup had so much relatable anxiety and ways of dealing with it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Celebrate for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!
5/5 stars
Worried Whippet is a beautiful illustrated story about a very nervous whippet. Whippets are such elegant and expressive dogs, I have 3, that Jess is the perfect main character. I love how there are so many talking points for teachable moments with children, so my preschooler loved this story, too. Worried Whippet will warm your heart!

- I wonder who my friends will be.
- The friends you start out with aren't always the ones you end up with, you get to choose.
- But who should i choose?
- whoever makes you feel good! and whoever gives the best hugs.

I received an ARC for this graphic novel via NetGalley, Thanks to The creative team, Harper Collins, And most of all thanks to Worried Whippet! For this opportunity.
This will come out 5th of September of 2023, I am making reminders on my phone calendar for all these ARCs btw, to remind everyone when they officially come out by sharing the review again, for the entire day!
This is a graphic novel of short stories, or rather scenes, from the life of Worried Whippet.

Someone needs to hire this dogo, as a dog Pajama model, if they didn't already!
I related to the description about the anxiety on NetGalley, so i applied for this, But when i got it and read the Goodreads description and found he has a Tiktok channel! i went and google worried whippet and i fell in love with him.

It's exhausting to always be so full of feelings, especially when they're so big and you're so small.

I recommend this to all dog lovers, all people who dealt with social anxiety, or are dealing with it now, it's so light a read, that it will lift your soul right up, you will relate to Jess the worried whippet, you will draw parallels between your anxiety and his, and you might glean some comforts from his journey, things that others might say more aggressively to you, or be said as advices in time you can't really see a way out, Jess is your friend, but be careful he sometimes gets confused between food and friends!

Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between friends and food.

Not everyone's gonna like you, just focus on the one's who do!

This was a dogilicious read (i just invented this word) It was crazy, how i kept relating to Jess, which makes me 99% sure i might be a worried whippet in my next life, But you know what! that's not a bad thing at all! He eats blue berries and makes friends with them! and he has awesome pajamas! No one asks him to not wear them outside too!
For me this was not written by a human, this was written by Jess the worried whippet, and i say that in the best intention ever, i would like if someone said that when i am writing the thoughts and adventures of my dog too!
Even though this tackles anxiety and social anxiety, i think kids will love it too, because what we see as an anxious dog and might relate with him, kids might see as a shy dog or something else and it would be funny.
Jess says Home is where your humans are, Or as Arabian Juha says, Home is where my wife is!
I will put up review at the day of the release, thanks!
What a cute and heartwarming book! Worried Whippet by Jess Bolton is a short and sweet read - exactly what I needed to make me feel all warm inside before a long week ahead.
I relate to this worried whippet so much. I cried reading the kindness and empathy other characters showed her--this is generally not the reaction in real life.
Worried Whippet is a sweet graphic novel about an anxious dog named Jess. During the stories, Jess meets new friends and tackles her anxiety in small ways. The stories are so heartwarming and really speak to others who may have anxiety.
I personally found that Jess related to my own dog, and I loved seeing how she was able to become braver with the help of her friend, Buddy.
"Worried Whippet: A Book of bravery" is a children's book centred around an anxious whippet named Jess. With its whimsical illustrations and endearing storyline, the book follows Jess as she overcomes her fears and ventures into the world.
A supersweet extended picturebook (is that a thing?) about an anxious dog called Jesse, slowly learning to accept other dogs and the world in general.
The illustrations are lovely, the story is nothing earthshattering, but it is everything nice.
This was such a cute book. As the owner of two whippets I was drawn to the title and the cover. The story is very sweet and tells the tale of a worried whippet who overcomes her fears with the help of her new friend buddy. I really enjoyed the illustrations, especially the ones where Jess is wearing her sweater!
Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book.
Sweet book that made me think about my dog that also has anxiety and is easily scared. The drawing style is nice with very cozy pictures, and the lessons are great for every age
This was such a sweet book about being brave when faced with social anxiety around a variety of scenarios. I loved the art style and think that having the story centered around the dog was wonderful.
Such a sweet collection of stories about a whippet who is learning how to become more courageous.
Really sweet way to talk about friendship, fear, and joy.
Also I love the artwork!!
This book was absolutely adorable. It shows a really good and accurate depiction of someone with anxiety learning to get out of their shell. As someone who hasn't quite gotten there yet, I felt very connected to the Mc, and I was really sad when their friend moved away. But they deal with this anxiety by making a new friend who needs help, and I think that's wonderful.
The beautiful illustrations of a dog named Jess perfectly capture “worried dog eyes” and, combined with charming text, provide inspiration to all of us on the struggle bus, The book contains words of encouragement to help Jess overcome fear-based problems like reluctance to trust, making incorrect snap judgements, lack of self-confidence, fear of monsters, and other anxieties. Adventures take him from small, isolated, retracted spaces, to lovely, open beaches full of potential for growth and joy. Jess has adventures that make him braver. From safe havens like Jess’s friendship with Buddy and his home base of consistent and loving human care, which includes well-timed treats, Jess learns to have empathy for others. He learns to question his limited interior world, full of wrong first impressions and scary imaginings, like one involving a hungry seagull who, in reality, isn’t going to attack him, but just wants a treat too. Jess learns to trust enough to invite others into his small world, which expands after first considering, then trusting, the perspective of others. His eyes look happier, his body more free, with each courageous step he makes. This delightful book will resonate with anyone looking for inspiration to be braver every day. I’m so glad to have read this - So cute and helpful!
Graphic novel told from the worried, shy dog's point of view. Encourages kids with the examples of the dog's simple acts of ordinary bravery. Also good as a way of empathizing with shy, nervous dogs or people. Good story and pictures.
I must say that i got intrude with this book. A narrative that depicts reality in its full capacity..
PRECISE AND INFORMATIVE
Although i am tempted to ask - "What is your source of inspiration to lay down a piece like this?"
I hope u pardon me for this inquisition but my curiosity got the best of me.
Adorable drawings. Great message. Very sweet story. Really cute picture book. Simple sentences, so easy quick read. No out of place paragraphs or anything. I like the character development of the main character.
As the owner of a sight hound, everything in this adorable graphic novel felt familiar. I didn’t know about this author’s social media presence before reading it but I was so thoroughly charmed by the book regardless.
'Worried Whippet' was the sweetest story, great for kids that love dogs! Thank you to the published and NetGalley for the advanced copy.
Thank you Netgalley and Harper Celebrate for an e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Even though Jess might be a small whippet, this felt so relatable and familiar, and you certainly don’t need to be a dog lover or even have one to appreciate the message. This story represents issues such as lack of self-confidence, anxiety and social fears, and it does so through the eyes of a little dog in a big world, so the image you get is the purest and simplest depiction of what’s it’s like to constantly worry about your surroundings. But as Buddy teaches: face your fears one at a time. Keep trying.
"It’s exhausting to always be so full of feelings"
The illustrations are adorable and heartwarming and give a sense a cozyness that fits the story really well. A quick and sweet read perfect for every age.
Thank you so much to Harper Collins & Net Galley for the e-ARC of this book!
I'm waiting until publication day to post the full review, but I loved this sweet story about a little dog with big worries!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for free access to this e-ARC for my honest opinion.
Such a wonderful book and delightful story!! Jess learns how to manage her anxiety as the short stories progress through the book. The illustrations are beautiful and do nothing but add the book. Would recommend this read for adults and children alike. Everyone can use the tools taught in this book (or knows of a loved one who could use support in this area). Much love!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and even checked Jess's Instagram after. While the text was clear on my copy, the pictures appeared blurry. I moved from the NetGalley shelf app to my Kindle, and the illustrations became fragmented (like scrambled square puzzle pieces). I missed the illustrations dearly, as they added much context to the story. I could also see the editor's notes throughout (suggestions about moving text, for instance). The story overall was adorable, Jess was so sweet, and I loved the plotline with Buddy. I feel like Jess's conversations with Buddy are good parent/child dialogue, as well as the dialogue we sometimes have with ourselves. "Your feelings are real, but I promise the monsters are not" made me tear up a little, and so did Jess making a new friend at the end. Overall, this was an endearing story for all ages.
I will put this forward for my library's collection development as a middle-grade novel.
This book caught my eye since one of my friends just bought a whippet. "Worried Whippet" is an illustrated book by Jess Bolton, marketed as a gift book. The illustrations by Anna Pirolli are fantastic: lovely, colorful and realistic, not "cartoony" at all. Through several chapters we follow Jess, a nervous whippet. Jess has a loving human family, but the big world is scary and challenging at every turn. Jess makes friends with various animals, learns to be braver and try new things, thanks to the support of friends and family. The book has a sweet message that really hits home if you are an anxious person (like me). I think children will love this book, especially those who are anxious and/or love dogs. There are some silly and funny moments to balance out the more difficult emotions. I don't know if I would gift it to someone with anxiety, however; that would feel presumptuous. But children as well as dog lovers will surely enjoy it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Celebrate for an advance review copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

With nice little illustrations you get to see a little dog, called Jess, deal with the everyday anxieties that a lot of people will come across in their life. It shows what anxious thoughts can feel like and how Jess learns to cope with them with the help of a friend. Overall a nice story that someone with anxiety can relate to even if theirs doesn't manifest in all the same ways. Who doesn't like a story with dogs?
