The Power of Empathy is a sweet storybook tool to teach young ones about empathy, and to help them better understand their myriad emotions. Through the story, it portrays empathy as a superpower- which it could be argued, it very much is.

A delightful, beautifully rendered picturebook for children’s emotional development.

This was a cute book! I love books that teach kids about how they're feeling and that it's okay to feel a lot of different things. I think it might be a little hard for my toddler to understand yet, but this would be a perfect book for kids just starting preschool/kindergarten/etc. The pictures were also great at showing what was going on!

What a great story about empathy! I am planning to ask my students to grab one copy. It will help them to understand the concept in depth and in a fun way. Love it!

This book was great and explained empathy so well. The illustrations really brought this book to life. The book gave many examples of empathy and explained it very well for children to understand. This would be a wonderful book to add to your home of school library.

The Power of Empathy is a delightful little book that helps children to understand what empathy is, as well as why it is important enough to be a superpower that anyone would like to have!

Orbit, who is the storyteller visiting children in the park, gives some examples and asks questions that allow each child to provide their own thoughts on the matter, thereby enabling them to identify how they feel in response to various situations.

I particularly like how concepts such as being happy for others were broken down in a way that a young child would be able to grasp. Emotions such as anger, disappointment and sadness were also illustrated by discussing particular situations that every child will have experienced at one time or another.

The illustrations were very cute, and the open ended way that Orbit interacted with the children provides an example of how any adult could initiate a discussion like this with the children in their life. This is a really useful, well-written and nicely illustrated children's book.

Understanding that this is an ARC and not the completed work necessarily, I still have to mention that the text is all a jumble. Out of order, so that it is nearly unintelligible. I’m sure this will be fixed before it goes to print or is released as an ebook. At least I hope so.

That said, once I pieced it together, I could see that the book would be a good stepping stone for anyone who works with young children to get the, thinking about empathy, what it is and how to cultivate it. There are excellent examples from many different perspectives.

The illustrations are vivid, like animation, and do a good job of extrapolating on the text.

I read this book with my daughter and it was perfect! The book explains what empathy is in a way that was really easy for her to understand. The pictures are bright and colorful and add a lot to the story. I would recommend this for every elementary reader!

Such a fun book to teach kids about empathy. Definitely think it was explained in good ways for the younger ones who are just learning about the different emotions and how to describe them. And I love the illustrations! Some great representation in there.

"today I'm going to tell you about a superpower called EMPATHY". What an amazing way to start the book, offering the big word we want children to pull from this and relating it to a superpower (which it is).
The book illustrates a variety of settings and circumstances in which empathy can be found, seen, and felt. It shows how empathy is found through understanding, by putting yourself in someone elses shoes and feeling what they feel too. There are many situations described where the kids in the book identify with times they have empathized with their friends and families in a variety of emotional settings, whether their friends were happy or sad, angry and mad, how they came from a place of understanding and validation.
I really enoyed reading through this copy with my daughter, the book is overall illustrated very nicely, we liked the color pops of each page (although a handful of pages we thought the planet Earth character was a bit "creepy" looking). There were a lot of conversations surrounding emotions and emotion identification throughout the book which allowed for a good discussion at the end of the book.
This would be a good addition to an empathy and understanding unit of learning.

This would be a wonderful book to add to a home or school library to read on a regular basis to reinforce the power of empathy.

It was easy to read and the story was easy to follow along. There were several different examples given in language easy for children to understand and relate to.

Being a homeschool mother of 6 kids I really enjoyed this book! I highly recommend it for parents, homeschoolers, and to be read in the classroom as well. Even counselors can use this when they need to talk to kids about their feelings.

I love how it started off calling empathy a superpower. Being a mother myself, I felt classifying it has a superpower instead focusing solely on it being just a feeling allows children to want to show their superpowers to the world.

My kids and I really enjoyed the beautiful illustrations of the book. With the book giving many examples on the definition on empathy in a way for kids to understand if from different perspectives and points was very smart. I felt like my youngest with him being 5 years old, he was easily able to understand what it means while my older kids did as well.

It didn’t focus on the bad things but how empathy can be about happy times too. When the kids in the book listed all the different feelings. I was able to ask my kids if they felt that way too. It made the experience not only reading together as a family but turned it into a discussion too.

I loved this book! As a teacher of early elementary students, I found this book to be engaging and just the right length for students. I love how inclusive the kids were in the pictures. It made for an easy read to explain why being empathetic is so important. What a great superpower for all kids to have!

Empathy is such a hard phrase to learn the meaning of but this book is written in a way that helps youngsters begin to understand. It is quite wordy so we had to read it a couple of times to start to begin to understand the topic but the examples given were great for children to be able to relate to.

As a teacher, librarian and mom I am always looking for books that help kids understand and navigate their emotions. I want to have this book a the school and my home. The book helps kids learn to manage new and unfamiliar feelings. When we know why we feel the way we do it’s easier to guide those feelings into the best possible responses. The books illustrations and words help kids grasp the concept and relate to it.

The Power of Empathy is one in a series by Ruth Mailke, that helps children understand their emotions and feelings. In this book, Orbit, a friendly orb who looks like the earth from far away, is teaching his friends about empathy. This “superpower” is a bit more difficult than understanding the traits of kindness and positivity as in previous books.

Orbit, is the storyteller and is visiting children in the park. He offers some examples and asks questions that allow each child to provide their own thoughts on the subject of empathy. He puts it into a practical perspective by detailing scenarios enabling them to identify how they feel in response to various situations.

The author did a good job of making the term understandable in a wide variety of situations. I particularly liked the example of a child telling a friend about her trip to the zoo, where the other child responds that he was happy his friend got to go and that they had fun. This is an area where some children naturally may feel envious instead of empathetic.

The illustrations were very cute, (especially with the two bandaids on his head) and Orbit has a friendly face. This is a really useful, well-written picture book that can be used a a tool to help children and hopefully adults to practice empathy.

I don’t see young readers reaching for this book, but as I said it is a a wonderful tool for character education.

I really enjoyed this children's book about empathy, I think it's so important for kids to have access to stories like this one where they are encouraged to show their emotions. It touched on a wide range of regular emotions for children and adults alike and the characters were very inclusive which I really enjoyed aswell! I think this book would be good for children aged 4yrs + , some of the wording used is a little advance for anyone younger I believe, but this is a perfect book that can be introduced in both a classroom or at home! Fantastic! I really enjoyed the illustrations also ☺️

The fascinating story's diverse array of characters and clear explanations of empathy inspire children to help their friends through challenging times and to be nice and sensitive toward others. The illustrations greatly enhance the story and are colorful and vibrant.

Orbit the globe is on another adventure showing children how to show empathy. It is important to understand your own emotions before you can help others with theirs. In a school like setting, with many different emotions, and children, you and your child can together discuss in a fun way about our emotions and what to do when emotions come rolling in. I found the story well thought out and the illustrations friendly and inviting. Highly recommend.

What an amazing book!! May middle son, age 6, has emotional regulation issues and we use the spot emotion books but this will be another addition. Fantastic book filled with inclusive characters, vibrant colors and a very good lesson.

This book is so great to introduce and teach kids about empathy and their emotions. This would be so great to use in the classroom and help with students and their social emotional learning. I love the diverse characters too which is so important to show in books, so all kids can see themselves in books. I love the different vocabulary words it introduced and explained which is a perfect to have more discussions with kid(s). Excellent book for any classroom library and any home library!

Orbit is an active visual representation of earth. He lets the children know that Empathy is a superpower which they already have and can use to help others. Orbit also helps them to see and understand their own emotions.
The illustrations by Remesh Ram are delightful, fun, imaginative, and colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or teacher or your public library!

The Power of Empathy teaches that it is okay to have feelings and what you should be feeling. Kids don't understand feelings a lot of the time and this book helps show them what these are and that it is okay. I highly recommend this book to parents, babysitters and even teachers. A great topic and so import for young kids. Glad to have authors bringing books like this into the world with diverse characters and thoughtfulness.

Always a supporter of children's books that help young readers understand more complex emotions. Empathy is such an important emotion to understand especially in the world that they are living and growing up in.

With the amazing and fun illustrations and the easy-to-understand concepts this is a great book for home, school and especially school counselors!

My nine-year old and I really enjoyed The Power of Empathy!!

Orbit is a storyteller who looks like a walking world globe. He visits the children in a park and tells them about a superpower called EMPATHY. The children learn that empathy means understanding and also caring about how someone else is feeling.

The children also learn why it is important to talk about our emotions. There are both happy and unhappy emotions.

Before leaving, Orbit reminds the children to be the friend they've always wanted.

My Thoughts
This book is a wonderful story to teach children about empathy. I like the way the characters are a diverse group of different races, nationalities, and children with physical disabilities.

The illustrations are beautiful and add value to the text.

Empathy is not something that comes naturally to everyone. However, it is a skill that can be developed and improved over time. By practicing empathy, we can improve our emotional intelligence and build more meaningful relationships with others.

Recommended for children of all ages.

Great story explaining and giving examples of empathy and how it can mean any emotion we feel. This cute story explores what empathy is and how many different ways we can show it. Showing kids how to share their emotions and help understand each other. This is good for home and I think it will be great for classroom. Worth sharing to your littles.

Very cute and poignant book! It hits really close to home with empathy. I have a grandchild with a disability so this is a great book to help other kids understand how to have a little empathy for those around us. And know it’s ok that we all don’t feel the same way but we can feel kindness towards one another. The illustrations in this book are great as well. What a wonderful teaching book with a fun element to it.
